The original version of this remake was supposed to feature China as the main adversary. That's why you see PLA Type 07 uniforms and knock-off HMMWVs. BUT even when this movie was made we couldn't offend our Chinese overlords so the enemy was switched to North Koreans.

As a South Korean immigrant and combat vet I can verify my cousins to the North are absolutely worthless in terms of military power. I was stationed in SK at the beginning of my second enlistment and ROK MI was in the process of debriefing a number of NK deserters. Through casual conversation with one of their MI NCO’s, he relayed to me that one of the NK guys seeking asylum stated that everything from their weapons to comm gear was decades old with the exception of a few notable newer pieces of equipment clearly purchased from the Chinese.

I'm no military expert or anything but I worked in telecom power for many years and if you take out the power grid the civilian communications will follow very quickly. The cell towers do operate on line power but the equipment itself uses a rectifier to converto DC. There is battery power in case line power is lost but depending on the amp hour capabilities you have about eight to twelve hours, eight is the average to restore line power before they're gone and the tower and all the equipment goes down. This also applies to the tandems and central office equipment as well. Some COs have generators but they will last until the the diesel or natural gas is exhausted,, then batteries, then just like the towers it all goes down. Even the ones with natural gas lines, it takes line power to deliver the gas so...... I will tell you this, the degree to which telecom executives takes backup power ranges from don't give a shit because maintaining them cuts into the bossman's bonus to fanatic because they have already been bitten in the ass by major outages. So, and this is just my thinking, if I had the ability to down the power grid, I wouldn't worry too much about civilian communications because if the grid goes down civilian comunications will be spotty at best but mostly dead. One caveat, 911 is on a different system with different power requirements and uptime metrics. 911 might still work to a certain degree a little longer. It will be useless forthe most part because in eight to twelve hours the front facing infrastructure such as cell towers will be without power and not functioning anyway. By the way, resotring power may not solve all the problems because quite a few COs have ridiculously old switches and if power is lost completely sometimes what is called "global configurations" are lost and it in essence bricks the switch and depending on how old it is it may be permanently. If invaders take out line power....It will cause a domino effect that is hard to predict but there isn't a good scenario.

Dude spot on about the knives on belt topic. I 100 percent agree!. I stopped doing that a long time ago, and now I wear a small fixed blade that hangs on the inside of my vest with the handle facing perpendicular to my right armpit. That way I can easily reach inside of my vest if I need it. The sheath clip sticks out on the front of my vest at the top center of the vest. I thought it would be an issue, but so many people think its for hanging a body cam on. Best camoflage ever for a knife, and I dont have to worry about someone targeting it.

It's funny how when I was active duty I was always told, by higher ups, that firing upon parachutist is a violation of LOAC. Unless they fire first. Flip side, I was told, was that it's a violation of LOAC to fire while parachuting. I didn't find out that that was incorrect until after I got out & looked it up myself. It's you may not fire upon parachutist from aircraft in distress. Which leads me to wonder, if 3 airborne troops jump out of a transport plane, 1 jumps out normally, 2 jumps as the plane takes fire, 3 jumps out as the plane loses control. Am I allowed to fire on all 3? 🤔
@blastshadowproject

Yes, paratroops are exempt from this rule, which includes when exiting an aircraft in distress. Typically flight crews are kitted out distinctly from combat troops (flight suits vs. fatigues, etc) which should be apparent at the effective engagement ranges of an individual infantry weapon

One thing I thought interesting was the Abn op happened during the day light. WWII occurred the night before the land invasion. Was this deployment because the NK had no night vision capabilities, and they couldn’t assemble in targets at night? Or, this was done just for cinematic reasons, to show the scale of the invasion and the ensuing chaos?

Good info on why cops shouldn’t wear fixed blade knives, another one that use to drive me crazy with boots fresh out of the academy, was them wearing lock blades put in the front plate carrier pouch, where about a quarter of it was visible right above the the center of their uniform shirts. Would have to show them how easy it was to get that knife away from them and use it on them, before they realized it was no longer in their possession.

@@paladin11C40 unfortunately the hosts comment about fine motor skills going to shit affects the officer too. It is a question without any easy answer; what is best to have on you if a perp goes for a deadly piece of your kit. I think most switched on cops would say that you first need training and practice in ground skills because that will help whether you are in a fight over a weapon or not. But as for having a fixed blade knife or not I don't think it is so simple. Anything on your belt or carrier can be used against you by a desperate felon. Taser, flashlight, cuffs, pepper spray, folding or fixed knife, sidearm and/or back-up gun... Hell, they could brain you with your radio if that is all they can get their hands on. In the end I think the answer is more for each individual officer to decide and for them to remain aware of the risks of what they bring into every contact.

Good movie for green berets. Many people don’t understand the difference between them and seals and the unit but what’s going on in red dawn is the exact kind of thing SF does. Like if same thing happened to another country we’d send them in and they would build an insurgencency from the ground up from scratch, but ultimately stay behind the scenes themselves So was interesting to hear their take on a movie that depicts an op in their mo. Even if it was a pretty cheesy movie

The Unit would know to do the same as SF. The Unit, offically 1st SFOD-D;1st Special Forces Operational Detachment Delta,Aka Delta, most of their guys are former Green Berets and Rangers so would know SF Unconventional Warfare and Delta is even better at UW because they have more experience using foreign and non US weapon systems and non military training than regular SF ODAs would. That said all of that info is moot because Hemsworth is playing a Marine guy home on leave and would have some idea of UW and such tactics but I would say he did pretty well either way.

I know this is an old video for you guys but I just found your channel recently...anyway, I agree about carrying a fixed blade as a cop. I was a patrol cop in CA for years and while I absolutely did carry a knife, it was a folding knife and it wasn't out in the open for anyone to see it grab. I could get to it fairly easily if needed but suspects wouldn't see it or know it was there to use against me. Can't say I ever saw or worked with dudes who carried a fixed blade on their belts. 👍

You guys never commented on the best part of the movie where their insurgency starts to get the upper hand and it shows the wolverines driving down the road with all these badass vehicles with like quad 50 cars and stuff mounted on top My fav was the Ford Mustang with a static minigun mounted on the top. I’m sure these guys use stuff like that all the time. Like rail gun arc flamethrowers mounted on dump trucks and stuff

Nice one guys... My question is how did the enemy get their vehicles on the ground so fast after the paratroopers showed up? How did they get all those armored vehicles and tanks on the freeways and through the border without Any early warning? The only way to do it for real would be to do some type of joint exercise, where the "friendlies" quickly and without notice become "hostiles." They would also need to control the media from the outset, which is not a stretch by any means.... 👍 Time to check the media's backgrounds....

Well if you think about it with a full-on invasion, they wouldn't need to drop tons of equipment. America has all the armored vehicles that they would need.

Fun little fact here: This movie was filmed in Mount Clemens, Michigan. That's only a couple hours drive from where I grew up. Also, when I worked at a trash company, the guy that trained me ran, and probably still runs, a militia group (no, not the one that was in the news) and trains dogs. His 2 German Shepards were in the film as guard dogs. Also also, my wife has a high school buddy that will always pause on one scene because his pickup truck was parked on the street when they recorded the scene. Halfway decent movie, I more like how they filmed it in my home state. But they should've stuck with yhe original enemy, which was a Chinese invasion.
