He went from throwing away two glasses that black men drank out of in the beginning of the movie, to inviting a black man over to his home for Christmas dinner by the end of the movie. I mean perfectly. I worked for many years with italians and this is exactly how they will interact flawlessly in toxicity and everyday life. This scene alone made me want to watch the movie. Tony's smart man. Bouncing at a big club like that, you probably run into your fair share of wise guys, and maybe have to put hands on them. He's getting in good with his "pal Gio" there so that he's got some juice too if he ever needs someone to vouch for him after roughing up someone who is connected.
@griffinsalluci37873 жыл бұрын
If he roughed up a made guy being on Gio’s good graces wouldn’t save him. He would be gone. He never made any money for them. (In the movie, real life stories not shown are not included.) So he wouldn’t be of any importance and would be clipped without challenge. To me he seemed like he was trying to join up in the ranks and take care of certain favors for LaScudo.
@KS-xk2so3 жыл бұрын
@@griffinsalluci3787 Yeah for sure he couldn't knock out a made guy, but then again Tony is smart enough to know not to do that. I more meant "connected" guys. Guys who probably know somebody who is made, but ain't themselves yet. Gio could step in then most likely, if the guy made an issue of it. Tony seems to be well known in the neighbourhood for his ability to throw hands. I feel like if he wanted muscle work for legit mobsters, he'd already have it. They used to give us that in acting classes and later when I directed I would make my actors and actresses write everything down about the way their character walked and talked and eats, etc. down to what kind of dog or pet they would have, or what kind of car. Or if they would be the type to have a pet. It’s a good exercise and many many serious actors use that in their craft. I always want to use wigs though. Because I don’t want my long hair cut that’s down to my hips and even longer. Now Wigs look very convincing when they are done right. A good wig master is a great asset too.

These opening scenes made me think of John Gregory Dunne's fiction or John O'Hara's. Viggo Mortensen is a character who will change and develop as all dynamic characters in fiction change with their experience of the unforgiving world.

I hear all these Aragorn references, but does anyone remember that in "The Prophecy " Viggo played the Devil himself? And did a chilling job of it as well!
