Ironically enough Ron is shown to be arguably more capable than Kim if he applied himself. He managed to make a lethal weapon out of literal trash, once he was made evil he effectively became a super genius who made numerous pieces of lethal technology, his Mystical Monkey Power essentially turned him into Goku, he later becomes the star running-back whose skills likely would get him into the NFL, really the only thing Kim has he doesn't is Drive and Confidence.

To be fair, there are a couple of episodes in the first season where the show pairs Kim up with a less competent counterpart just to make her look better; the first Global Justice episode is an example, but the message was rarely "men bad, so women good" but rather tearing down pompous know-it-alls.

Despite all three of the members being fully grown men with years of combat training and experience, they are shown as extremely arrogant and easily get trashed by Kim. @user-gd8ge1gq7d
@user-gd8ge1gq7d 8 ай бұрын
@@timkjggxyz6124 In this episode, Kim is a hypocrite. Reproaches Ron for being "And your head got so big you could have worn that!", although sometimes she behaves the same way. If someone does something no worse than her or vice versa, better, Kim instead of admitting it or being glad, envies and whines like a little capricious child whose mother didn’t buy the toy he liked and he threw a tantrum. She's no less an envious narcissist. Ron suffered twice because of Kim's narcissism. But he's not the only victim. Her sassy twin brothers Jim and Tim suffered too. Yes, they don't have the most exemplary behavior, but even they don't deserve to suffer because of their sister's narcissism. If Kim was envious of Ron or her brothers, then in addition to envy, she threw tantrums. Therefore, in response to her reproaches, I mentally said, “Oh, oh, oh, young miss, who would say! Don’t you do the same thing sometimes? Yes, but you will do anything not to admit it, because, well, I'm Kim Possible, I can do anything, I'm so fighting, cool". Kim is an envious. Envy and narcissism are characteristic of perfectionists like her. If someone does something no worse or better, then for perfectionists and narcissists this is a control shot in the head to their ego. So it's good that I'm not a perfectionist. Plus, when people like Kim are too correct, it is very boring and uninteresting. That's why I'm a little like Ron, I prefer to relax

You hit the nail on the head that Kim and Ron are nearly perfect foils of each other. One detail that really displays how essential Kim and Ron are to each other is Sitch in Time. Sure, Shego confirms that they're a great team, but she doesn't know why. Earlier in the special however, Kim went on her first mission to rescue the rich Cuddle Buddy collector. As they arrive to the mansion, Kim's confidence falters, thinking that she really can't do this. Ron nips this in the butt right away as he provided insanely vital encouragement, stating that Kim can really do anything. It seems like if Ron wasn't there, Kim Possible wouldn't have taken that first step to being the Kim Possible of the present day. The writers of this show were absolutely incredible in keeping the continuity and having subtlety.

You’re also so right about the villains adding so much to the programme-Doctor Drakken and Shego had a great dynamic together, a golf club-swinging Scottish stereotype, a motorbike/monster truck loving hick stereotype, etc. Kim and Ron are amazing by themselves and even better together. Their friendship really was so endearing and they really helped each other grow to become better people. As unrealistic as some of the show was, there was also so much realism in the awkwardness of being a teen, the school stuff, and even pointing to Kim’s genetics being a major help. This show had so much built into it that made it a true classic.

Another excellent example of two characters being great foils to each other and having good synergy is in fact ANOTHER prominent duo in this series, and that would be its main villains, Dr. Drakken and Shego. Their dynamic is *near-identical* to Kim and Ron’s, with Drakken being the funny guy and Shego the straight-woman. And much like how Kim’s success in repeatedly saving the world is thanks to her strong teamwork with Ron, most of Drakken’s world domination plans (even though they always end in failure) wouldn’t even have gotten off the ground without Shego. As we see in Season 4’s “Stop Team Go!”, the dude couldn’t even _open a jar of pickles_ without her. They bring out the best (or arguably the WORST) in each other, and it makes them as solid a team as Kim and Ron, not to mention their most formidable foes.

