You should review the black lion bluey. It's based off Chris Lord-Algae's blue face 1176 and their preamps. Also check out the cranebourn adat 500 series rack and their preamps. All relatively cheap but I've heard good things.

Would you make a comparison between this outboard analog eq and the digital version on a channel strip of Mixbus 32c DAW? That would be great!

Holy s**t when you turned up that hi mid with the vocal! The video title should end to an exclamation mark instead of a question ;) Thanks for the video. I've been looking for a 500 series EQ and eventhough this is a bit over my budget, might be better to save up a little for premium instead of going for that cheaper middle ground that does their job but doesn't really drop your jaw like this one did!

Hi Colt, Very interesting and informative. It confirmed a question I wanted answered and you did. One of my goto DAW's is Harrison Mixbus32C.The EQ section is identical to the Great River piece. I listened critically and it sounds identical as well. I agree about the filters and mid highs up. I love the clarity and air up there. Pristine !!! I also agree with you regarding the lows and low mids. I either go to a plugin or outboard depending on tacks and the job needed. Aside from that Mixbus32C is a extremely great product and has exceptional flexibility. Worth checking out for sure. Another Nashville product... :>) Be Well and stay Safe.

I’ve been researching non stop. Tried the SSL, Neve, API, and honestly, can’t help my ears, but the Harrison is my favorite. They don’t have the same hype, prestige, and status that everyone gives the rest. Buuut I’m gonna have to trust my ears on this one. Definitely the smoothest and most open sounding filters imho. Curious what you think?

Thanks for watching and for the kind words! I actually recorded all these instruments myself as I produced the song. I recorded Drums at Lester Estelle’s place, Smith Curry did the Pedal Steel, and everything else I actually played myself. Steel had some reverb on it, everything else was tracked completely dry with no EQ. Vocals were recorded with a considerable amount of compression through my tube Tech, but no EQ.

It’s a truly beautiful song. I reckon it’d be good on hifi bass / kick and BGV, I really like crunchin things up. But then again Thriller does sound aggressive when it wants to. I had to go back and put a capital ‘T’ on Thriller, I just know Bruce would agree

Hey Colt, nice review! What is the reason for only boosting frequencies? I think the only cut you made was on the acoustic guitar...For another review, you can do your preamps, thx!
@ColtCapperrune
@ColtCapperrune 4 жыл бұрын
Javier Amado Thanks! Honestly it’s just how I mix. I don’t do a lot of cutting when I’m mixing. I find the units have more personality boosting then they do cutting. So I tried to split the difference between showing off the EQ in every way, and using it how I would normally use it while mixing. Thanks for watching!

How would you compare it to CAPI LC25/40?
@ColtCapperrune
@ColtCapperrune 4 жыл бұрын
Fitzleking the 32C is less aggressive in the highs in the mid‘s, but much less powerful in the lows in the low mids. Also the LC 25/40 sounds thicker just passing audio through it without adjusting anything. Hope that helps!

This is an older video so I'm not sure if you're checking comments here, but how do you feel this stacks up against an SSL611 500 series eq? I need a GREAT strong musical EQ strictly for tracking country/pop vocals. Think weight and push. That SSL has a mid range thing that makes those frequencies easy to listen to and pop in the mix...and It has tons of control so that's why I'm looking in that direction. But this has made me second guess it. Compression etc will effect the tone there anyway, but I want it as right as possible before going into the box. I'm tired of wasting bandwidth with frequencies I don't need. I heard the Neve Inductor and I wasn't so impressed. The top end was cool... airy Neve style..but the mid range wasn't that great and the low mids had that almost compressed velvety...dare I say muddy sound. This harrison EQ has a great top end.....but....do you think for trying to chill out digital harshness and make a vocal pop this would be the best idea? or do you have others you prefer? Thanks for your response.

Man, when you were running the snare through, you got some amazing sounds. I mean, that snare is a beast, and the original recording must have been done really well. It sounds like you really had to dial the snare back to get it to fit in the mix. Amazing tones. What kind of snare, pre, chain, was used for the original snare recording? Keep doing this, dude. You are pertinent

Colt - Not sure if you've tried it or not, but how do you feel this compares to the UAD Harrison 32C EQ Plugin? Same low end issue? Curious if those highs you like are reproduced as taking it in the box would also solve the recall challenge.
