In fact, Momofuku Ando was actually born in Chiayi, Taiwan and grew up in Tainan, Taiwan. It was after the world war when Japan lost its territory and colony (Taiwan) that many people were forced to choose their nationalities between the Republic of China and Japan. Ando chose the former in order to keep his ancestral properties in Taiwan (since all Japanese nationals had to forfeit their properties in Taiwan). However, Ando remained in Japan. It was not until 1966 that he gained Japanese nationality by adopting his wife's Japanese family name, Ando. As a Taiwanese, I'm very grateful for what this Taiwanese-Japanese has contributed to the world and created instant noodles for us to enjoy when some of us are in need of food or when some of us are trying to save more money...lol. He passed away at the age of 96 back in 2007. However, his legacy and creation is and will always be loved by all of us around the world!!! RIP

How bout some chips and kool aid ohhhh yeaaahh
@RB747domme6 жыл бұрын
Although that last segment on the potato chip might well be true, there is another, interesting take on the potato chip.. In 1840, in the little town of Cleethorpes in the north of England, a family of fishermen used to set up a mobile wagon on the seafront selling fish and chips. The owner of the wagon used to have a mechanical chipper in which he turned a handle to produce the chips ready to deep fry to go with the fish. On one particular day, he had set the blades rather too closely together, and ended up producing a whole load of what he considered to be a waste of potatoes. But rather than throw them away, he deep-fried them anyway, and the resultant crispy fried potato pieces, he found interesting. So he sprinkled some salt over them, packed them into paper bags and sold them to patrons to eat whilst sitting on the seafront. They promptly sold out. Prompting him to produce some more. Realising he was onto a good thing, he bought another chipper and opened a second wagon which sold nothing but these crispy snacks. A passing salesman, who would go on to start his own potato chip producing mini factory turned them into a popular resort snack across the North east coast of England. He was swiftly brought out by another, and that is where the legend, and the history, dies as far as documentation is concerned. This story can be found in a diary in a little museum of bric-a-brac in Cleethorpes. Where it goes from there, is not exactly known, but by 1860, there were over 200 companies in the UK making ready salted crisps. This had grown to over 800 by the late 19th Century - throughout the entire UK. Whether this fishing family got any recognition from the production factories that would go on to produce them, is not exactly known or recorded, but it would be a shame if this not the case. As for the Invention of the potato chip, in commercial circles, the Saratoga incident, is the only one officially recorded - so it's the only one that we can go by. Tasty treat tho. And rather addictive if I do say so myself. While I'm at it, what is everyone's favourite flavour potato chip? Let me know in your replies!

I don't know if you typed all this but I think you're good at telling (or writing) stories, lol (although maybe using a few too many commas?) I usually end up liking the Sour Cream & Onions flavour of most chips I've tried. The only tomato one I favour is Toki (a Japanese brand I think, but is readily available here in Malaysia). Possibly the best one I've had was "Perfecto" Sour Cream & Chives, with actual herbs (I think) on the chips. It's honestly one of the only snacks I've felt addicted to in over 10 years (not sure if a good or bad sign :/)

Momofuku Ando was a Taiwanese born in the Japanese era, after the end of WW2, he already had a career in Japan, and at the time, Taiwan was handed over to the US and China, and all the company that was located in Taiwan has to leave so the Chinese can take over whatever that they had. And it's also at the time that Ando invented instant noodles in Japan.
