Wow, this S3K sounds a lot like an older K3LR3! Normally the 37 bells on these things are really flat, giving most S3Ks a rather scratchy sound, but this one sounds like its actually 370 Hz. Definitely a great find!

You should see about putting the 37 bell from this horn on your ATSF Leslie RS3K, as that one has 31 and 48 bells that are more similar to that of a K horn. (Also have the 48 face forward). I'm sure it will be really cool to hear!

As mentioned in another comment I love the chug your dodge 2500's engine makes. Almost resembles an MP15 in a way haha. Great Horn

It's always nice to know the heritage of a locomotive horn. Also it kind of sounds like a K3LA. Is that just me?

Pretty sure they played the same notes or very similar notes

No! S3K use bells 31(D#4), 37(F#4), 48(A#4) K3LA/K3HA bell numbers : 1(D#4), 2(F#4), 4A(B4) K3L/K3H bell numbers : 1(D#4), 2(F#4), 3(A#4) (L for low profile manifold, H for high profile manifold, A for American tuned, without letter A mean Canadian tuned horn). They are similar since only the 3rd bell that slightly different (A# to B is half step). As a result, the interval between 2nd and 3rd bell is perfect 4th in American tuned horn, making it sound higher in overall pich and happier sound. On Canadian tuned horn, would making it sound mellower and haunted. I hope this helps.

@@rahmanaridho oh haha sorry. I must've been thinking of something else then lol

@@MidwesternRailfan I mean, you're not completely wrong here. And you already guessed correctly that they play similar note. Which is impressive. Not everyone can distinguish the difference between similar sound. And indeed, it is. Because two of three bells are basically playing the same note. They are just one note different on the 3rd bell. So... good guess 👍

@@rahmanaridho 48 (Which is for 480 Hz I assume) is also halfway between a true A# and B, in which some raised letter 4As are close to this frequency, but a few cents sharper.

Is it true that the S3K was made to comply with Canadian laws requiring freight train horns to play minor chords (like the K3L)?

Your new horn truck has a bit of a rumble to it, kinda like the diesel locomotives these horns were fitted to.
