Beautiful piece. Another one that might be good to Judson's taste is Vermilion Pt.2. It would be nice to hear his opinion about that piece, before letting him listen and melting his brain to stuff like Disasterpiece, People = Sh*t or Duality 😂
@soulessshadow5356 Жыл бұрын
My only thing about doing Vermilion Pt. 2 would be to have him listen to Vermilion first in a longer form video where he listens to them back to back. Pt 1(Vermilion) and Pt 2. are very different but the same song at the same time. It would be cool to get his insight on how they shape up against each other. From the perspective of a drummer, it's very clear to me that Pt 2. is meant to be more deliberately played/sung a certain way to draw heavier on the lyrics of the song. Vermilion to me seems to focus more on Paul, Clown, and Joey more than Pt 2. which HEAVILY was focused on Corey' vocals and the lyrics.

Coreys song about a relationship (of his) gone wrong He initially thought it too 'soft' for Slipknot and was going to take it to his other band Stonesour, but was convinced by bassist Paul Grey to develop it for them Lyrically very dark, musically beautiful Tragically Paul died of an OD a year after the album came out - Corey does this song in his solo shows accoustic as a tribute to Paul, but the band still play it live - I saw them at Download 2023 in June and it was part of the set Slipknot is predominatley angry energetic metal, but as you will discover hopefully its got elements of rap, hip hop, rock, metal, thrash, punk and even the odd bit of pop music!
@joevk6274 Жыл бұрын
I know very few people who don't like Snuff. If not for the music, for the lyrics. Very deep and profound. Although Corey's solo acoustic performance is probably the best version. He was still dealing with the death of one of his band mates, Paul Gray, when he did it, and you could feel the emotion in his voice.

Yeah it's about a past relationship and from what I understand this was one of the last songs they recorded with Paul Gray and why he always dedicates it to him and has another personal meaning to him. There's a couple acoustic live versions that are incredible.

Listen to the acoustic version by Corey alone while touring with another one of his bands CMFT. Isaw a recent interview on a podcast. It's about the end of a six year relationship that toxic. He later dedicated it to one of the band members that passed who really liked the song, and was the reason it made it to the album.

So as 20+ Year slipknot fan, From what ive heard and seen was the song was about a past relationship but has multiple layers of meaning for Corey. This is the first song he wrote that made him feel like an actual member of slipknot. He wasn't really sure about it or even bringing it to the band. But he showed Paul (who passed away) and he really pushed corey and supported him to bring it to the band and get it done. So Not only is it about the past partner but it also has the feelings and emotions of the memories of his really good friend supporting him and pushing him to get it done. I may have missed a thing or two but im sure a fellow Maggot will add or correct me if i got something wrong.

As someone who grew up in a less than healthy home, I had an addiction of sorts to chaos, to my own unpredictable emotional Russian roulette of suffering, so even though I never got into hard drugs or anything, I had some tumultuous experiences with VERY toxic relationships, where I gaslit my own self into being both solely at fault and victim, and as a fellow individual with Bipolar and ADHD, I can more than empathize with that raw feeling of unfiltered, unprocessed, overwhelming emotion, even if not to the same extent.
@Greatmeasures Жыл бұрын
I can relate to being the victim and at fault so much. Sounds like you’re doing much better, simply based on your self awareness and where things needed to change. Stay strong, my friend.

The song was co-written with Paul Grey, and lyrically was about addiction ruining a relationship, as Corey was newly divorced, and Paul was having relationship issues with his wife, also centered around addiction. During the touring cycle for the album, Paul OD'd on a cocktail of prescription pain pills, Fentanyl, and Heroin. Due to the song being largely therapeutic for Corey and Paul being a brother in commiseration, who co-wrote the song and acted as his shoulder to lean on and earpiece to vent, it hit Corey especially hard. He hasn't performed the song live without crying since. When Paul died, I listened to the song on repeat and cried, too, so... no shade.

Oh man I'd LOVE to see his reaction to a band called Protest The Hero. They have a tendency to do long piano-solo intros and outros to their songs, as well as the sheer insanity of how they use their instruments. If you do decide to go for it at any point, I'd suggest C'Est La Vie, From The Sky, Hair-Trigger or Tilting Against Windmills. They're a bit out there but musically so bloody talented.

I don’t know the full answer to this, but I will find out. I know he’s a fan of Phish, The Grateful Dead, bands like that. He’s also a fan of grunge and 90’s alternative bands. He referenced Smashing Pumpkins in the South of Heaven video and he’s been in a few bands that would do covers from time to time. I think I remember him telling me they did a show one time where they covered an entire Radiohead album. I could be wrong about that though. As far as Slipknot goes, I think the extent of his knowledge is “the band that wears masks and screams”. Highly doubt he’s ever heard one of their songs. Definitely not voluntarily if he has. 😂 I’ll ask him. He knows a lot of band names, but there’s not much metal that he’s actually listened to.
