Fish'N the Arctic

Күн бұрын

Welcome to Great Slave Lake in the Northwest Territories. Today we are Ice Fishing for a Giant Lake Trout, in May on the Yellowknife side of the lake. It is May and Spring is in the air, the sun is back high in the sky and our days on Great Slave Lake are getting limited by the hour.
It doesn't take long, once the weather breaks, for the ice to crumble from the constant beating rays of the Arctic sun. With near 24hr of sunlight almost here, it's getting hard to sleep, knowing that I could be out fishing, in search of my next encounter with an Arctic Monster.
Today marks my 8th anniversary, since moving to Yellowknife, Northwest Territories, so it only seems fitting to post my first Vlog of 2020, that was filmed only a couple of weeks ago, on Great Slave Lake. I have been after a big Lake Trout, to call my own, ever since moving here and having the opportunity to put these magnificent fish into the arms of other anglers has been special, but there is something to be said of holding your own Giant Fish, knowing the hard work and dedication that went into putting the odds in your favour.
If your looking for a fishing trip of a life time from the Northwest Territories, check out spectacularnwt...

Very nice Trout! Next time try and keep a little more calm and measure your fish correctly. You should've laid it top of the tape measure, closed the mouth and then you squeeze the tail and swipe it side to side to see the final length. The way you measured it, you shorted yourself about 2". That was a 42" fish not a 40". Great job on a small rod and reel, b/c it was fun to watch. It makes me want to make the trip.

Thank you, glad you enjoyed my video. I was sure excited that day, first time filming solo and that happened. Lol. I have since invested in a good oversized bump board, so I can get a more accurate measurement next time. Visited that spot on the weekend and got skunked. Too early I guess, seems to be a late ice spot when things heat up. Try again in April or May hopefully. 🍻

Does your otter hut keep you dry in the rain? I have a large cabelas one I camp with in northern Ontario. Works great until it rains or snows a bunch, water just soaks through. Great video by the way, wish I could keep the sleds out until may!

slowspeedchase77 My tent leaks when it rains. I might try waterproofing it later in the year, for spring fishing. Once the -40C weather has passed. No issues with snow, so far. Amazing hut and tones of room. It sure is nice to sled in May, although getting on the lake can be tricky.

What is an "ink canoe" in the begging of the video when you were talking about the grand slam

Inconnu are a predatory Whitefish species found in the Arctic. They can grow upto 60lbs and will eat anything in sight. They closely resemble a Tarpon. Often reference to as Arctic Tarpon, Shefish or Coney. I have a episode I am working on full of fishing for big Inconnu, but it will be a bit before it is out on You Tube. Has to air on TV first in the new year.

We boated up past it another 100+km and it was game on! I haven’t been on the ice out there yet. Too cold and dark, waiting for March to travel.
