Tatiana takes center stage in this video for new listeners but this song is from an album before the drummer here joined the band. They made this video to showcase Vlad. He is also the only member with an official musical background, he was trained as a classical pianist. There is a video of him playing Rachmaninov in a Sepultura t-shirt that is epic!

Ahh the duality of the piscean beautifully interpreted by Tatiana. She is self taught in her growling and uses the "false" vocal chords as well as her stomach muscles :)
@Greatmeasures
@Greatmeasures 10 ай бұрын
Very cool. Thanks!
@AtticsTV
@AtticsTV 10 ай бұрын
using her 'stomach muscles' is a bit of a wrong phrase on it. The muscles in her stomach do nothing. Her abs do nothing. What's being used is the diaphragm, which isn't anything special as the diaphragm is how you breath. When people say screaming comes from the diaphragm, all they mean is that it uses a strict control of air movement out of your lungs, which is true for all singing. For the most part, the actual scream itself is yes: false chords giving the distortion, and then pitch is then kind of reintroduced (not technically, but perceivably) but altering the tract length by using different mouth shapes.

I think Perennial is so underrated. The lyrics are especially beautiful because it’s an idea of the changing seasons being a….being, and entity or it’s own spirit and how that connects to youth/adolescence and the pursuit of truth, answers and the meaning of it all. The poetry with that one is strong.

The last half of this song is so insanely Opeth, from chord progression to bass to lyrics and vocals… the whole song is pure gold, but that last bit is just beyond. 🖤 I’m so glad they’re out there doing their bit for their countrymen by giving their art to the rest of us, hope I get the opportunity to contribute to that some day. Such a gift to metal. Ukrainian is really a beautiful language, it’s just a huge shame the only non-English music that reaches beyond the Slavic countries is Eurovision. Слава Україні 💛💙🤘🏻

Everyone loves Tati. She's a hottie. This song doesn't even showcase how tight Roman, Eugene, and Wlad are. Top notch musicians who can stand alone. Tati is just icing on the cake. Saw them live twice. Flawless performances, no mistakes, and their live sound is better than studio

Tati is an absolute BEAST of a performer and vocalist, her harsh vocals are not only unexpected but of the very highest quality for clarity and richness while she has this beautiful "innocent" clean sound. She can do this for an entire gig, night after night. I don't think she's super comfortable being a sex-symbol, but.... ANYWAY, I feel like the other musicians need a mention, because they are incredibly skilled and put-on a good show live too. And they write about meaninful stuff. My favourite current band I think.

I was never into this type of music until I found Jinjer! I always assumed it was a bunch of screaming to hide the lack of talent. And then I found Jinjer! I saw this video and had to research how this girl is able to produce the sound! There's a lot of discipline and practice. Her growls are produced by using her ventricular folds (false cords). If you have ever forced yourself to belch, you've used your ventricular folds. She isn't the only female who does this. But in my opinion she is the best!

Tati is a vocal Queen and Jinjer is a PHENOMENAL band! From a purely musical standpoint I think you might appreciate that the drummer (Vlad) is a classically trained pianist and taught himself the drums. Roman is the guitarist and a true master. Eugene is the bassist and is self-taught. Tati taught herself to growl when she was about 14 years old. The band is from the Donetsk region of Ukraine, so they've been displaced since Russia invaded in 2014. I hope you take the "Jinjer Journey" and react to many more. Tati is the main lyricist and is very poetic in her writing style, so I hope you take the time to read the lyrics. I've subscribed and hope you react to much more Jinjer! A great follow-up to this song is to see them performing live in concert, and Perennial Live at Wacken Open Air 2019.

I think of Jinjer as most similar to what Tool was like when they were still young and angry. The instrumentals are very much driven by the bass and drums and they have a tendency to try some unconventional things with timing. To see more of the band's skills showcased, I strongly recommend the song "Vortex".