Plus, she has flaws too. Despite her 'can do anything' motto, Kim has been shown to have her weaknesses, too. Another thing is that Kim has trouble asking a guy to the dance, despite the fact that she is one of the most popular girls at school, where Ron asks literally EVERY girl to said dance! These flaws make Kim a great character because it shows her that even the smartest, strongest person CAN have problems, but can OVERCOME them as well, ie. Not necessarily. Most of the supporting characters in the show earnestly felt (or outright said) that Ron was a hapless loser who was out of Kim's league, but because of their childhood as long-time besties ever since elementary school, it was a natural, slow burn progression & their constantly being together - both as teenage students attending school as well as an athletic super spy & affable doofus sidekick complementary rescue team duo - only made things stronger, because viewers were shown that Kim fails more when the episode focuses on something Ron is better at than her & she also fails when put with anyone else but Ron as her partner, so as it's almost as if they were fated to be together.

It is not really friendzoning. Ron definitely thought Kim was attractive and considered dating her. But because in school they are in different peer leagues and he was worried it would mess up their friendship, he decided initially not to date her. Friendzoning means turning someone down due to a lack of romantic or sexual interest in that person. Ron definitely doesn't fit that category.

look back to "a stitch in time" and this is revisited and actually proven The moment Kim and Ron are forced to break up the team because Shego got ron's mom transfered to norway, everything goes wrong for Kim, she remains her usual amazing self but without the dynamic she fails, Shego admits at the end that the reason she did it is that despite not actually having a high oppinion of Ron or Kim for that matter she realizes that putting both of them together makes for an amazing duo, the reason we love Kim despite her having very little flaws is because she does have flaws and because unlike most such shows, Ron isn't the perpetual lacky and bud of the joke, Ron has a good number of episodes where he got to shine, and usually those are also the ones where Kim suffers. Take the home ed classes, Kim wanted to do fotography but she and ron end up being forced to do the one course nobody wanted. Barkin is forced to give it(again) because apparantly the usual teacher has been gone for years and nobody realized because nobody took that class but the beauty is that Ron blossoms here, he in fact becomes a veritable superstar in the school, everybody wants a chance at his gastronomic excelence, Kim however fails miserably, eventually she is made to be Ron's assistent ergo, basically the new lunch lady, she get's to experience what it must be to be the Ron to his Kim for a change and they actually appreciate eachother even more by the end, same situation with the job at bueno nacho, Kim blows it off as unimportant compared to saving the world whilst Ron actually finds that he shines there, and as a result does not want to leave, eventually ron comes to save Kim with rufus anyway and they appologize another thing that makes it great is that there aren't many cheap thropes, when Ron is set up for a "boy who cried wolf" scenario the audience expects exactly that to happen, ergo Kim not believing that the diablo toys came to live, but whilst everybody laughs it up she actually takes it serious, that is the way to subvert expectations, Kim had no reason at that moment to believe it, her eyes seemed to indicate that there were no evil toys but her history with Ron told her that he wouldn't make something like that up and that he isn't crazy

@@TheUnseenPath I wouldn't really consider the show putting one character down to raise the other. People have strengths and flaws. The show just chose to focus on some things Ron is good at because most of the time we see stuff Kim is really good at. It was just Ron's time to shine in those moments. It also gives us time to focus on Kim's jealousy issue. She HATES when she's not the best since she's so good at so many things. And it's natural for some teens to not be immediately happy if their friend (especially a friend who many see as inferior to her) succeed. But Kim learns that it's ok to not be the best and apologizes for being salty and admits Ron's got his talents.

Honestly, this episode is one of the biggest reasons why I'm such a big fan of the Kim/Ron ship even though I hated it as a kid. I can count on one hand the number of male/female cartoon duos who are evenly matched and who genuinely respect each other. It always seems like they make the guy WAY too incompetent and the girl way too critical and/or overpowered. There have been so many shows (looking at you, adult animation) where you're left wondering "What the hell did she see in that idiot?" Make no mistake, Ron's an idiot, but he's ALSO incredibly outgoing, sympathetic, laid back, and creative - all things that Kim herself struggles with. When all you see is action, it can be easy to brush him off as just another goofy sidekick, but when you actually watch their day-to-day interactions, it becomes clear that she can be just as clumsy and flawed as he is. Even if many people dislike the ship or would rather have stayed friends, I think that Kim and Ron just had to happen. It's the culmination of the (albeit limited) growth that the two went through over the seasons. Ron had to gain confidence in his own abilities before he really saw himself dating someone like Kim, and while Kim was shown to be interested in him several times throughout the series, she still had to learn to let go of what other people thought of them before she was ready to take that leap. They helped each other to grow by supporting one another, and it just so happened to result in a relationship that both of them wanted but neither were ready for until that point. It was surprisingly mature, ESPECIALLY for mid-00s Disney Channel. Anyway, I'm super late to the party so I'm probably just shouting into the ether at this point, lol. I just really respect what they did with this ship and I never get the chance to talk about it.

