To do this correctly add 1 cup sugar and two thick slices of lemon to the water and simply boil the fish cut into inch cube slices until they rise to the top. You could then season and broil if you wanted but no need if done this way

The REAL poor man's lobster is its cousin the prawn. Saute large prawns in lobster bisque then broil them for a few minutes slathered in butter and then the lemon treatment and you'll laugh at everybody eating cod like it was lobster. Prawns have a similar texture and the oh-so-sweet goodness of lobster too! BTW, cod and large shrimp cost relatively the same per pound. Which will impress your friends more, cod poached in buttery sugar water or prawns sauteed in lobster bisque and broiled slathered in melted butter? My guess is the latter!

Bro your videos are so awesome, is the creole seasoning the same as”Old Bay”?
@COOKDontBeLazy
@COOKDontBeLazy 2 жыл бұрын
Definitely not the same thing! Creole seasoning is slightly spicy - not like Cayenne spicy but still on the spectrum of spicy. Regular Old Bay is nowhere near spicy.

COOK - Don't Be Lazy monkfish can be easily found in an Italian fishery. They are one of the UGLIEST fishes ever. But absolutely delicious. They are creatures of the deep. Like King crab. You'll love it
4 жыл бұрын
@@denisejones881 Cheap too, then again i'm near the ocean. I don't see it frozen anywhere. With cod or any other fish I sugar the water and add lemon juice to tighten the fish up. It'll never have the actual consistency of lobster but it sure does taste like it. Just like skate plugs taste AND feel like scallops, i'd like to try skate for a lobster substitute but I can't find whole skate.

Does it have to be fresh lemon? Would something like a bottle of lemon juice work
@COOKDontBeLazy
@COOKDontBeLazy 2 жыл бұрын
@@TheMrChaddles Would it work? Yes BUT - bottled lemon juice is not straight lemon juice. Primarily concentrated (which means water is added) and preservatives. A lemon is cheaper than the bottled juice but if thats what you got in stock, go for it!

Cod doesn't take long to cook so putting it in frozen helps with slowing down the process of over cooking, considering it's still got to go in the oven. Let me know how it turns out!
@bostonjackson9384
@bostonjackson9384 3 жыл бұрын
Yes, that's because this guy doesn't know what he is doing. Always thaw your fish first.... also, bring the water to a rolling hard boil before dropping the fish in. You want that fish to cook fast and furious, that's what firms it up so that it doesn't flake like this guys. You also want to add some acid to that pot of boiling water... like some vinegar or lemon juice. An acid will give the fish a little rubbery texture that more closely resembled lobster or crab.

I do all kinds of stuff with my toaster oven, but I will say this, when I cook a mini pizza in it, it will not melt the cheese like my actual oven will. Possibly bc it’s a convection oven, 🤷🏼‍♂️, but at full blast (450°) no matter how long I leave it, the cheese is not actually melted. *but that’s a cheap little frozen pizza. Im not putting anything fancy in it lol
