For me it has to be Klavdia - Asteromata. Would probably be my favourite Greek entry ever. I feel like we’re getting the Albanian NF again with Shkodra vs Elvana but now it’s Klavdia vs Evangelia in ethnic vs bop. No doubt fans will get on very well online 😂

I really don’t understand why so many Eurofans think they were “supposed” to like Evangelia’s song. Evangelia is not even that known in Greece, she is not a big star or anything.

Hello, Shane, hope you've been doing well. I've just been listening to the national final songs the last few days so I can now share my thoughts on some of them. One thing I found very interesting about this national final is, as someone who has often said about national finals that for me, I don't find it incredibly important for countries to send songs that sound like they're from their region because at the end of the day, once the quality is there, it should be fine, I actually found myself half way through this national final wanting to hear a song that sounded somewhat traditional or had traditional elements because I was very surprised by the lack of "Greek" sounding songs (admiteddly I didn't watch nf's when Greece last held theirs so I had nothing to go off of). This national final kind of reminded me off DMGP which is a national selection I don't usually love. My favorites in this selection are (in this order) Klavdia, Evangelina (which as someone who tends to like World cup sounding songs, this fits that bill), Dinamiss and Barbz. Out of the studio versions I feel like I'm gravitating more towards Klavdia because her song is pretty strong and has Greek elements which makes it stand out that bit more (again normally I'm not as bothered about these things). I think its a decent selection but I easily could've had roughly half the songs in it (and ik its not a massive nf) I just find the rest (not including the Greek sounding song, the more traditional one) to sound a bit filler like. But listen if we've learned anything in the past, you only need one good song staged well in a nf because only 1 will win.

It's normal that you don't like some songs. This happens because there is a lot of diversity. They even have selected some indie choices. As for the greek elements,we have 5 out of 12 songs with greek elements or influences. We can't ask for more. It's too much, we need to have more european sound songs 😅 Generally,i wish Klavdia wins because from this final i don't expect anything else. Last but not least,a national final is good if there is at least one good inside. And I think that we have it.

@Konstantinos20 I mean, there have been selections where I've liked almost every song (UMK last year). I think its a pretty decent selection and like we've both acknowledged, you only need the one quality entry in a selection. I'll be interested to see how the nf will be staged.

Hi Shane, Thanks for the review! 🥰 This is my top 5: 1. Klavida "Asteromata". This is a Beautiful song, nice voice, angelic and I like the instrumentation. 😇❤️ The rest do not reach the same quality for me, but I still appreciate certain attributes of them. 2. Kostas Ageris "Gi mon". Pretty nice melody and very interesting instrumentation, traditional Greek tones. 3. Christoforou & Karafotis "Paradeisos". Traditional tones and instruments. This music I associate with all my vacations in the country 😊. I like it, it feels familiar and nice. 4. Nafsika Gavrilaki "Unhurt me". Nice song, simple but nice. 5. Xannova Xan "Play it". I have exactly the same thoughts as you about this. There are powerful elements here, beat, rhythm, attitude, but the chorus is melodically monotonous/quite flat. Asteromáta ftw! Might as well give my top 12... Quelle surprise, the Greek language songs are all in my top 4: 1. Asteromáta 2. Vále 3. Gi mou 4. Parádeisos 5. Play it! 6. Odyssey (these two have switched as Play it has a better hook) 7. Sirens 8. Lost my way 9. Unhurt 10. Free love 11. High road 12. Elevator (Up and down) I honestly think that Greece could have left it at 8 and made an already amazing national final an even better one. Edit. Greece was ny winner of 2018. I still listen to it and I'm still not over it not qualifying. Mind you, I'm still not over Stop not qualifying in 2005 so there's that.

Great review as always my love, though you just broke my heart in a thousand pieces with your 5 for Andy ❤‍🩹. No, just kidding 😉, I personally fell in love with his voice, the song and I ADORE the lyrics 😍🥰. But yes, the end is abrupt and that annoys me too, and I am aware that it is not for Eurovision, it's only for my heart 😜💓. My favourites, and the ones that I think should represent Greece are the obvious two; Evangelia and Clavdia. I think those are the ones that are clearly made for it, and I really like both iqually, each for it's own reasons. Vale is the typical fun, cool song with the Greek touch that I LOVE, and Clavdia is the goosebumps and qualitywise magnifecent one. Nevertheless, Barbz, Dinamiss, Nafsika and Xannaova also made it to my playlist. By the way, Georgi uses the greatest sentence for those old-school ones like Paradisos, "NOT DATED, UPDATED", and I identify with that 😂.

@ Yeah, it seems so and though I don't think it's such an amazing masterpiece wower as people say, I do like it and her voice is superb, it gives me goosebumps. I wouldn't mind it to win but I think Vale might have more chances at Eurovision, I actually think Vale could win the whole thing if it's wel staged, performed, camara angles blabla. It has an amazing balance between modern, traditional etc. I am just not sure how she is vocally live, a little bird with a G told me she not the strongest live. About Sirens, I really like that one, or did you say this to Shane? Because I was also surprised he didn't like it more. Although I also hate the abrupt end.

My favourite was «Elevator (Up and Down)» by RIKKI! 😂🤩 I didn’t listen as thoroughly as you, but I listened to them all in one go. Found the selection in general quite boring and the songs similar to each other. I agree with you, I was expecting and hoping for more from Greece. So RIKKI just stood out as fun and energetic! 😍⭐️ My number two is «Asteromáta» by Klavdia and third «Vále» by Evangelia. I hope they all get elevated on stage.

Hi Shane, hope you’re well. So my favourite is Evangelia, I can just see big production and Euroclub going wild when it’s played. I need a melody, tune and don’t mind which language songs are sung in. I don’t need to understand what they’re singing to adore a song!! A reason why I would love all songs to be sung in the native language and not just English. I also love the “Shane Ward” song, as soon as I heard it I thought Scandi 🙄 “No Promises” is Danish written and also a cover. So we’ll see what happens. Have I missed your Finland Preview yet?? I keep trying to see if I can get onboard with Vale, but when a song puts crowd chats into its soundtrack, it just cheapens it for me. Crowd chants should be real during the live performance, not pre-recorded. A reminder of how important it is for song contests to use live backing vocals (like in the yesteryears) and not pre-recorded audio. I much prefer Odyssey and Play it!, and Karnival for that matter.

Vále and Asteromáta are only my 3rd and 4th, my favorite is Sirens with Odyssey in 2nd and Gi mou is my underrated 5th. The way Xannova Xan says "Play it" every single time really annoys me and Unhurt me is my last place 😅

Interestingly, in a televote only semi final, greece 2018 would have qualified in 10th place. Maybe that bodes well for if they pick Klavdia (which I hope they do)

First listen it feels like a very weak national final imo. Despite don’t liking Greece artist last season towards the end, Zari was one of my favourites songs to win and it was very traditional. None of this songs get even close to that quality sorry :/

Oh dear Shane I was so excited to hear Greece were returning to a national final format. However, I'm so disappointed with what they have come up with. I can't work up enthusiasm for any of these songs. No, none of them! If I had to select a winner it would be Klavdia. And it wouldn't even be close. This is quality...just not my quality if that doesn't sound conceited. I have a feeling that Greece will struggle to qualify no matter which they choose. Do any of these compare with Albania. Er..no! Sorry Greece. Athens or Thessaloniki will have to wait for another year. Such a shame 😭😭
