I own a silver 2003 FJR myself and love the versatility of bags or no bags (in a snap) and the extra trunk box too which comes off just as east. As you said, GOBS of torque!! Just roll that throttle baby! The adjustable wing screen is one of my fav items as well! It's a great all around bike but my ONLY complaint is mine lacks the 6th gear which the newer models received ! Great review and I feel like I learned a little more about it today. Don't forget that it has the adjustable ride lever as well. Great article!

Cool video. I'm on my 2nd FJR and love them. My current ride is a 2007 Gen 2 the same as yours and it's silver too but with blue stripes. I really love mine they are so reliable it's not funny which must be a reason so many police forces around the world use them. I've accidently hit the rev limiter in 2nd and 3rd gears reaching speeds of 160kph (100 mph) and 200kph (124 mph). So far my top speed is 230kph (143 mph) and I was still in 4th gear. I'd love to post a video with the speedo showing but I'm afraid of it being used as evidence. Keep up the good work

Picked up a 2013 last year, rode 2up through the Blue Ridge Mountains in fall and the bike performed flawlessly. You can feel a little extra weight on the rear shock but got rid of all of our chicken strips. The bike has gobs of torque. Setting the bike up for more long distance stuff this winter. I'm looking forward to putting many more miles on her.

Very cool… I still have a few things I need to finish up on this one. Put new for seals on, tires and replaced all fluids. I have a slight shake in the front at low speeds around 45mph… anything under or above that speed no shake. Maybe have to repack the steering bearing?

I just went and looked at one of these today. Older guy with a lot of different bikes and doesn't ride the FJR any more. Said he'd make me a good deal, just make an offer. It has 53,000 miles, a bit dusty and dirty from sitting a long time but fired right up. Im thinking anything close to 3k would be a good deal? Last bike i had was a ZZR1200, this seems similar.

270 miles out of a tank sounds right for rides with a bit of spark to it. Riding conservatively, or at a constand 70 ish mph on a highway will get you way more than 300. I hear constant bragging about 330 or even higher, though on my personal 2009 1300A my best was just over 300, tapping into reserve fuel for last 20 miles or so. I did not want to be stranded, so I fueled up at the first opportunity after hitting reserve. So 330-ish miles sounds realistic to me.

@@AdventureTomek That is the thing exactly. FJR 1300 shows empty on the dashboard when there is "only" 1.5 gallons (5 liters) of fuel left in the tank. And that is a lot of juice, good enough for at least 50 miles of fooling around. Think of it as a "digital reserve". Many underestimate actual range of the FJR due to that inconsistency between the fuel gauge and spec sheet numbers of fuel capacity, thinking that 100 to 0 is the entire 6.6 gallon tank (25 liters), when in actuality it shows only 5.1 gallons and hides 1.5 gallons as reserve. PS. On the FJR forum, a user posted logs of his exact fuel expenditure over the last 51000 miles. His current average is about 48.5 mpg, but there were stretches over thousands of miles where he got almost 60 mpg averages. That brings real world theoretical range to about 370 miles for that particular rider.

Nice video - my only criticism is your qouted weight for the bike is way low - the FJR1300 has always been a very heavy bike at ~640 pounds. The far older FJ1200 weighed in at 575 pounds (I owned one) and your quoted weight is that + a tank bag for the day.

Question for everyone, I found 2 fjr 2012 with 3000 miles for $6800 needs tires and fluids replaced. The other is 2018 with 1800 miles from a dealer for $9340 out the door. I'm trying to stay on the low end to buy a WR250r. So besides the 6 speed and better cluster is the 2018 worth the 2500 difference? Both are non ES. Thank you for your time
