all comments already answered questions you may have had, so i would like to mention a serious pair of bands that need a reaction video. 1st let me say both are classically trained and based. one is world known and the other is unknown outside the metal world. the all time greatest show since pink floyd in the modern era is and will remain "Trans-Siberian Orchestra" they came from Savatage Gutter Ballet when they introduced an orchestra into the songs, that spurred on the idea of a christmas album which became a world known phenomenon ever since, but, on the album Night Castle, there is a long song worth every minute of your listening pleasure called "Epiphany" a wide variety of musical arrangements and many harkening back to classical roots. the duration of the song will also grant longer watch times, lol, especially if you pause more and break down a bit of what is going on in that section. the 2nd band i think deserves a serious reaction is "Powerwolf" some of their earlier stuff was heavy but also extremely classically influenced and very under rated because of it in the metal world. however, being a classical fan, i think you will find the production of it to be worth a bit deeper look into it, even their most recent stuff is still very deeply classical, or maybe a bit more theatrical to some. either way i think both of these bands will be something good for the ears and worth a shot to listen to. keep it up and enjoy the sounds

Orchestra parts are largely piped in through audio input, recorded in a studio by London philharmonic. If you want operatic, look up Nightwish's phantom of the Opera cover. There exists 3 versions with nightwish doing it (there is one with floor but no other nightwish people). One with Tarja ( the original), two with Floor ( one with Henk Poort, one with Marco). My suggestion is the fan made one with Marco (the now former bassist), as he is an awesome phantom.

Ok so Nightwish! Definetly check out Greatest show on earth live tampere and Nightwish Shoemaker. For Shoemaker i prefer the studio version. But honestly you cant go wrong with Nightwish. Every song is awesome and they do not miss. Floor is the third singer and by far the most talented. Tarja was the first and she was really good too but the middle one is not worth mentioning. I would honestly stick with the 2013+ material.

The big sound is courtesy of the London Philharmonic - the band plays in perfect sync with a backing track, which gives the impression that all of the music is coming from the stage. Floor Jansen does have classical training in a variety of vocal formats; opera is just one of the styles she can sing.

