Jack Russell, the original singer of Great White, just passed away this month (R.I.P.) He had struggled w/ alcoholism and was in poor health. 'Once bitten twice shy' was a cover written & recorded by Ian Hunter (Mott the Hoople) that Great White covered in 1989 (They released the album 'Once bitten' in 1987... followed by 'Twice shy' in 1989. Great White were heavily influenced by early Led Zeppelin and even recorded an album of Zeppelin covers. Great White was formed in L.A. in 1977 by Jack Russell (vocals) and Mark Kendall (guitar)... and they were much bluesier than their glam rock peers in the L.A. scene... They were signed in 1984 and released their debut self-titled album w/ Lorne Black (bass) and Gary Holland (drums) but were not successful initially... They changed record labels and released 2nd album 'Shot in the dark' in 1986 w/ Audie Desbrow (drums) joining... Their cover of The Angels song 'Face the day' became a minor hit and the album was re-released by Capitol Records... 3rd album 'Once bitten' in 1987 became Great White's first platinum selling record w/ MTV hits - 'Rock me'... the ballad 'Save your love'...Michael Lardie (guitar/ keyboards) joined Great White full-time. "Twice shy" became a bigger hit in 1989 and they scored hits like "Once bitten twice shy'... the ballad 'The Angel Song' ... and the bluesy 'House of broken love'. 5th album 'Hooked' was released in 1991 w/ more blues and boogie rock sound and it sold gold... but the 90's grunge era affected sales of their 6th album 'Psycho city' in 1992... Capitol Records dropped the band. Great White carried on recording 'Sail Away' in 1993... 'Let it rock' in 1996... and "Can't get there from here" in 1999... but could not repeat their 80's success. Great White disbanded by 2001. In 2003, Jack Russell and Mark Kendall reformed Great White to tour but a fire at the Station nightclub in Rhode Island ignited by the band's pyro resulted in 100 deaths, including their touring guitarist Ty Longley... Russell and Kendall were devastated and were forced to end the band again. In 2007, Great White reformed w/ Russell, Kendall, Audie Desbrow and Michael Lardie... Scott Snyder (bass) joined by 2009 and they released 2 more albums - 'Back to the rhythm' (2007) and 'Rising' (2009) In 2010, singer Jack Russell's health issues stemming from alcohol abuse and he was ultimately fired from the band by 2011... Great White recorded 2 more albums w/ singer Terry Ilous ("Elation" in 2012 & 'Full Circle' in 2017) before Ilous was fired in 2018. Jack Russell formed Jack Russell's Great White in 2013 and announced his retirement just weeks before his death at age 63... (R.I.P.) Great White is currently touring w/ singer Brett Carlisle.

Thanks for their history. Let me add that Great White didn’t start off bluesy, until this “Once Bitten” album. I don’t have the first album, but I have the second, and I don’t recall any blues in it.
@sumonjamal16532 ай бұрын
@@nitro_001newman2 I have the 1st album... Great White was very much blues-based like Led Zeppelin's early albums. "Shot in the dark" has a lot of blues influences... even the cover 'Face the day'.

@sumonjamal16532 ай бұрын
@@SERGEANTROCKSHEADBANGERSBALL...and where did I say that Jack Russell died from alcohol abuse? Read, jimbo! He had been suffering from alcohol-related health issues for years... Russell died from MSA (multiple system atrophy) which is a slow deterioration of the brain and body and is a rare condition. Dementia is a condition that likely resulted as a result of the deterioration.

These lyrics are why so many high school guys wanted to be in a rock group.😏 Looking at the comments, I see the singer just passed this very week, apparently from the same horrifying brain disease that consumed Robin Williams. The reflexive "r.i.p." has never been more appropriate. You're free, brother. 😔🙏

Never was a fan of this song. It is stuck in 1st gear throughout. Never progresses much. The guitar solo is ok but really it is very pedestrian. And short. The song comes off as heavy hitting when in actuality it is a foul ball. But loved your reaction , Miss A-DOR-able . Keep on r'actin .

Only good thing about this is it put money in Ian Hunters pocket. I was going to say he did it better but that assumes there's anything good about this cover and there isn't. I've heard better bar bands.

Once again... Another non- hair band. This is ridiculous, just because the hair is long doesn't qualify them as hair bands. Most rock bands had long hair, by your measure they'd be hair bands.