I loved the fact that the Ron Factor was kind of a plot point in the movie as well. Shego using time travel puts events in place to allow her to take over the world. While looking through kims and rons past adventures she acknowledges that when they are together they always win she never understood why but she accepted it and had rons family moved as far away as possible which led to Kims next few missions ending in failure.

@TherealRNOwwfpooh
@TherealRNOwwfpooh Жыл бұрын
Kim can be big-headed. Her motto is "I can do anything" & her family's motto is "Anything's possible for a Possible". To quote Planet Zoidstar: *We've seen plenty of times that Kim can be quite prideful and elitist (like when she got stuck on designer clothes because she was too proud to settle for less) as she's not used to being shown up or seen as less important than someone else, especially Ron. She cites her parents' qualities as being why she's so good, so while she downplays them, she genuinely seems to believe she is intrinsically better than most people at many things, which she canonically is.* *I'm fine for Kim to have pride as one of her primary flaws, it's just I see humility as something that doesn't come naturally to her. Between her innate talent, skill, effortless popularity, and how she's consistently the best at what she does. She may struggle in more mundane ways, but those generally aren't glamorous or highly valued things.* *The whole Ron Factor thing bugs her because it calls her Spy skill into question, her strongest asset is being attributed to Ron of all people. So her pride being hurt by that is understandable, Kim, the effortless prodigy, is not being given the credit and praise she feels she is due. Her sidekick is being singled out as her primary reason for succeeding at what comes naturally to her.*

@@TherealRNOwwfpooh When Kim said to Ron "And your head got so big you could have worn that!" and "See?! That's what I mean. You are so prone to big-headiness" I mentally said “Oh, oh, oh, who would say, young miss! Aren’t you like that too sometimes? Yes, you’re like that too, you just don’t want to admit it, because, well, I’m Kim Possible, I can do anything!". If someone turns out to be better at something than Kim, or does something just as good as her, like Ron (at working at Bueno Nacho or cooking) or her sassy twin brothers Jim and Tim, or Tweebs, as she calls them for their unangelic behavior, Kim, instead of admitting it or being happy, is jealous and whines, like a little capricious child whose mother didn’t buy the toy he liked and he threw a tantrum. In one of the episodes, while investigating a series of thefts committed by the same person, framing celebrities, Jim and Tim suggested that the thief could be a person changing his appearance, but Kim did not take the brothers’ version seriously, because she's too mad that they're obnoxious, sassy boys and hooligans, but by not taking Tweebs' words seriously, Kim is behaving no better than her brothers. Later, Jim and Tim conducted their own investigation and brought the true thief to light. Yes, they don't have the most exemplary behavior, but they are not devils in a child’s body, although at first glance one might think so, but rather noble pirates. I like that despite their unangelic behavior, Jim and Tim are determined and confident boys, and if we add in their cheerful disposition and optimism, then I admire

Ron's biggest handicap to being on Kim's level for competence is that while Kim's family was always there for her (even if on speakerphone), Ron was a latchkey kid. On Mother's Day he wanted to do something with his mom... and she left him alone to clean out the garage. So Ron never grew up with the same familial support that Kim did. Heck, when his parents adopted a young child as his new baby sister... they automatically put her into HIS care and vanished for the rest of the episode. If Ron wasn't such a good big brother to her, that kid would grow up just as neglected as Ron was.

Without Ron, Kim can’t save the world and without Kim, Ron can’t have his own confidence or his own shortcomings still matter when they shouldn’t. Plus he love Kim and if she is ever in real danger that will focus Ron and a focused Ron is a force to be reckoned with in fact in episode 2 'Sink or Swim' it is Ron who formulates and carries out an elaborate if a little Rube Goldberg plan successfully defeating the villain and saving Kim.
