Fascinating ancient structures! Your explanation makes perfect sense, especially when mapped out the way that you did. They have likely served a variety of purposes over the millennia but their original purpose being defensive and later having an administrative revenue generating function as the society advanced is a logical conclusion based upon the information you presented. Great video!

Thanks mate, I plan to do more on the Mycenaean structures which still exist in September, I have wanted to do the Acropolis of Kazuma for a while and it’s strategic value.

Fascinating video. We were in the Peloponnese earlier this year and saw various small signs pointing to unnamed archeological sites tucked among the major (and famous) Mycenean ones. Your video now brings all of this whole network of buildings roads and passes to life. I'm glad you mentioned it on your "what do I do all day" 😉 video. Such an exciting, fascinating area.

Thank you, really appreciate your comment and thoughts. I agree, half the fun is trying to get to these little places which are signposted and yet not written about or visited, and then make sense of them, I will try to do more.

My issue with archeologists saying a building or structure is 100% a certain age based off the contents of the building is that it ignores the fact that we have homes and buildings that are hundreds or thousands of years old today. And if we just disappeared one day and future archeologists found an iphone in the Pantheon, using that logic, they would say it was built in 2024.

Too a point I agree, a date has to be arrived at from collective evidence. I regret saying 2000bc in the vid, I should have said 1600 to 2000 bc I think. It is likely the sites were developed early on and the current building evolved with time, as per many buildings.

Another great video, interesting that Mycenae was not just a single city state but a pretty vast network of cities that were trading all over the Mediterranean more than 3000 years ago. A little disappointed you didn't cover the 'ufo landing pad' theory in more detail 🙂

Yes, I find it fascinating as I travel about and learn about the culture as I see what they left on the ground, it was a very complicated and well managed civilisation

This was a very well argued and convincing discussion/video. It fleshes out and puts into context the acropolis of Mycenae. I initially thought the Heraion and the others were buttes for boar hunting or grouse shooting like the ones in Yorkshire. Just kidding, but whilst watching the countryside in your video, I couldn't help but marvel at the scenic hills and valleys and pictured myself shooting boar as they tumbled down the slopes. Anyway, thank you and I look forward to more of your fascinating Mycenean videos.

funnily enough there is very good Boar hunting around here, I am not a huge fan of hunting per se, but it is very necessary for maintaining limited numbers, and as you know, they can be aggressive when young are involved!! I agree that the geography of the land round here is amazing and unless you have a perception of it then you can't really put the civilisations and myths into context. It is baking hot here now so for me hiking season is over until September... I have some beach resort vids done, and then am Thinking about a couple of compilations, inc. Where did the Greeks come from? more about the culture itself, language, writing, buildings and myths rather than genetically, but I think that will be the end August.

Very good video to debunk the UFO nonsense, and your theory is consistent to what the American School concluded back in the 1930s.

Thanks, unfortunately wasn't a popular video, but one of my favourites!
@geogeo2299Ай бұрын
@@GreeceExplored Not popular because your channel's content is mainly addressed to expats, but if you keep producing historical vids you'll eventually attract the history nerds! And, imho, there's a dozen metric tons more potential for your channel in that direction.

@ I do have a couple more historical videos planned, Acropolis of Kazarma for one, but I want to mix it up a bit to be honest. We are refurbing an Athens apartment next year and I plan to do some content on that, and will do more historical vids next year, they are actually seasonal believe it or not, drop off badly in the winter…
@geogeo2299Ай бұрын
@@GreeceExplored Happy to hear that! As a Greek, I find it difficult to imagine any other reason someone would want to move to Greece other than the history. I mean, ok, I get the sun the sea and all that, but other countries have them too.
