Great Pyramid: Evidence for a Secret Burial Chamber Beneath the Queen's Chamber | Ancient Architects

After watching footage from the recent lecture by Zahi Hawass, I had to try and understand why he believes there is something hidden below the Queen’s Chamber of the Great Pyramid.
This chamber has always been the most fascinating for me but I wanted to know why Dr. Hawass believes something unconventional - why he believes the King's Chamber was not the burial chamber of King Khufu.
I believe Hawass must take seriously the work of Gilles Dormion, because inside his 2004 book, ‘La Chambre de Cheops’, Dormion details a hypothesis, combining logic, physical observations, geophysics and a deep knowledge of pyramids and the Old Kingdom, to pinpoint the true burial chamber of the famous Old Kingdom king.
The hypothesis is fascinating and believable and although I only present a snapshot of the evidence in this video, you can see how Dormion formulates a very credible argument.
You can buy Dormion's book at:

OMG! In Anton Parks' book "Awakening the Phoenix" written in 2010, but recently published in English, Figures 38, and 44 show a an odd slab in the floor of the Queen's chamber of the Great Pyramid. He references Gilles Dormion, (from Chamber of Cheops, 2004), and shows a drawing of the slab (in the floor) having "about ten notches" on parallel sides, suggesting it was lifted multiple times, to, in his conjecture, reveal a staircase leading to other rooms which exist below that chamber. It would be so wild if this ended up being the case! Super interesting that I was reading this section of the book, and then saw your video, Matt!

I keep seeing Zahi Hawass on the telly and various programs about the pyramids, he has been responsible for holding up much research, years back when they discovered the "void" a plan was proposed to drill a small hole and use a probe to see if there was a void in the area, Zahi Hawass was dead against it, he was very much the face of anything to do with the pyramids, another void was suggested near to the Sphinx paws, again Zahi dismissed this and stopped any investigation at the time, only recently has the tunnels been openly discussed, but as far as I know not fully investigated. Many secrets may still await discovery, but it makes no sense to stop and refuse any investigations, while they have run power cables in trunking, added gates and grills, drilling loads of holes and making fixings, all the while denying any real investigation into the many mysteries. I used to read about the Pyramids while at school, I am old now, and we still know so little. People like Zahi Hawass have held back progress and spent years grandstanding and glorifying their "discoveries" somehow we seem to progress at a snails pace and are none the wiser.

@@AncientArchitects There is also an other tunnel to be explored. How did the sarcophagus get in the kings chamber? On its right hand side there is a block that is not load bearing and perfectly fits the shape of the sarcophagus. The only way to get it in if not during construction, has to be trough that block/tunnel.

@@Taz6688 well said. Decades pass with no investigations at all in the great pyramid. The block adjacent to the sarcophagus should be drilled and an endoscopic camera put through, but as you say, no one is interested. These people call themselves archaeologists? You would think they would want to find out as much as possible of the pyramids secrets before they die of old age, but it seems bizarre but they really do seem very happy to die in ignorance, never having discovered anything else there, and the prize would be the greatest find in human history. Would be practically inaccessible to navigate for humans without the hand rails and steps we’ve added today, and ventilation. Those are maintenance shafts. As big as they need to be to serve a function. And that’s certainly not having a massive precession of people carrying a coffin and torches and everything else, cramming through these tight squeezes and steep inclines. And its not impossible to navigate, but you can tell that wasn’t the main purpose. Its like an escape hatch in an elevator. Its a door, and it works as a door, but it wasn’t meant to be actively used as one unless an emergency occurred.

A few thoughts and wild theories: - If Kufu is really hidden inside the pyramid, salt might have gotten into that section as well. - That tunnel could have been used during construction or later on for a rope to drop a stone into place - The tunnel could have been purely for moving things like sand or water during construction

@@karsteineriksen1036 it's you that is making the extraordinary claims. There is a clear evolution of burial monuments etc. Starting off with a single mustaba, which were definately tombs, They evolved into the step pyramid of Josah, which was multiple mustabas stacked on top of each other. Then that evolved into the first smooth sided pyramid (the red pyramid). They are all tombs and as far as i'm aware they all had temples/shrines right next to them which were dedicated to the pharaoh in the tomb and thats where offerings would be taken and prayers said to the dead pharaoh in the pyramid/tomb. As for not finding a mummy inside. They are over 4000 years old and have probably all been plundered like nearly every other tomb (some were robbed by order of later pharoahs who had hit hard times). I do believe one pyramid had some mummy remains still in it, but im not sure which one. If they're not tombs then why is there sarcophagi in them? and why the need for such security measures such as granite plugging stones? what's your theory on what they are? could you provide any evidence like i have pointed out? or is it just a hunch after watching ancient aliens?

