You touched on something I’ve been frustrated about for years: Why is Warner still allowing Johns to make sure that the DCEU is built almost entirely off the stories that he wrote himself? Luckily, it has worked out with a few of these movies (e.g. Shazam and Aquaman), but c’mon! DC has decades and decades of narratives. I have to assume the reason Johns pretty much only adapts his own work is either so he can claim more creative control and ownership over the DCEU, or so he gets a bigger payday. Or maybe both.

Ill disagree on the Gun issue with Simon, as his initial ring was a glitchy copy when Hal and sinistro were trapped and sent in out as an SOS. Also, his story later became about letting go of the gun and truly trusting his potential with the ring, along with his concerns of whether he should have such power or if it was Allah's will as he has a talent for using use Willpower energy in ways never seen before or even though possible, like when Revived a family member from death.

It's difficult. On one hand, you don't want to make it seem like the generic stereotype of "oh, he's this, of course he would use a gun", but on the other hand, it makes sense to try to make a realistic story. If it's a good story, then I think it gets a pass.

Agreed. I hated they wasted Finn. They had something with him. Hell they wasted Captain Phasma too. She looked cool as hell but did nothing with her. i would have taken her back over bringing back Palpatine. She is tall, too so she could really tower over her opponents. Poe was also wasted and I wished they had done a better job with Rose Tico. Even Rey needed better writing. Wasted potential

Yes this. He is horrible. He is the reason for that Olicity trash and fridging Laurel Lance. He absolutely sucks. He had an idea where Mary Jane Watson is raped and murdered it didn't happen but that shows the kind of trash he is. Smith is not as worrying to me as Guggenheim. I personally found Dark Shadows decent not great but felt it was similiar enough to the show is was referencing which itself was over the top. i have no problem with the characters being used(thought John Stewart and Hal Jordan are important to have. Hopefully they will be the Movie version or show up in Season 2 or something. As for the Alan Scott I have no problem if they make him gay. But with Guggenheim writing that will be his only character ability. Look at Mr. Terrific. who constantly had to tell you he was gay. If you want a well written LGBTQ+ character watch Schitts Creek. It is treated with respect and you actually want David's relationship to succeed and not because of his orientation but because they are both well rounded characters. Whoever did the character arc for Matt Bomer's Doom Patrol character was also well written. Gay characters are fine if they are treated as more then a Token character.

I think that Alan Scott could be redeemed if they don’t fridge his boyfriend like Kyle Rayner and get rid of the tokenism aspects. Everyone loves his daughter Jade and I think that it would be awesome if she was his adopted/surrogate daughter. However if they wanted to keep him straight I would make a gay lantern either a blue lantern or star sapphire since we all have hope for the future of lgbtq people. The star sapphire one is a little too on the nose and more fetishized. You could also do green bc of the will it takes to come out etc. but I think that they should be a blue lantern. Maybe if they went the villain route a yellow lantern?!? They have the power of fear and a lot of lgbtq people live with some amount of fear so it’s an option. It especially doesn't work when one of Scott's main storylines is that he falls in love with a female super villain called Thorn and have two kids together. That hardly seems like he was faking it. They can even do a story where Scott needs to put aside his upbringing in the 30's-40's and accept his son for who he is. This is the problem with all you people who don't read comics. This sounds like a train waiting to fly off the tracks. Having The CW creative team behind this makes it a hard enough sell for me as it is, since I'm dropping all their shows after the last season for being absolutely terrible. It makes me so sad that we're finally getting superhero content in droves, but the quality of the creative teams behind most of them just isn't capable of doing them justice.

I think Strong can be Sivana and Sinestro, he's an alien under a lot of makeup in one character. Look at Marvel, with Gemma Chan playing 2 characters.

If I ran WBs Grace, I'd offer you the job of Common Sense Test facilitator based on this video alone. With so much at stake financially, how do they not attempt to consider the opinions of their target market? Its the disappointment of having the long held hopes of comic fans dashed and see their much loved characters disrespected by suits that don't realize what makes the profit potential of these properties so promising in the first place that could push audiences to that Superhero breaking point you've mentioned before, at least for hard core fans that know better. Love your insight Grace, you're the best.

Green Lantern can be such a great series of movies or just a series in general. So much lore and material to play around with in terms of the different color of lanterns. It just needs to be executed on screen well

The Lanter Corps are my favorite characters in the DCU so this show doesn't make me look forward to seeing them even on the smaller screen. In my view, John Stewart, Hal Jordan, and Kyle Raynor are the glue that holds all the Lanterns together. Even though my favorite Lantern is Saint Walker, a show without Stewart, Jordan, and Raynor just doesn't seem right.

Being a gay superhero in the 40’s means that the romance would be more of a closeted/undertones of homosexuality than actual developed storyline. Especially in this comic-bros universe we’re in.

With Bendis being sidelined, all those characters he created are too. With the exception of Jinny Hex, who was meant to be getting a mini but that was part of 5G so is probably also dumped

In the Green Lantern 80th Anniversary Special in the comics, Alan was gay, so it transfers; in the concept of introducing "a new character", I's suggest Terry, who was not only a GLAAD Media Award winning character, but was - at least briefly - a Lantern....you could easily extend it.

I was a senior in high school and still closeted when Earth 2 New 52 came out in 2011. When I saw that Alan Scott was changed to be gay that was a big moment for me. There weren't a lot of LGBT characters at the time. I saw his story as a tragic and really resonated with me as a gay person. I'd love to see this version of Alan Scott continue

@@mishoa1 Older gay men have had families and some men not being out themselves also have had gay children. There are stories to be told with many different perspectives. I'm sure at the time it took the spotlight but it was because it was an alternate universe version of the Alan Scott character. There are so many ways you can retcon the story now.

Geoff Jones's comics are the best representations for the characters thats the reason WB and DC are using those. I mean come on that guy wrote "Blackest Night", " Flashpoint" and "The Button (the Watchmen DC Crossover" only to name a few.

I think that a Green Lantern TV series for HBO MAX, with Damon Lindelof as the showrunner & producer, and Allan Heinberg as the screenwriter, with Eiza Gonzalez as JESSICA CRUZ, Marwen Kenzari as SIMON BAZ, Alan Tudyk as ALAN SCOTT, & Luke Evans as SINESTRO, would be more interesting, than, what is coming now, but, IDK? We will see. As far as a film goes, I still strongly behind a Christopher Nolan directed/Aaron Sorkin scripted Lethal Weapon meets 2001: A Space Odyssey styled thriller, with Cillian Murphy as HAL JORDAN, John David Washington as JOHN STEWART, Alison Brie as CAROL FARRIS, & Mena Massoud as KYLE REYNER. Or an Edgar Wright directed/Karyn Kusama scripted dramatic psychological horror space adventure film, with Bradley Cooper as HAL JORDAN, Michael B. Jordan as JOHN STEWART, Betty Gilpin as CAROL FARRIS, & Zac Efron as KYLE REYNER. But, that's obviously NOT EVER going to happen. 🤔🧐

grace, there is a lot more to why Simon baz carries a gun, the rebirth run with him in it made it work just like they did with Jessica. i think if Geoff johns is kept out of the decision-making process, the creative team can find a story that works for them. they might get a lot of backlash based on guy Gardner though, he sounds easy but it's very hard to write the nuance into his character that a comic book mind bubble would show..bottom line, the writing team doesn't seem strong enough

as long as this series is on HBO MAX, I have faith on it. If it was for CW, I wouldn't watch it.
