What really helped me moving from blue to black were these key points: 1. *Engage your core* 2. *Engage your knees* - You want to sort of have a "bouncing" motion when doing your S turns. 3. *Anticipate changes in speed* - look ahead for steep dropoffs, bumps, obstacles to help you prepare mentally.

Awesome videos. I almost gave up on learning and then it snowed a lot. The slope closest to home (Zürich) had just closed for the season. I went the first day with a Nitro with a lot of rocker, but the conditions were powder. I picked up a Bataleon Party Wave from the local shop 3 minutes from home and went back today. It was amazing. No one out, not even tracks from other skiers in the beginning. Free because the lifts weren’t operating. I “surfed” down the mountain, just like I envisioned. It was everything snowboarding should be. No worries about falling because of the powder. I even went down the black run. My skate and surf background kicked right in and shamed my kiddie slope tail bone breaker experiences. I have been watching your videos constantly and learning so much. Thank you!

Hey there, Kevin! First and foremost, thanks for taking the time to create this epic resource - you're channel has been invaluable in my own progression. Additionally, as a Texan, I spend a lot of time trying to build my snowboard skills off the mountain and FAR from snow. I use what's called a Freebord to "snowboard" the hills in my neighborhood year-round. If you haven't heard about it or seen it, you should definitely check it out! I'm in no way sponsored by them or receiving any kick backs for this recommendation. I just think that you and some of your non-mountain dwelling fans might really enjoy it as an off-season training tool. Thanks again, and keep these awesome videos coming! -Paul

I'll never forget my first day on a black run. It was my second day on a board, and a heavy snow storm rolled in while we were on the lift. We were in the middle of a whiteout by the time we reached the top. Strong winds had blown all the powder off the peak. It was so icey, I could barely stop to strap-in. I've never been so nervous in my entire life as I was looking down the hill that day. I definitely fell on my ass more than a few times, but it was exhilarating. My proudest moment was after we reached the bottom and a lift operator was warning us about the conditions at the top, and I said "I know! I just came down from there!" with a huge smile on my face.

The tip about keeping your hand above the tail end is good. I think about leading turns with my back hand and trying to have the back of the board follow. Don’t think about this as trying to throw the back foot in that direction, but gently turning from the top of your body down into the board.

really liking all the vids on this channel! i learned to snowboard this year (2018) in after 1 lesson, 4days and watching every snowboardprocamp vids i coud- i was linking turns smoothly down the blue run on my local slope here in southern Sweden, and carving turns really nicely on the green run! nice single line all the way down - So this year i plan to fly over to whistler! Would be really cool to get some idea of which are the best slopes to tackle / progress on - e.g greens that arent super flat, more mellow blues - and even the more challenging stuff - though maybe that would ruin part of the fun exploring such a massive resort as whislter blackcomb??

Make sure you stay on an edge and alternate. You're not stable riding flat on your base and with some snowboards can be really likely to suddenly catch an edge and get chucked. Also keep your knees bent

Maybe you could practice more breaking, this could give you more confidence to actually practice going faster. When you do fall, try not to stick out your hands so you won't break your wrists!

@micha84695 жыл бұрын
Frankly I don't think that's wise. You should stay balanced on a board, keeping weight on one foot makes you unstable. You should 'unlearn' this habit.
@utsavjamwal5 жыл бұрын
Interesting, multiple instructors and friends of mine who have been snowboarding for decades say unequivocally to keep the weight on the front foot and use the back foot to just guide and glide, so I'd say basketball thingy is a good thing.

I just took a private beginner snowboard lesson and the instructor taught me to use my feet like a gas pedal and then lift the toes for heel side/brake to connect my turns. Katharine Custer Gotta know which way is down hill. That determines when you switch to the new (uphill) edge. On some very sideways runs, you might not even switch to a new edge.

I'm already on my day 12 up the mountain and I am still making wide S turns, and I am still scared of steep slopes so I go back to falling leaf, I really want to progress...what's the tip on how to actually go straight and switch edges really fast as you guys do? I tried before to go straight on a steep slope but I gain too much speed and my board kind of "jumps" on the bumps on the snow and the edge goes too hard and I fall. I feel so lost because I really want to progress and go faster to keep up with friends that really know how to snowboard. Thank you!
