I really love your channel; my Dad was half Serbian/half Greek and both he and my mother loved cooking, except he made a big mess in the kitchen and we cleaned up after him. Minor details. Serbian food is a mixture of influences from Greece, the middle east, and even Vienna -- what we called Palachinkas are actually thin French crepes with the stuffing apricot compote and hazelnuts, very Serbski. This soup is also made in Serbia; called Chorba. It's not unusual to wisk an egg yolk and juice of half a lemon at the end, and the vegetables often are what one would find in ratatouille; eggplant courgettes tomato bell peppers. Love the parallels in these 2 cuisines! My dad has been gone for many years, had a long active life and definitely my hero. Wonderful to see his food prepared in masterful fashion here on really great channel. … Spanakopita is … how to spell it Gibanitza zilyanika; same thing. Dolmos; same thing. Seafood; same thing. Wonderful!!!

Why is everyone hating on the stock cube?? It just speeds up the process a bit. You can omit the cube and let the broth simmer for 2-3 hours if you'd like.

I think in several countries, Italy and Greece included, the real food is not in the big flashy restaurants but in people's homes where traditions are passed on. One yr later hope you had a great time! I spent several summers in Corfu growing up; fantastic.

My mom taught me a somewhat different way to make the egg lemon mixture. Separate the eggs, whip the white until frothy, then add the yolks, then the lemon juice.

Aha! This is nearly identical to what I call my "Spring/Summer Chicken Soup". I usually add celery and onions instead of leeks, but I love leeks. Will try that the next time. My "Fall/Winter" variation is with homemade egg noodles instead of rice. Also good.

I loved being able to find this. It gave me a base to make this soup. My mamma would always make it and it was so delicious. She passed away last year due to some medical surgery problems and all and I've been hoping to find at least a base so I could remember how she mad the soup. Thank you so much! ❤️ I plan to open a restaurant or catering business with my husband one day and make all those lovely homemade Greek dishes I grew up loving so much. :3
