Russel, it's Chris (Buddy #3 I think).I've been doing smoothies every day for about 15 years. Started out 100% fruit, now I do 50-50 fruit and veggie. Here's a typical smoothie for me (also done in Vitamix): 3 carrots, 1 apple, 1 pear, 1 beet, 1 bag of greens (spinach or salad), 4 bananas, and about a cup of pineapple. The whole thing tastes like pineapple.. I've found about a cup or so of pineapple will make an entire container full of greens taste like pineapple..

It is good if you are using a lot of spinach, to use lemon juice to prevent the oxalates from binding with minerals and form kidney stones. There is an individual susceptibility with oxalates, but it is good to be aware and careful. Changing out different greens can also help as kelp is low in oxalates. If you are new to green smoothies, the fiber prevents the fructose from spiking the blood sugar; however, if your system is not used to a lot of fiber, as the video states, you can bloat and have intestinal discomfort. One way to get past the that is to increase your probiotics, and if necessary, also add an enzymes complex until your system becomes balanced. The bacteria in your system will feed most readily on the fiber, and their aggressiveness will also increase waste and overtax your system. One serving a day for a while is not a bad idea and gradually increase to a couple of servings as your bodies individually need.

There really is no comparison. I had a Ninja for over a year and just got a VitaMix. There is nothing you can't throw at this machine. I make smoothies with frozen strawberries and the only specks are tiny shards of strawberry seeds, but you cannot feel them.Spinach? Liquefied in the VitaMix. I can even peel a whole orange and throw it in there whole, seeds, pith and all, not a trace of pulp. You'll love the VitaMix!

The Vitamix 5200 is a beast! I've been doing: 1/2 cup unsweetened almond milk 1/2 cup acai juice or pomegranate juice 1 bananna 1/2 cucumber 2 stalks celery 3 handfuls of kale 1/2 cup blueberries 1 scoop Ultimate Meal (can get on Amazon or Vitamin Shoppe) It's fun to play around with different combinations and figure out what you like.

Hi I'm a medical professional and I've never seen a patient diagnosed with type 2 diabetes from drinking whole fruit, unrefined fruit smoothies. I think the general public should be very careful with the quality of the literature they read. There are no randomized double blind placebo controlled or even retrospective trials that support any of Tim Cats claims. Use common sense- a diet rich in whole fruit, low in unrefined sugars and fats is a wholistic diet. I'd rather eat 4 cups of whole fruit than the typical American diet consisting of 5-6 cups of processed foods. Always look at the quality of the news you read and look around you! You don't see type 2 diabetics that consume a whole food diet.

When people scare-monger about the dangers of having too much fruit because of the sugar, often they are ill-informed, and are getting two important facts wrong. 1: They are confusing juicing with blending. Blending means you are eating the whole fruit or veg, including the fibre etc. The blender starts what your digestive system is going to do anyway. 2: They are confusing refined sugars with the fructose and sucrose included in whole fruits, which the human body can digest and process without making the blood sugar levels go too high. In fact, eating a lot of fruit regularly (this includes blended fruit) has been shown in peer reviewed studies to significantly DECREASE/REDUCE the risk of type 2 diabetes by as much as 12% - journals.plos.org/plosmedicine/article?id=10.1371/journal.pmed.1002279

Looks great. Dinosaur kale is the most bitter type so prefer flowering or purple kale. However, apple seeds have a natural occurring arsenic so if it is occasional and you have a healthy liver no big deal but otherwise it is worth the few seconds to cut them out.

Hey you shouldn't give spinach to dogs. Here's what I do. Cook some carrots, brocoli, cauliflower, tomatoes and cabbage and put it into vitamix along with some kibble (for meat flavor and to thicken it). I also add chicken bones and stock and run it for 2 minutes till the bones are completely liquefied. After that its good enough for people even. I toss in some multivitamin and omega 3 capsules for good measure. Mix this soup smoothie with kibble for their dinner and watch them go for it.

A word of caution - Grapes are toxic and fatal to dogs - it doesn't take much either. Apple seeds and stems can also cause dogs problems. Also, generally, apples and some acid fruits can cause stomach upset for dogs. Obviously, the dogs size and how much they eat is part of that equation.Happy blending!

I keep seeing the arguments for vitamix vs blendtec and I actually was about to purchase a Blendtec blender because I had been hit over the head with the "you can't make a good green drink without a nuclear powered blender" argument so much that I actually believed it..... and then I decided to give my 20 something year old (family had it since elementary school) Osterizer blender that was like $15 back then a try and my drink came out crazy smooth so please don't be pressured into wasting $450

that is a good question. I think he does it to keep his smoothie content cool because the banana is frozen. He should answer that question. Maybe there is some secrete to it. Other than that, any of these power blenders can emulsify all that stuff at once in one blend.

Well, at least his comment was an educated one. As dr. google teaches us, apple seeds contain about 700 milligrams of cyanide per kilo (in the form of cyanogenic glycosides), so about 100 grams of apple seeds in one stand should be enough to dispatch a 70-kg adult human. Normally, seeds would pass through the digestive tract harmlessly thanks to their hard cover, but mother nature kinda didn't account for the blenders.

I'll just start by saying i've had the Vitamix for 5 years until i gave it away. Its a good product for making hot soups. Yes....hot. I blends at high temps for hot soups, which is why its so damn costly. not because you have to use a damn stick to press down spinach just to make a simple smoothie. I'm just getting the Ninja...the only thing im pressing down is a button!!!

Something I CANNOT do because I hate not drinking a smooth drink without clumps n stuff. So I was thinking about getting myself a Vitamix but since that thing is super expensive I wanted to ask you if after blending all those veggies n fruits are there clumps left over that didn't blend well or does you're drink come out smooth? Although it looks pretty smooth in the video I wanna be 100% sure because that thing is expensive! And I have a Ninja and that thing does NOT work! :[

The Vitamix is very consistent inconsistency and if you follow the directions and watch the videos that explain: put the liquids first, soft vegetables and fruits second, then frozen vegetables or fruits last (including any ice if you do not use frozen fruits and vegetables) last. This allows the blades to use the liquid to easily break down and emulsify everything into a very consistent texture and consistency. I have had mine for about seven months, and I wouldn't be without it. Great way to get closer to the recommended amount of greens, which very few get per day. Your body will thank you. One other thing about the Vitamix . . . the Vitamix family company is very concerned about customer satisfaction and provide a wonderful guarantee from stem to stern.

Very nice!!! I've been making a similar one but I get a little crazy with trying to get as many different greens in as possible. Love the fact that you give some to your pup I do the same! Just be careful you don't give him too much sugar cancer loves it. i read that you shouldn't store blended juices for longer than 30 mintues - the reasoning behind this is when you blend the veggies, it breaks them down and the nutrients are "exposed" in a sense, and must be consumed and absorbed rather quickly....i'm not sure if this is true, but it seems logical to me. Any thoughts?
@TonyMontana-rv2yq
@TonyMontana-rv2yq 8 жыл бұрын
I think you mean 30 seconds and it is correct, because of the heating die many important ingredients such as vitamins. This means that with such a strong high-performance blender like the Vitamix, you'd better not more than 30 seconds to mix. It is absolutely true.

Dieselworld, ive got a question for ya! Because I have a juicer ive started juicing just about anything because im not big on veggies. I thought I was getting enough nutrients, vitamins, fiber and all that good stuff. But according to a dietitian I was actually leaving a lot of the vitamins out and fiber because the juicer extracts the juice from the veggies and fruits but leaves out the skin and pulp. Which contains vitamins and fiber. She recommended mixing the pulp after juicing. :/