Seems to me, after watching a lot of material, that at least the rough picture is something like this: 1. The pyramid is a burial site, constructed during several decades. Because of this, several backup plans existed, covering premature death (underground burial), structural failure, deception,... 2. The logical picture seems to be that the burial proceeded through the now obstructed main entrance upwards to the king's chamber. There is ample evidence of this passage, from outside stones indicating entrance, through voids discovered by muon scanning to the inside removable block behind the sarcophagus. 3. After the official burial (or even during itself), the second, secret transfer took place. They took the body secretly out of the sarchopagus, then passed it out of the king's chamber through the opening that is now the main entrance to this chamber, down the grand gallery all the way to the queen's chamber, where the real tomb was. 4. All the passages to the queen's chamber were blocked off, thus sealing that chamber completely inside the pyramid. The king's chamber was still accesible via the main entrance, but the currently open hole was blocked via portcullis system and the final granite block. 5. Thinking from this (reverse) perspective, the portcullis, the heavy granite blocks in the ascending passage and the subtle masking of horizontal passage to the queen's chamber make much more sense. 6. Thus in the ancient times, two rooms were accesible: the underground chamber via a straight descending passage and the king's chamber via the now "lost" ascending passage. Queen's chamber would have been completely hidden (including the "ventilation" channels) whereas the decoy king's chamber would look like the real, but possibly plundered, burial place. The ventilation shafts in the king's chamber left open, since it was not necessary to hide them. Being conduits for the soul, they could be safely sealed off in the queen's chamber. But since the Pyramid was forcefully entered by blasting with dynamite, we now enjoy the "reverse" perspective of it as compared to the ancient times. I think the main problem was created when ancient entrance became obstructed (perhaps as a consequence of a cave-in because of an erthquake?) and then people started looking for alternate routes. Before that i suspect the deception worked as intended.
@YunaOnHome
@YunaOnHome Жыл бұрын
Thinking about the entrance at the junction of the bottom of the grand gallery and the descending passageway hidden behind the galleries plugging blocks is fascinating . If they could be lifted with some sort of hydraulics so not to damage them to see if there’s a horizontal entrance or door way it would be amazing. But what you said about the square filled in holes for ropes for blocking stones makes me imagine all them holes that are actually along the floor of the corbel roof section of the grand gallery could be a sign of a vast amount of blocking stones along that hypothetical horizontal passageway.
@neilstocker1752
@neilstocker1752 Жыл бұрын
If you look at the research done by History for Granite and your research is there an entrance to a tunnel beneath the queens chamber behind the 3 granite blocks in the descending passage which if you follow a straight horizontal line for the granite box goes straight through the well passage directly in line with the grotto in the well passage. Just an observation that my be worth further research.

A note for Mr Sibson: I think there may be another interpretation to Mr. Vyse's comment - perhaps his statement of 3-4 feet refers to the depth of sand and decayed stone in the cavity he found rather than the depth of the hole in total. The depth of the hole in total wouldbe the 3-4 feet of the cavity plus the depth of the limestone he chiseled through. This makes sense when you look at the photo of the workman in the hole. The hole comes up to the workman's shoulders. If the workman is 5'5" to 5'7" or so, and we add about an inch or so for shoes, the hole is about 5' deep in total. This would mean Mr Vyse encountered the cavity after chiseling through 1 to 2 feet of limestone. This seems reasonable.

Looking at Dormion's plan view of the Grotto on page 178 it also has a small excavation toward the east that may have some clue to any hidden passages on this level below the Queens chamber ?? Well, maybe but when you compare the riches of burial between the copper age and late bronze age you do see that late bronze age burials usually have a lot more fancy stuff so that isn't necessarily so. It would however be far more valuable from a scientific standpoint, we don't really know that much about Khufu and our only image we have of him is a tiny statue. We also don't have a royal mummy that old, just what that can tell us would be amazing. And yeah, there could certainly be a ton of gold down there (and I mean literary a ton of gold), Egypt certainly had gold at the time but we really don't know how much they had. Gold finds from the time is pretty rare all over the world but a lot of what was have been melted down during the ages. We don't really have anything to compare with. This is the holy grail of archaeology (unlike the holy grail that everything sadly points towards being made up in the 12th century), it would not just be the find of the century but the find of a millennium and I could see why Hawass want to be the one finding something like that.

I have to wonder if those holes have something to with lifting and maneuvering the blocks. To put them in so close to each other would require then to be lowered into place (it may even have been necessary to also raise the blocks so they could be worked for a final fitting). The holes would then need to be filled to prevent workers from tripping (and dropping their blocks) when walking on the surface of this blocks.

Does it fit with his idea of how the pyramid was constructed? I'm not saying there isn't a hidden passage and portcullis, I'm just saying maybe it served more than one purpose. Maybe it was also used in the building of the pyramid itself. IF the granite plugs were used to hide/prevent entry into this hidden chamber, very clever indeed!

nice video, as always... can the well shaft be connected with this hidden area ? what is called the "grotto"... i am always fascinated by this particular feature... this vertical shaft that connect the ascending and descending passages... and the fact that there is a "cave" in the middle, exactly at the level you are talking about.

