That’s amazing. I’ve been practicing the Nunchucks since 12 years old and haven’t mastered two at the same time. Since I’ve watched your video I’m going to put forth more practice. I’m 55 years old now but very active in many things...mainly staying healthy. Thank you for your video.

Been using my sticks a lot, for the last 2 years or so. Been wanting to get back into nunchuck training since I feel like I've gone sloppy or Rusty. You always have the best content for practical nunchuck fighting. Yes some people say to grab it from the bottom, and yes sometimes I do in my practice but.. it's all about what you're trying to do, and what you're trying to practice.

Greatest Chinese Kung Fu Weapon: Nunchucks also called Nunchaku, Nunchuck, Numchucks, or Er Jie Gun. These double sectional sticks are responsible for me falling in love with the Martial Arts. I thought when I was a child that the Nunchucks were the greatest of all Kung Fu weapons! It's funny to me that people think the Er Jie Gun or Nunchucks are Japanese! They have been found used in China as farming tools for more than 1000 years! Bruce Lee made the Nunchuck famous in USA!

"To clear your head and kinda have some fun." Just like that, you said it so easily, so simply. I've got a co-op back yard and barely any space in my home, so it never feels like there's a good place to practice. Despite that tension or anxiety of looking like "A punk with a weapon" or " trying to be cool" just letting go and feeling the weight and rhythm of the nunchuku wrap around you is relaxing, and somehow freeing :) I may have to get a second pair...I didn't realize one could be so flexible, if not just as flexible with two as with one

Nunchucks got me started too! I saw the movie "Sidekicks" when I was like five or six and started my kungfu journey when I was fourteen. The nunchuck Kata in that film is still one of my favorite scenes of all time!

I started taking Martial Arts classes when I was 10. We had to choose a primary weapon, the nunchucks were mine. I practiced for hours with my training (plastic) ones everyday. We only used real ones on demo days. Made it to red belt after a few years, and haven't picked up a pair in 25 years, so thanks for the trip down memory lane. I wonder if I still have the muscle memory to spin them again. I will say thought that my training came in immensely handy when I went to Army boot camp, and we trained in hand to hand combat.

I just wanted to say thank you for taking your time to make such a simple, clear tutorial on the basics of nunchucks. I'm doing a Magic Tree House book club at our local library for elementary-age kiddos. Book 5 is Night of the Ninjas. For the second year in a row, I've used techniques I learned from your video to show these kids basic moves with our paper towel roll nunchucks. Of course, we talk about the "art" of nunchucks as opposed to the self-defense/warrior use of the nunchucks. :)

One of the least used, least traditional Chinese weapons. hahahah Only so popular due to Bruce Lee and kung fu movies. This is funny. Cool video! I’m researching for a story I’m writing in which the protagonist uses nunchaku. I wasn’t sure if using two at once was a viable option in real combat but it certainly appears that it is after seeing your demonstration. Seems like it would make it all the more difficult for enemies to penetrate your zone of defense. Also it looks fun too! Anyway, thanks for sharing!

Hi Jake. In my day " I " was the fastest of the fast. I worked out with the steel set for power balance. One thing you should point out to the students is they need to customize their set so it makes it correctly around their body, and shoulder. Bigger people need more links in the connecting chain. They need to properly set the distance under the arm to the third position. Try working with the steel set for 20 minutes a day if you can. Basic formations like you are doing. To switch back to the light ones make you fast as hell. I miss those days. Now I'm old..... Master Poopy my sons call me now. When we work out I dress up like an old Shaolin just for effect. Both boys are weapons specialists now. Thanks for posting this it was fun to watch someone else get into this like I did. I started when I was 14.

Awesome instructional video! I trained using DIY pvc pipes when I was 8, but progressed to a chuck-baton (which was a wrong move as I was still young with small hands back then and it was pretty difficult doing the catches as the chuck-batons are pretty wide - 3cm diameter). Eventually, my Master gifted me with a replica of Bruce Lee's 'Dragon' Nunchaku which were weighted foam. My experience with nunchaku has left quite a few scars over the years due to bad catching with the chuck-baton which was also too long for a 12 year old to handle. Always start off with foam chucks =)

also im pretty sure rapier is too thin for nunchaku to warp around, but a spear is probably more realistic target