Hello Richard & Judson [ Great Measures ] ! Nightwish fan here, your musical quest summoned me. Welcome to the world of symphonic metal! And thank you for checking this legendary band! This live recording is from Wacken Open Air 2013, together with Floor Jansen [pronounced Yansen], the 3rd and present female singer of the band, in front of an 82K audience. About the instrumental and vocal added parts - it's good to know they recorded their orchestral and vocal back tracks with prestigious institutions as London Philharmonic Orchestra. London's The Metro Voices choir group and London's Young Musicians Children's Choir as their regular partners. Since this is your first Nightwish reaction, it is my duty to give you the [updated] short history of the band concentrated by Ann Waychoff, one of the biggest Nightwish fan who has since passed away (and I am doing this in her memory): " Nightwish was started in 1996.They are considered a Symphonic Metal band, with a female main singer. They are from Finland. Tuomas Holopainen [pronounced Tuo-mas], the keyboard player, composes and writes the lyrics for 95% of their music. [Sami Vanska was the bassist of the band starting with their 2nd studio album, he was with them until 2001. Then Marco Hietala was bassist and vocals, since 2001 to 2020. He recently announced his retirement both from the band and the public life for the next year at least. Then in May 2021 Jukka Koskinen [pronounced Yukka] became the bassist of the band, for the Human :II: Nature tour - and recently, the band announced he became a permanent member] And there is the guitarist Emppu Vuorinen [he also recorded the bass lines for their 1st studio album]. Then there is Troy Donockley from UK who is a multi-instrumentalist and vocals. Jukka Nevalainen [pronounced Yukka] is the drummer. In 2015 due to Jukka's health issues Kai Hahto became the drummer and as of now is a permanent addition. Nightwish has had three singers. 1st one was Tarja Turunen [pronounced Tarr-ya] (Operatic vocals). She was with them until 2005. The 2nd one was Anette Olzon from Sweden (Poppy, strong vocals). She was with them until 2012.The 3rd and current singer is Floor Jansen, from Netherlands (power, operatic, soprano.....most versatile) - you just heard her. There are live concerts that you should use depending on what era. From Wishes to Eternity and End of an Era (Tarja), Montreux Festival live 2012 and Exit Festival (Anette), Live at Wacken 2013, Live at Wembley, Live at Tampere, Vehicle of Spirit, Decades live (Floor). I hope this helps. I want to welcome you to the Nightwish community. I hope you like them enough to continue the journey. Believe me Nightwish will surprise you with their songs. You will never know what to expect. They are unbelievable live. I want to warn you that Nightwish fans are hard core. Nightwish Shadow Unit from Estonia reporting in ! 6'1'' Dutch Valkyrie Goddess spotted ! Gabriel Bardac entered ! This is called Symphonic Metal !!! Floor her name is derived from the Roman Goddess of Spring, Flora. Floor Jansen is called the Valkyrie Goddess of Metal and Empathy. Floor Jansen is a soprano, with a range of more than 4 octaves (Eb2 to F6). She can sing from classical to belting and raspy vocals like screaming and death growls. And she's also a voice coach and teacher to boot. Plus, huge vocal nerd 😉. Floor Jansen was the singer of the Dutch metal band After Forever from 1997 to early 2009. From 1999 she studied at the Rockacademie in Tilburg, where she graduated in 2003. She studied musical theatre and a year of opera. In addition to her activities at After Forever, she gave singing lessons. She plays guitar, piano and flute. On May 5, 2010, she presented her new band ReVamp, which was disbanded in September 2016. From 1 October 2012 Jansen replaced Anette Olzon (Second singer of Nightwish after Tarja) as singer of Nightwish during the Imaginaerum World Tour (And she had to learn the setlist in 48h). On October 9, 2013, it was announced that she would be the group's regular new front singer. In 2015, Nightwish released the album Endless Forms Most Beautiful with Jansen as lead singer. Nightwish's second studio album with Jansen as front singer, Human. :II: Nature., was released in April 2020. And the master of this magic is: Our Metal Mozart Tuomas Holopainen (founder, leader, keyboardist, songwriter and the main composer for Nightwish) Tuomas the keyboardist writes about 95% of Nightwish songs, music and lyrics. He also composes the music for the backing track they use. It is recorded in London with musicians from The London Philharmonics. Pip Williams helps with the orchestration. There are two London based choirs too on the backing track, the other one is a children's choir. And of course with a synth you can do a lot. This was recorded at the 2013 Wacken (pronounced Vahken) Open Air festival in Germany in front of an audience of 82,000 people (one of the largest heavy metal festivals in the world and one of the largest open-air festivals in Germany). The fiery bull head is the symbol of the festival. We hope, that there is more coming. NWSU/FloorFan 🤘😎🤘.

Hello @@Greatmeasures ! If you like operatic stuff and you liked Nightwish, you will also love Epica! That's currently the peak of symphonic metal. Generally heavier than Nightwish, Epica also incorporate elements of death metal into symphonic metal. Their lead singer is gorgeous Simone Simons, a classically trained soprano. I would suggest to start with something not very heavy, not too long and more straightforward. Maybe later on try some of their more intricate compositions. EPICA - Unleashed (Live at the AFAS Live) please make sure it's exactly this performance as it's from 2023, so you can see what are they like today, and it's also super epic. It's a great audio-visual experience!

The orchestrated parts are backing track from the London Philharmonic and also some real choirs. You got it! Floor has both operatic & musical theater training. Tuomas (keys) is the main composer of the lyrics and music for Nightwish. 13th song in a 15 song set. the flaming bull's head is the logo for the Wacken Open Air festival.
@christomashofski9160 Жыл бұрын
The BIG sound you mentioned is the London Philharmonic Orchestra and the Metro Voices of London Choir. Yes, Floor (Fleur) is classically trained and she does do opera and just about every other genre in existence..... in eight different languages. This was song 13 in a 15-song set list. The "pipe organ" is a keyboard stand. He has several Korg synthesizer boards behind there. The pipes are modelled after a famous sculpture at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki, Finland. The flaming bull's head is the logo of the Wacken (Vokken) Festival and has nothing to do with the band itself. The keyboardist, Tuomas Holopainen (TWO-oh-moss HOLLOW-pine-nen) is the mastermind/founder and top boss man of the band. He writes essentially all of the music (with few exceptions) and orchestra scoring for the LPO, which they record for Nightwish in studio. It's obviously prohibitively expensive to haul a full, big name orchestra around on a world tour that touches 34 countries and well over a hundred venues. Yet the orchestral elements are indispensible from the music, so they solved this problem by using backing tracks for the full orchestra parts. He also writes the lyrics, which are not dumb, vapid lyrics like we Americans are accustomed to hearing. No, no, no. Tuomas writes world-class poetry which is never to be taken literally or straightforwardly. Metaphor upon deep metaphor is woven throughout everything, and you will not be able to immediately understand the deeper meanings. It takes quite a bit of introspection and piecing together of the story woven throughout much of their discography. Hope you guys enjoy the journey down this beautiful rabbit hole. Be on the lookout for a guy named Gabriel Bardac.... he's got the goods on all the best, curated links to the best performances. Cheers!