Tracks to check out by them are, 'Perennial' live at Wacken Open Air Festival from 2019, 'Teacher Teacher' the official music video, 'Judgement (and Punishment)' Tatiana's One-Take Vocal version, 'On The Top' and 'Pit of Consciousness' both live in Kiev, 'Vortex' the official music video, and 'Home Back' the official music video, this is a personal track for the band as it's about the invasion of the the part of the Ukraine which they're from by Russian troops in 2015. There are plenty of other tracks by the band but these are good ones to start with.

@@Greatmeasures dude, for the last 3 years I've followed around 20 reaction channels (and keep following around half of them), some of them got huge, some didn't, some were huge after I found them. I don't want to break your temperance, but trust this random guy on the internet: you're the most charismatic reactors I've ever seen and I know for a fact you're going to get huge if you keep it like you've started. It's just a matter of finding out if it will happen steady and progressively or by viralization of one or various of your vids. It's not just that he's knowledgeable and classically trained, that's already there in some channels like The Charismatic Voice or The Daily Doug. It's not just that you're a nice compliment to each other's tastes and backgrounds, that's also in some channels out there. It's not just the fact that both of you together are already an interesting duo who I'd love to have for a half or an hour in my weekly podcast rotation, that's just the base. It's the charisma and down to Earth reality of your relationship and the relaxed, friendly comedy you create together, trolling and amusing each other with your very different personalities and your obviously long background together, the wit and the constant break of expectation regarding the "smart-fool" routines you both have (obviously just made to mess with each other, not for the channel: you show us your relationship, didn't create one for us, and that's what's gold because you're hilarious and amazing together -and probably on your own, too-). Your reactions look much more like when we get together to show videos to each other around some beers than like "I'm going to say something you're expecting to hear about the song you already like or hate", as happens with many other channels. Don't lose that and you'll become huge. Bad part is the only way to not lose it is to not try to not lose it. If you get conscious about it, you'll end up artificial, so... Dude, just keep being this laid back and having a good time and you'll make it.

Yes, we realized this wasn’t the best way to do it. We were working with what he had and hope to have this resolved the next time we do a video reaction. Thank you for the feedback. 🤘

Jinjer are brilliant - all four of them are at the peak of their craft. Another great band which combines progressive music with spectacular, but quite different, female vocals (performed by Courtney Swain) is Bent Knee. Have a listen to Being Human and Way Too Long. They also do a psychotic version of the classic, (You Are My) Sunshine.

Hey fellas, new subscriber here. Your question to your buddy "Guttural and melodic" immediately made me think of Opeth. Because I am a new subscriber I have yet to go see things you have or have not reacted to yet but in the spirit of Guttural and melodic I very highly suggest you check out some Opeth, especially earlier Opeth as their new stuff sadly does not have growling vocals anymore. There is a video here on KZbin of them playing at Red Rocks and the particular video I am referencing has two songs being played back to back and though they are two total opposite sides of the spectrum but give an amazing insight into how Opeth can float from the dark side to the light side without missing a beat and everything is so melodic. Melodic in both songs, one of which is almost completely growls and the other song has none. Look for "Opeth - Cusp Of Eternity / Heir Apparent (from "Garden Of The Titans")"

Growls don't have pitch, so it's hard to do a melody with them. But they do have frequency bands that are stronger than others, instead of being white noise, and skilled vocalists can make the growls go up and down in apparent frequency by moving those bands. Tatiana actually does it here, the very last phrase is "higher" than the ones before it.

She has mastered the false-fold scream, which is why she can switch back and forth so quickly.

She isn't bad, and she really does make it look effortless. She looks just like the girl in Bridge city Sinners (think metal, folk, swing band, and a big band for real. Complete with brass and banjos.

Another band ya'll should check out is Epica. Their lead singer Simone is a classically trained mezzo soprano. Mark one of their guitar players does the growling. They use backing tracks with choirs and orchestra on most (maybe all) of their songs. The band (2 guitars, bass, keyboards, drums) plays metal.

Thank you. That was worth the wait. I love that Judson noticed the “Toolishness” or whatever words he used. He’s one of the few to notice the influence. I can’t wait for your wife and him to force you to listen to the modern crap, oops, I meant pop music. I’ll be tortured but as long as others are tortured too, I’m ok with that.
