@@AtheistEve That’s unfortunate. The number of liberals in the Green Party is going down though, and the swing is very much towards socialism. Has been for quite a long time. Both with the number of Green socialists rather than Green liberals and very much with the policies. Pretty much all the young(er) party members are socialist. I’m not a member, but a close friend has been a Green councillor in Brighton for a longtime until the Greens lost the council to Labour recently. He’s a life long socialist. We met as student activists when he was a socialist way before he was a member of the Green Party. The first time that the Greens ran the council in Brighton, they had a liberal Green as leader of the council. And a lot of the party, and locals, were not happy in some of the choices he made. For example when the refuse collectors were on strike for equal pay for women. My friend who is a union activist was on the strikers side. Anyways, after that first period of running the council ( I’m forgetting the years here) , Labour we’re back in in Brighton & Hove. During that period my friend was elected ‘leader’ of the Greens in Brighton ( they don’t use the term ‘leader’, I can’t remember the title they use. They try to have a less hierarchical leadership structure). He then became the next leader of the council when the Greens were back in. The reason I mention this is because the reason he was voted the new ‘leader’ is completely because he is socialist ( and he had a lot of experience). This was quite a few years ago now. 8 or 9 maybe. The Greens have been moving socialist for a long time. And their policies/manifesto are very socialist. The party was started by liberal ecologists decades ago whose focus was only on the environment. But the vast majority of the members now know very well that you can’t have significant change on environmental issues with ( neo liberal ) capitalism. Plus, loads of socialists have joined the party, hence they have socialist policies on rent control, nationalisation, workers rights etc. Of course, if there is very little chance of a Green MP in your constituency , then you need to vote for whoever will get the Tories out. For a long time Greens have always come 2nd to Labour in my constituency. I always voted Green and only voted Labour when Corbyn was leader. It’s a very strong Labour seat here. But I’m voting Green. Labour are pretty much gonna have a landslide. I hope there’s some chance of one of the new Green MPs being from my ward. As people are very socialist here and many will be very unhappy with Starmers Labour. That got rather long! Sorry, ADHD y’know.

YT keeps deleting the replies, TLDR version is our centre right party carried on with the policies of our left wing party. Austerity and massive increases in illegal and legal immigration have ensured low pay and inflated house prices. The top 20% have gained, and the rest have seen their wealth halve in the last 40 years. Voting Labour will make it worse but voting conservative didn't help.

I have replied twice, but I guess an adult conversation is beyond what YT want to allow. The TLDR: version is our centre right party, the Conservatives were voted in 14 years ago with the biggest majority in 100 years and were utterly useless. In part because the Centre Left government that preceded them, the Labour Party, changed our constitution and tied us in to a lot of unaccountable organizations that have taken over the function of government. These Quangos and certain NGOs dictate policy and were powerful enough to bring down our previous Prime Minister Liz Truss after a few days in office. The conservatives should have fixed this when they were first in power and didn't. They have failed to do anything they promised effectively and will be destroyed at the next election, which Labour will win. Sadly, Labour have become more authoritarian and will move us further from democracy by appointing more quangos and likely a load of laws attacking free speech so we cannot complain about their pet projects, which will further harm the UK.

You know that old joke about the green party "Green on the outside, islamic extremist on the inside" 🤭

You mean the old joke you just made up?
@cornishsea5 ай бұрын
@akinwale_p technically, it's "Green on the outside, communist Red on the inside," but the greens are now being investigated for antisemitic remakes by its new islamist members 🫠 (It's not really an environmentalist party anyway, more vehicles for bourgeois middling Marxists and anti-science folk)

Technically, the joke is "Green on the outside, Communist Red on the inside," but as the Green's are now being investigated for antisemitism by its new membership (ie the theological extremist ones) shoe fits.. and it's not like the party's really about environmentalistism, it's just a vehicle for bourgeois middling Marxists with anti-science untones @akinwale_p

Greens won't build houses though will they, and they don't want economic growth. Hope they come clean with young people in Bristol about this.

Grabbing for Economic growth ( Just stats) is possibly the problem. Increasing house prices increases Economic growth but creates a housing crisis. VOTE GREEN..PLEASE
@edevans63375 ай бұрын
@@tomthac83 good luck finding a place to live then. Green councils are the absolute worst for siding with nimbys. Labour are the only party that will change planning laws to get housing built.
@AtheistEve5 ай бұрын
Until we refurbish our existing housing stock and ensure requisite occupation levels for the millions of domestic properties already in existence, we have no need to build millions of new properties that in turn will be just as badly curated. Look after what we have instead of relentlessly churning through resources. France built millions of new homes that stand empty. The UK does not need to go that route.