GLS is a good starting song. It introduces nicely the Nightwish formula (Longer than usual songs, Great blend of metal and orchestral music, sectioning of the song into movements), but it's not overwhelming. It's not as hard and heavy as many of their other songs, you don't need any background information to fully appreciate the piece (GSOE, TPaP) and it shows of nicely Floor's abilities. The song is also impressive enough to make people immediatelly crave more. And let's face it, we all get teary eyed on GLS, even if we like other songs more. Pair all that with Wacken 13, one of their best performances ever, and you have a guaranteed path to success. You could most likely find some other songs with similar qualities, but this suits really well as an intro into Nightwish.

Your raised eyebrows when Floor hit 'that note', and your goosebumps, said it all. Floor has been clasically trained, and did study opera for a couple of years, but she prefers to sing in a clasical style, rather than full opera. However, as you found out in this, she can sing in any style she wants, rock, pop, opera, classical and she can add grit at will, and even growl and scream (eg her early career with Revamp and After Forever). The pipes you mentioned around the keyboards are just for show. And you are absolutely correct about the keyboardist. He is Tuomas Holopainen, the genius who composes and arranges most of Nightwish's music. He has orchestral instruments synched in to his keys, but most of the orchestral music is a backing track of the London Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Pip Williams. Tuomas and Pip have been collaborating on Nightwish albums for years, and make a formidable team. Pip has gone on record stating that there is no one else currently in the music business who can do what Tuomas is doing, with his melding of metal and symphonic music. Praise indeed, from some one with Pip's record and accomplishments. In fact, a popular nickname for Tuomas is the Metal Mozart, and with good reason. The other musicians are Emppu on lead guitar, Marko on bass guitar and Jukka on drums. Marko has an amazing voice, too, as shown in his performance of Nightwish's tribute version of the Pink Floyd classic, High Hopes, which I recommend you check out; kzbin.info/www/bejne/oIm3nptum6iSiLM Marko has since left the band, due to health issues, and is much missed. Jukka had to stop drumming, also due to health issues (chronic insomnia), but is still with the band in an adminstrative capacity. One thing is for sure, if you keep heading down the Nightwish rabbit hole, there will be an army following you, and you will be amazed at the variety of Nightwish's music.

Enjoyed your reaction! Welcome to the glorious world of Symphonic Metal, the mash up of symphonic composition, orchestral instruments, and heavy metal. Floor started singing in her first metal band at age 16 and was one of the students in the first Dutch Rock Academy. After that she also studied classical singing for a year and two years of musical theater. She doesn't consider herself an opera singer although she has sung a few aria's (O Mio Babino Caro on a Dutch TV show and Vilja Lied on Beste Zangers) instead she is big vocal nerd who has studied multiple techniques so she has more tools with which to create the emotions of the song. She can sing almost anything from opera, classical, hard rock, metal, pop, and even Death Metal growls. She is Dutch, thus her hair flips are called windmills. The pipe organ thing is a keyboard stand that holds two of Tuomas's Korg keyboards. It is modeled after the Sibelius Monument in Helsinki, Finland. It is a memorial to Jean Sibelius, a famous Finnish classical composer who is a big inspiration to Tuomas. He is the main songwriter and composer of the band, which is mostly Finish except for Floor and Troy Donockley who is English and plays many instruments but is best known for playing the Uilleann Pipes (Irish bagpipes) and Irish whistles. He isn't on stage for this song. Most of the orchestral instruments and choir sounds are from pre recorded backing tracks although sometimes you can see Tuomas playing something like the strings on his keyboard. They work with famous orchestra's and choirs in London to get that full orchestral sound. Don't remember the exact orchestra and choir but when General Gabriel comes along he will provide that information. Song is 13 out 15 on the setlist. As a classical musician you might enjoy this analysis of Ghost Love Score by another composer where explains how Tuomas creates this epic masterpiece and that dramatic ending. kzbin.info/www/bejne/Y6LPZYxnZ92Vmc0si=w5Kj-7zrZLACQqGf.

