Dude you are amazing to learn and watch. Wish you had a “spread sheet” on dealing with green algae”. I was never told that CYA lowers the PH. So now I know that I must keep my alkalinity at a 120 so I can bring up my CYA aka stabilizer.

let me explain, in this case we have a really low ph, we don't use soda ash just bicarbonate so it will slowly raise the ph and the alkalinity a lot faster. so when trying to bring up the ph I'm going to bring the alk as high as possible to kill two birds with one stone. we can always correct with acid next visit. you will have really nice blue soft water with the alkalinity at 120 but be cautious it isn't a every case scenario, Alk determines the ceiling for ph so high end of Alk will allow higher ph. kinda complicated but that's put simply. If it's a salt pool we're shooting for 80 Alk cause the ph already tends to be high. high Alk and ph will lead to scale.

Any specific brand for “Cal Hypo”? Is “shockwave” bags OK?

Yes the pre measured pouches will work the same. We buy our cal hypo 100 lb at a time so it’s just the cal hypo granular. It should be the same chemical makeup though

Yes bicarb will always go into skimmer if possible