I think it is the start of a new ramp going up. They have dug through the foundation, the blocks would be laid as they built it coming up, which would be why they slid out, and then then found general fill behind. Holes probably anchors for granite finish. Would need to check the thickness of the foundation depth, believe the gradient of the grand corridor is 1:2 so if it matches would be a good indicator. It’s normal practice even now, in older buildings, for surveyors to fill cracks and monitor. Love your work; if I’m right I want royalties!

Hmmm, interesting idea. I've been to the Great Pyramid twice (2011 and 2022) and both times access to the Queen's Chamber was blocked by way of a locked grill across the passage way. It was too dark to see what they are doing down there but they certainly don't want tourists in there at the moment 🤔

Chambers have already been found here. there's been some voids discovered in the corridor leading to the "queens chamber". And it turned out it's filled with Sand. It should be noted that this sand is 1 to 100 microns in size and is rounded and partially rounded quartz. It is only 99% pure and is known as "whispering sand" because of the sound it makes when trod upon. It is not available within 100 miles of Giza. The nearest known deposit is in the Sinai.

Great video by someone who is very passionate and knowledgeable on this subject. These undiscovered air shafts could be the reason for that old pyramid admission ticket discovered halfway up there! Somehow a vacuum may have occurred where this ticket was dropped. Is it possible this ticket was discarded in a small undiscovered gap (or discovered) like a stress crack which somehow connects to these shafts.

have they ever done a spectral analysis of the king or queens chambers to look for remnants of pigment from before when the salt expanded and ruined the plaster? At moments looking at footage from inside the pyramid you can almost see figures at certain oblique camera angles.

great video Matt, never heard of this before..but does the niche really make that much sense as a weight relieving 'chamber'. I mean the whole QC is an empty space, so no weight relieving structure needed there as it already has a roof. Only the one cubit lenght of the niche's mass?But I agree that the limestone floor is layed out in a special way as if later covered something.

The robber's tunnel in the queen's chamber also gives some additional evidence that rubble was used in the construction, as you can see after the first few meters, the regularly cut stone blocks end and they are just tunneling through mortared rubble.

Awesome video. In one of your previous videos you have believed that the Great pyramid was enlarged. It's possible that the first bottom burial chamber was already there and partially build pyramid it's also possible that multiple pharaohs have build on to it before he got to finish it that way there is more than plenty time to finish the pyramid and run Kingdom it would also explain carbon dating differences. I hope they do some exploring and effort to see if there is fort chamber in my lifetime

@lorenbecker8876

I'd expect drilling in the chamber would be easier than in the tunnel due to being able to get a longer bit into there. Drilling out the old holes should be pretty easy as limestone is pretty soft and the holes can't be any deeper than was possible in antiquity.

Great, well explained video ... thank you for your work to keep us informed on these things ... Taken all together, it seems logical the theory exposed by Dormion ... this is what we get after looking carefully, lengthy and calmly at the evidence, with our feet on the ground ... one feel a bit dumb looking at all these details because I think that if the public had access to good photographs of the Queen's Chamber maybe someone would have reached this conclusion before ... It is very unfortunate that Dormion's book has not been translated into English yet ... surely, if a secret chamber is found below the Queen's Chamber it will be published in English quickly! ... Keep doing the good work ... thank you very much ...

That is, if the chambers were meant as burial sights. I can’t comprehend that such structures without any markings are done for the purpose of just the significance of a major leader. Still a truthful possible discovery that may be hidden and should be excavated if the correct technology becomes available without creating inrepairable damage to the pyramids. The imaginary mind can think of interesting discoveries, but maybe this is it, and the true purpose is lost forever.

I've thought Jean-Pierre Houdin's theory (of adjacent circuitry of corridors and chambers) to be possible, but given the fact that there was damage to the load-bearing blocks above the King's chamber, maybe the King was indeed buried near the Queen's chamber instead. However, I wonder if the Queen's chamber is actually an antechamber, or if there would also be a yet undiscovered antechamber in addition to the burial chamber.

So, are we saying that everything we've seen so far is functional and for menials only. That there is another complex inside, which likely links the cavities suggested by this and the muon (so?) scan, which is the posh funerary aspect of the pyramid. That the post holes in the queen's chamber were used for the purposes of opening security doors below and once those doors were closed the equipment was uninstalled and the granite floor covered the evidence? If so, would this complex be accessed from the menial ascending corridor or would it be entirely separate with its own entrance e.g. Accessed from directly behind the funerary complex at the current ground level or above or below?

BCO - Burial Chamber Obsession ? While bodies may very have been buried in places of prominence (as they are today), I cannot accept the idea that the primary (or only) purpose was for that reason. The reason for this belief is in the multitude of complex unnecessary 'details' found everywhere through out the pyramid. Am I crazy for defending this position ?
