As for cringe one of the only things that ever hits me hard in that department is when they have an awkward and introverted character try to act smooth or cool to impress someone their crushing on. Maybe I'm speaking too much from personal experience but someone with that personality type would not pull that! They know good and damn well that they'd make a spectacular fool of themselves and fear of doing just that is why they haven't approached this person already! This doesn't happen except in scripted moments. Moments that I swear are designed to test what level of sympathetic embarrassment it takes for you to cringe so so hard your ribs squish your lungs.

something this show does really well is making chaotic scenes relaxing. In many works that get humor and story beats out of chaotic high action scenes, it just stresses me out. It's too much for me to process at once and I just want things to slow down again. In shows like this that doesn't happen, every element that is added to the chaos is set up and then followed up, no scene like that lingers too long, and the animation is fluid enough that I can process what I'm looking at. Instead of thinking "Oh no, this is gonna be a lot" I think "Oh this is gonna be a lot! I can't wait to see it!"

This show was really great. I wasn't originally expecting much from it based upon what I saw in the trailers but it surpassed all my expectations. I thought they were going to bloat the story with boring fluff but they actually made it engaging. I thought the characters were going to be caricatures but they had depth. The animation is top notch and gleefully reminded me of the hay days of when we got quality hand drawn animation from Disney, Warner Bros and Don Bloth. The only thing I really disliked about it was main villain as he felt more flat and cookie cutter cut out villain. I really hope we get another season.

Episode 10 destroyed me. It was such a weird experience, being so emotionally impacted by a series based on a children’s book less than 100 words long. Idk if I just related too much to that episode or what but I literally had to stop watching and reflect for a minute. Also I knew the second Guy and Sam were on screen together that the internet was going to ship them, and honestly I think the show writers knew it too and purposefully had scenes that were very questionable, and I’m dying over it.

How can this and almost everything that isn't DC Live Action, be 95% consistent and well written?
@judgem0rt1s233 жыл бұрын
I think that's because cartoons in general are able to get away with a lot of stuff that live action just can't. Also I think there's this unspoken thing of "It's live action, so everything needs to be more realistic", like that bit in the first X-Men movie where Cyclops mentioned how stupid it would be for real life super heroes like them to where weird costumes like the ones they had in the comics.
@judgem0rt1s233 жыл бұрын
That bit at the end about not wanting a season 2 but wanting more in general is a phenomenon I've only ever really felt with Calvin and Hobbes, which was to me what Green Eggs and Ham was to you growing up (Although I really loved Dr. Suess' works as well). Calvin and Hobbes was something I always wanted more of in some way, shape, or form. With that said... I'm on the fence about Bill Watterson continuing it, because as he put it he very well could continue making Calvin and Hobbes strips to the end of time, but ultimately he'd be retreading old ground over and over again. We saw how *fun* that is with the Simpsons... And yet, to this day I want more of it. Toys and merchandise would've been good (lord knows I and a billion others would've emptied our wallets for that) but Watterson himself avoided that because he felt marketing his characters cheapened their value, which for a long time I didn't understand until I looked real hard at Garfield. I guess what I'm trying to say is: Wanting more out of something is a natural yet specific phenomenon... but is getting a healthy dose of "more" something that can be given without some dollops of disappointment sprinkled on top? Edit: That being said, that one Robot Chicken sketch they did of Calvin and Hobbes was a screaming riot, and easily one of my favorite moments in that show.

@@nitrosherbert888 There was a brief moment where I was excited for the movie "Dave Made A Maze" because the trailer for it looked fun, and the director's name was "Bill Watterson". Later learned it wasn't the same Bill Watterson, and the movie was dog shit and nowhere near as fun as the trailer made it to be. I agree that it would be cool if he did something else with his talents... but I also take his choice of ending Calvin and Hobbes as he did what he set out to do, and that's all he cared about. Which is both disappointing and respectable in its own rights.

Dr.Seuss was some of the first books I was introduced to as a young child. Reading has always held a special place in my heart because of the financial sacrifices my grandmother gave to ensure that I had a proper education and learned to read. She purchased a subscription to several children's books that advanced as you aged. The first shipment came when I couldn't even read and I just used the books to build a tower or town to play with my dolls. Once I started attending school and learned how to read I then started reading them. It was like a whole new world to me. Once I started reading my grandmother and aunts took time with us to encourage us to keep reading by listening to us and guiding us in word pronouncement. Looking back I was truly blessed to have a family that encouraged education and made sure we learned something in what little way they could.

Sam changing himself over and over just to find something that will keep someone around long term heavily reminds me of grade school me throwing myself into various social groups and hoping someone would decide to keep me. Guy coming from a loving and supportive home but feels like the failure in a group of successes even though they don't care about that reminds me of my family and how much I keep hurting myself believing I am not worth the same as my siblings. I found out about this show 20 minutes ago when I saw you posted this video. I'm a lifelong Seuss fan. Holy crap, this cartoon is BEAUTIFUL. It looks _aggressively_ hand-drawn, as if to shove the fact in your face. When it's moving it looks like you can see un-erased excess pencilwork, but when you pause you can see how deliberate everything is. And contrasted with the shading and palette. It immediately reminded me of The Iron Giant, even though it looks nothing like that movie. I need to watch this.

The other ones I could understand cause Guy WAS lying to her but all he did in the last one was walk into the same room and was clearly just as shocked as everyone else and yet somehow Mischellee believes that he did something because... why? Because he just so happened to be in the same building while there was an important event going on?...??? tbh, there is a thing of "learned helplessness" that exists within guy's arc. he feels helpless, powerless, incapable of doing anything. when you're in that bad of a position, you begin to feel like the world is just against you, and you just stop trying altogether. to get out of it, you need someone to take your hands, and show you that you CAN impact the world and that you're NOT helpless. This is effectively that for guy. It's his journey showing that he can make a difference to people, and he isn't just some failure.

I’ve seen the season, Shady. I think I’m gonna know your arguments, and might agree. But I have to make a point out first. As a straight-up adaptation, it isn’t alluring. You are not getting the book, and only the book. Which brings me to the other hand. As an adaptation given the extreme liberties WB was given, yes. This shit is absolutely worth it and then some. As you’ve said, this series so far still has the roots. And the adventure in the series can keep kids rather locked in most of the time. By the way, the animation is very much frame-by-frame…and look at the art style. It’s remiscent of one Chuck Jones. It isn’t exact, but the style is HEAVILY inspired. And I think THAT is one reason why you are drawn to it. (Add) the Michellee cringe is kind of (I THINK) intended to make kids and adults…cringe. I do believe it’s absolutely meant to be the way we view it. As for the things between her and Guy, I personally DID find them a little more impactful. Accidental mishaps and misconceptions eroding her trust until the last two (?) episodes (for those who didn’t watch, I won’t give that away) literally illustrates what it’s like to have a complex relationship…albeit in the exaggerated and highly fantastical manner they chose to do so.🤣