They can not travel on tour with a full Symphony, so record with members of the London Symphony Orchestra and Two London Choirs. :) It's a combination of what Tuomas controls from his keys and the backing tracks depending on the song. Also, another unseen member Troy Donockley from the U.K. is the one who plays the flute, Uilleann Pipes (Irish Bagpipes), and a myriad of other instruments. Floor had a year of operatic training in the Netherlands when she was a teenager. There are videos of her singing O Mio Caro, and a German Operatic song Viljia Lied & Phantom of the Opera on the Dutch TV Show Beste Zangers. She & Epica singer Simone Simmons sing Stabat Mater Dolorosa as well which is glorious, and she has many other various styles on her KZbin channel done during lockdown to keep her voice in shape, as well as a new solo album - my favourite is Storm. 😊 p.s. the flaming bullhead is the Waken Festival symbol - its cattle country.

Hi guys, Nightwish Army UK reporting in That was a great reaction, thank you 😉 Tuomas (keyboards) composes most of their songs and lyrics, and he also composed the classical interlude that you liked so much Because it would be laborious to tour with an orchestra they approached The London Philharmonic Orchestra who recorded the composition, and that is played during performance on a backing track and also the keys I hope that you continue to explore more of their discography

Ghost Love Score was the 13th of 15 songs of the performance. They perform with a backing track composed by the Keyboard player and performed by the London Symphony Orchestra. In some of their songs they also use the London Metro Voices choir, and a Children's Choir. Tuomas Holopainen, the Keyboard player has written all but a few of their songs.

The classical dude got it right. The keyboard player Tuomas is the one who started the band and writes and composes almost all the songs. But he is not playing all those sounds from his keyboard, they are using a backing track. They have London Philharmonic Orchestra and a choir playing on the background. And it is just a normal keyboard, that "pipe organ" thing is just a prop for the show. The flaming bull head is Wacken Open Air festival symbol. Wacken is a small German countryside town known for a lot of cattle farming, so they use that as their logo. The flaming bull head is located between the two main stages of the festival, that's why it is on the side of the stage.

Great reaction guys. I have seen hundreds of first reactions to Nightwish via this song. You (the guy in the light shirt) are the first to pick up on the keyboard player being the driving force of the band. Well done. He is. Nightwish is his creation and he is the creative genius behind 95% of their songs. He himself has described the band as the "landscape of my soul". He is a gifted poet and composer and has been called the "Metal Mozart". The Nightwish catalogue is large and varied, ranging from heavy metal to celtic/folk. There are music videos for some of their songs which are very well done, but their live performances are where they shine the brightest. Welcome to your journey down the Nightwish rabbit hole. You will not be disappointed.

Just superb; I was wondering when you were going to review this song! Arguably the most reacted to song on KZbin. The 'flaming horns' is the official logo of the Wacken open air festival in Germany, and not Nightwish. Not being biased as I love heavy metal, but this band encapsulates everything great about music - the passion, technicality, showmanship and energy. They have it all. Floor Jansen is indeed their third vocalist, but imo their finest, most accomplished, and the most powerful with the greatest range. This performance in particular gives me goosebumps every single time I watch it. It's a perfect performance from a brilliant band.

Something that you should know about FLOOR JANSEN. She started singing in a symphonic metal band at just 16 years old. After Forever (1995-2009). Then she created a new Progressive Metal band, ReVamp (2009-2016). In 2018 she released a personal Hard Rock project (Northward). In 2012, she was invited by Nightwish to finish their world tour, after the band's second female singer (Annete Olzon) left. In 2013 she became Nightwish's full time lead Vocalist. She is a singing teacher. She sings in Dutch, German, English, Spanish, Finnish, Swedish, Italian and Latin. She sings Heavy Metal, Trash Metal, Pop, Rock, Symphonic Metal, Arya and Opera. She even sang rap. THE BEST SINGER TODAY IN THE WHOLE WORLD.

