It's been three whole weeks Since I left your home This sudden fear has left me trembling 'Cause now it seems that I Am out there on my own And I'm feeling so alone Pay attention to the cracked streets And the broken homes Some call it slums Some call it nice I want to take you through A wasteland I like to call my home Welcome to paradise A gunshot rings out at the station Another urchin snaps and Left dead on his own It makes me wonder why I'm still here For some strange reason it's now Feeling like my home And I'm never gonna go Pay attention to the cracked streets And the broken homes Some call it slums Some call it nice I want to take you through A wasteland I like to call my home Welcome to paradise Dear mother Can you hear me laughing? It's been six whole months since that I have left your home It makes me wonder why I'm still here For some strange reason it's now Feeling like my home And I'm never gonna go Pay attention to the cracked streets And the broken homes Some call it slums Some call it nice I want to take you through A wasteland I like to call my home Welcome to paradise Paradise

Yo- any musicians out there wanna argue with me? Green Day is obviously tight, and 2 cuts above the standard punk-rock/whatever band, but my contention is that what makes them great is the singing and the drums. That's not to say that the other instruments aren't important, but when I listen to the drums, I can't even imagine Green Day with a mediocre drummer. They couldn't get away with the distortion field they're creating without an esceptionally precise, assertive and imaginative drum structure. It's not like Neil Pert, where he's competing for attention with the other guys- it's that he's boosting them like basically no other drummer than Herb from Primus. They are right to just add layers of complex sound and reverb that centers around a single note to his rhythm- he and the vocals can carry the day. It takes discipline to hold back what doesn't need to be expressed in order to better express the whole. If you think I'm ignorant or full of shit, please go ahead and explain to me exactly why. I don't like to sub during sex, but if someone can whoop my ass logically, I love that shit.

Fun Facts: The song is sung as Billie is talking or sending a message to his mother, after moving out of her house. The first verse is Billie talking to his mother after weeks of leaving her place, telling her that he's scared about being on his own. The second part describes Billie writing to her after a few months of living at his own place, now being happy to live on his own.
