I watched and enjoyed this video when it first came out because I am in the UK and have heard of green bean casserole before but absolutely no idea what was it in. I wanted to come back and say I have since made it for 2 different sets of people and they all really enjoyed it. Especially my husband who loves green beans so new ways to have them is great :) The veggie friend I made it for over New Years wants to make it herself. So massive thank you :)

I don't think I've ever seen anybody make a green bean casserole from scratch. It's always with canned/frozen beans, canned mushroom soup, and prepackaged french fried onions. It's still good, but I'd bet Evan's is better. Too bad you don't have a house full of roommates to try it on though
@janebaker9662 жыл бұрын
I'm planning to use tinned soup! Everything else fresh though. Well the green beans,with it being midwinter I might have to use frozen unless I buy ones flown in from Kenya. Those air miles,on the other hand it makes jobs for people which they like. I saw on tv. Better than no job. A dilemma.

Right!! I'm sure if I thought about it, I would have come to the conclusion that all these things could be made from scratch, but the only way I've seen it made is from cans. Although when you're cooking, a meal as big as Thanksgiving, I think the cans probably make this more realistic time wise.

Thank you for showing how Green Casserole should be cooked. When my American-daughter-in-law lived with us here in the UK she made this dish on Thanksgiving Day with tinned green beans, Campbell's Condensed Mushroom soup and a packet of dried Crispy Onions. It wasn't the nicest casserole I have tasted but as not to upset her we said it was good. She also cooked a savoury dish to go with the dinner that had Marsh mellow's on top!!! But I must admit the roast potatoes, turkey and veg were excellent.

Yikes, they had no clue and they LOVED it. It goes particularly well with Co-op apple ice cream, if you can get it. In my family we never had green bean casserole at Thanksgiving, but did have it often the rest of the year, so I guess that would solve your issue with it being "only a Thanksgiving dish." Plus ours had a rotini pasta base.

You're making it more British friendly, which I can appreciate, but as an American, I have questions ... LOL "Onions are like photoshop layers, ok?" Yes, I don't understand either, but I like them both. Oh, the puns. The puns! They hurt! Don't stop. "Deglaze the pan, little for him, little for me." Yup, that's how I cook, too. I absolutely love green bean casserole, the problem for me has become that the "french fried onions" you can buy prepared make me sick the last couple of years. So now, thanks to you, I have info on making my own fried onions (presumably without whatever preservatives or such that make me sick).

So to peel garlic faster. You can get a slice of garlic and use the flat side of your knife to do a quick crush. After that it takes 3 seconds to peel it. We make a lot of curries so this way makes sense to us and let's the garlic flavour out better. But if you are making linguine for example, you'll want the garlic shape then you don't want to do this method.

That's interesting. In India, the Engljsh word "buttermilk" is used for yogurt (called "curds" here) from which butter has been separated. It is sour and fat free . I've seen this made in real life, it was billed as G|randma's Recipe and was for a High School Graduation. What you fail to show in your interpretation is that the Green Beans came out of a giant tin, as did thew soup (Campbells condensed) and the onions were from a packet, so it was a vastly over-processed monstrosity, and nothing special as far as I was concerned. A couple of days later, as a thank you for their hospitality I coocked a Sunday Roast of Lamb and all tthe trimmings (so a standard UK Sunday lunch) an you would have thought I was Gordon Fkn Ramsey the way they went on - I basically did it all while giving a cooking demo as they were mesmerised by what I was doing, I think it was the most cooking fror a single meal that had ever been done in their huge, gorgeous kitchen.
