ODA was in 1968 for me. So busy fighting in Vietnam as an infantryman with the 101st ABN division that I had to take the honor system “punch card” SF “Q course” in between knocking 70 pound Gooks on their ass! I do a few push-ups and check it off the list, repel out of a helicopter and check it off the list, do some mountain climbing and check it off the list etc. etc. by the time I had met all the prerequisites I mailed in the card and signed the bottom! At long last I received a lateral transfer to the Fifth SF Group! What a spicy group. The motto on the patch was” RAPE KILL PLUNDER ! and underneath the rocker it said EAT BABIES! Please standby for a minute, the nurse is bringing me my medication.😂

Retired SF TM SGT here....go ahead and go into the Marines.......learn everything you can, excel @ everything you learn, then at the end of your enlistment, switch over to SF, your Marine buddies will try and talk you out of it, but trust me their are plenty of Marines who have become excellent Green Berets and you bring skill sets and the ability to talk to the Navy and Marines in their lingo when doing joint ops. I would be stoked to get you on my ODA. If you don't know another language, pick up one while doing your Marine time, spend 15-30 mins a day, it will pay back dividends. Good luck!
@NinjaGangSigns4 жыл бұрын
@@danstoye3902 thanks a lot for your comment!!! i figured that Marines would be a great start! My goal is to go Marine RECON -> MARSOC Raiders. My impression of the raiders is extremely by the book so it seems like this would make me a really solid green beret candidate and someone who is diverse and everything that you said! I have no infantry experience so in my mind it would be good to work my way up and master the basics [and then some] through the Marines! I bet I will be given a super hard time going from MARSOC to SF!!
@danstoye39023 жыл бұрын
Yes the transition from a conventional unit...even one as specialized as MARSOC can be difficult. But you will probably find as you mature that the discipline and following your leadership gets tedious. In SF you are expected to work cohesivilly as a team but also be able to operate on your own instructing and leading indig psnl. I would definitely keep your cards close to your chest about any decision to go Army SF, while still a Marine.

Bitchn' Fishing Green berets are jungle warfare, foreign military assistance and guerrilla operations. Navy seal are direct action, anti terrorism and Teir 1 black ops ( Very dangerous and lethal ). Army ranger and elite infantry, direct action, combat support, intelligence gathering, Taking out high value targets, preparing ambushes, directing bomb raids all that good. My opinion, depends on what type of person you are and whats your dream. Best of luck and hit the gym, swim and jog alot and you be great. =) All the best

FREELAND FOREVER Oh trust me i realized at the beginning of this year i need to work out i can pass all the pt tests for those branches but im a over achiever i need to go up and beyond and i wanna be a person who goes in and kicks ass and gets a deployment does that help with what branch i should join and im a great swimmer too if it helps could you tell me which one is for me?
@FREEDOM-w5x7 жыл бұрын
Bitchn' Fishing I dont care, chances are you wash out at the end. War is not a game, no one on the battlefield wants a hard ass or rambo, can you deal with failure and recover, can you deal with death and coming home with no legs, can you deal with death, can you deal with being in the cold alone deep behind hostile territory and neck deep in blood and guts, most guys want to have the special forces tab just so they can go around like a tough guy with a big ego and get woman if you cant check your ego then your a wanna bee rambo like the rest of the hobos that washed out but if you can be self resilient, confident in your self, never to be pissed off to be gotten to then your solid. The greatest enemy you will face on the battlefield is yourself, your mind telling you to quit seening your buddies guts all over the ground and you pucking blood, its dramatic I know but thats reality, the men in special forces wants men who at a drop of a hat be willing to make the tough calls, make those decisions that few date to make or jump on a live grenade without thinking to save a buddy, thats a warrior, thats what they want, if you think its all about skill and speed, you sadly mistaken. By your attitude you suit ranger because your cocky and confident bordering on arrogant so rangers suit you. If you can adapt, and be willing to die for your fellow man next to you and be willing to eat a bullet the other branches are right up your all. Hope it helped. Stay safe.