For more operatic pieces, I'd recommend their "version" of "Phantom of the Opera", especially the live performance from 2005 with the first singer, Tarja (though Floor singing it with *_the_* Dutch "Phantom", and Andrew Lloyd Webber's favourite, Henk Poort, is absolutely worth it, too) - and for something more recent, "Shoemaker" (no, it's not about a cobbler, but about Eugene Shoemaker, the only human so far whose remains are in part on another stellar body, namely the moon 🥹)

Floor's performance is amazing, especially the note at the end. But, for me, it's the drumming; the machine gunning at the end just resonates with my soul.

Tuomas is one of the single best storytellers in all of music today. Not a composer, but a storyteller. You don't just hear a Nightwish song, you experience it, go on a journey with it, let it uplift you or bring you down. And Floor's final note here was literally MONTHS in the making....trying different tactics and approaches to it for her to reach this point, and she has done it this was ever since. And still to this day, it makes the hair on the back of my neck rise, and brings me close to tears. And I was over elated to be able to tell her that in person when they came to Dallas in 2015. Sadly, this is one of the last times we gt to see Jukka on drums. He left the in the following years due to severe battles with insomnia, but their new drummer Kai Hahto is a beast in his own right. He plays everything Nightwish has, and makes it look effortless in the process!

I vould name st least 30 bangers. There's so many bangers! Nightwish is a hit machine it's crazy. Metallica used to be my favorite bsnd... The Nightwish hit my radar and floored me. My favorite band since a few years back now. I've known then for like 20+ years, but only like 3 years ago did I dive into their music. My father gave me a CD when I was little wgere it had like a 30 mn medley he had put together of parts from his favorite Nightwish songs. So I had heard of them I just never gave them a chance until recently when I got reminded of that CD. He died last year and on one of his hard drives i found that medley again since I didn't know what happened with that CD for the longest time... It felt unreal hearing it again.

There are a lot of music arrrangements as with that middle piece but also behind the rest of the song that are written by Tuomas (keyboard player) but recorded with an actual choir and orchestra in London. The pipes around his keyboards are simply a stage prop but a really cool one :) The last name of the singer Floor Jansen is pronounced Yahnsen. She's not an opera singer (Floor doesn't see herself as one) like Tarja (their first singer) is but she does have classical training in her musical education so she can sing opera stuff. The last few notes of the song were not in the original so she added those herself. The horned emblem is the festival emblem.

The keyboard stand (which doubles as a wine rack) is non functional from a sound perspective but was inspired by the Sibelius monument/memorial in Helsinki. Floor had some years training at Tilsburg conservatory, which included opera training. But she can sing any style you care to mention ( bit she doesn't do rap or country, though she can sing the Dutch phone book a capella and impromptu). Her name is pronounced Yahnsen.

Welcome to the army 🤩👌🎉 Even off-sync its one of the most epic live performances ever played at Wacken ❤ So for the band: The keyboardist, Tuomas, is one of two left original members of the band and Nightwish is HIS baby for sure - he's also the composer, songwriter and poet of the band. Floor actually is the third singer and is classically trained as well. By the time of the concert she wasn't a full-time member and was with the band for only a few months, but they made her a member shortly after 🙃 Back then, there still was a lot of commitment for their original singer, Tarja, as well (She's replaced 8 yrs prior by their second singer Anette, who's with the band until Floor came) and for a really long time the community was very split after they parted from her, bc it wasn't on good terms either, but I think Floor established herself in the band by now - even for them 😉 She's an insane vocal range (she even does the growling in "Yours is an empty hope") and a presence on stage only a very few have in the industry. As for the flute: when "Once" came out in 2004, its tracked, but they do have a full-time member named Troy for almost 10 yrs now, that plays all the whistles, flutes, various string instruments and even bagpipes. Hope, that helped 😁 Long story short: Buckle up and I hope to see more of them soon 🥰👍
