Fascinating. Kushal, can you consider interviewing Slavic Orthodoxy expert some day? It can be interesting especially given recent events..

Interesting coincidence during time of the summer solstice, that word India was derived from Greek word Indica, which was derived from river Indus, which was derived from Vedic God Indra. Greeks also had their sun God Kronos.

Michel Danino in his book 'Indian Culture and India's Future' mentions about a group of Indian savants debating with Greeks. I don't remember the exact reference but it is there in his book. And also, Indians did travel the world.

20:57 There were no walls to make sure they don't seep in. Christianity at its roots, is heavily influenced by Greek philosophy and culture. The Gospel of John describes Christ as the "Logos". The New testament was written in Greek, even the word Christ from "Christos" is a Greek term. Dehellenization is a Protestant problem and this is why you'll see the Protestant Christians act the most Abrahamic

@ABHRA TALUKDER Im not presenting Christianity here. I'm presenting the history of Christianity from an academic angle. I said the Early Apostles had "experiences" of risen Jesus. Whether it's because Jesus rose or not, is a topic of faith, not history. But yes, most historians accept that they had experienced something, whether group hallucinations or not we don't know. Not a subject of history but Theology. Learn to read instead of putting words in my mouth.
@st.mephisto85642 жыл бұрын
@ABHRA TALUKDER You're probably 17 yr old judging from the way you talk. Grow up! No one asked you for your Opinion. Theology is not like Homeopathy, because homoeopathy claims to be medical science. Theology is not claiming to be science, it's a different subject altogether.

Speaking as a ethnic Greek with no non-Greeks in my heritage, I am as Greek as they come. Anthopoulos isn't completely wrong in what he says about Greek identity but he has a somewhat skewed view on some identity issues and makes some inaccurate claims. Anthopoulos I believe doesn't live in Greece. He's an Australian and subscribes to modern Australian liberal multicultural ideology (his wife is non-Greek I think). This influences his sense of Greek identity. He views Greek identity from western narrative of modern Greek rather than Greeks in Greece perspective. This is common with Greeks with mixed heritage or living in the diaspora. Asking Anthopoulos about Greek identity is sort of like asking the the Pakistani major of London about English identity. Or asking someone English living in America about English identity in England. Or asking the partially polish heritage Angela Merkel about German identity. In reality there are multiple contexts of Greek identity co-existing among Greeks.... 1. Greek citizen migrants which can be from anywhere (e.g. Giannis "Greek Freak" Basketball player). They are hyphenated Greeks that don't see ancient Greeks as their roots (the multicultural Greeks). 2. There someone similar Greeks that either due to recently mixed heritage or even political ideology that don't see themselve related to ancient Greek or care about ancient Hellenism (excluding migrants it makes up probably around 15 percent of population). The political non-Greeks are a portion of leftwing Greeks (typically Marxists but not exclusively so) see nations as "imagined communities". They believe nationalities and ethnicities are all fake. 3. There are Greeks that define Greek culture mostly through Greek Orthodox Christianity.They see ancient Greeks as their roots but the majority of Greek Christians don't spend much time reading up on ancient Greek culture or trying to make ancient Greek culture part of their daily lives. They typically work in the restaurant, tourist industry or agriculture. (think my Big Fat Greek Wedding stereotype of modern Greeks). Ancient Greeks didn't voluntary convert to Christianity as Paul claims. This is a myth that most European Christians believe but what actually happened is between 400-600 CE Christians were religious fundamentalists not unlike the Taliban today.. When Latin Roman emperors converted to Christianity, they forced the conversion of pagans throughout their multiethnic empire (see theodosius decrees, Justinian code). Essentialy in anyone (including Greeks) didn't convert to Christianity they risked being killed. It was at this time Ancient Hellenes were assimilated into Greek-speaking Romans. (what today have been renamed "Byzantines") . Between 400-1800 if you had asked most Greek-speakers in Greece what they were they would have answered Roman. 4. And then their ethnic Greeks that not only see ancient Greeks as their biological roots but focus on actually living the classics. We probably make up only about 20 percent of all self-described Greeks in the world. We all understand that we called ourselves Romans but see the Greek influences that made the eastern Roman state far different than the Latin Roman or Holy Roman. t varies individual to individual how Greekness is expressed by this group.. A minority have revived paganism. In my case I'm a atheist, I would not pray to Zeus (although I prefer the pagans to Christian religion). Most Greeks in this category express Greekness in ways that in many respects is just modern culture anywhere in the world (which was heavily influenced by ancient Greeks). The main difference is we tend to study subjects like philosophy, mathematics, physics, astronomy and other Greek classical ideas (updated with modern knowledge). as part of daily living over a lifetime rather than just school. Also protecting the Greek language and knowledge of Greek history is very important to us. Unlike many self-proclaimed Greeks, most of us would never marry any Greek that was from non-Greek background or even recently mixed heritage. In my case its not about not racism (although there are some racist Greek too) its because we believe the more we dilute our blood, the more we dilute the culture, the less Greek we become. It works the same with every ethnic group. Some care about preserving their culture. Others don't.

@ 13:30 Check your history,. Christianity did not come into India as a conquering force with weapons in hand ;. Much before the Portuguese set foot, there was Ezharappallikal in Kerala ... But historicity of the founder of this church is still a disputed topic among scholars but nonetheless these organisations itself was Christian. (Now don't come here and hurl ur abuses at me,. I am not supporting any religion foreign or domestic . I am only pointing out a historical fact) I hope all the religions in the world come to an end ! But alas that's only a faint hope.
