Green Weenie, Beginners Fly Tying Series Episode 15, Holsinger's Fly Shop

This is the easiest of all flies to tie, the Green Weenie. This simple has caught thousands of fish for all levels of fly fishermen. It is said to be the go to fly when nothing else will work. This is my favorite recipe for the Green Weenie I’ve seen as a beginner. I tied mine on a #10 streamer hook and it worked well!

+Holsinger's Fly Shop Yes I also enjoyed the video. I fish crappie at a lake near my house. I've caught them on spinning reels, all of the time. Yet, I haven't caught any on my homade streamers. What color weenies work best for them?

+Nick Foley I've never used them for anything other than trout. So I'm not sure what to tell you but I'd think the green would work.

Caught a beautiful 10"+ brookie on the Rapidan river on a "Green Meanie" I tied. Beginner's luck, first time for me. Earned my "Rookie" card. Now, if I can catch a "smallie" on an olive wooly bugger, I can get my "Novice" card.

Good work. I started tying this bigger and without the tail this year and fishing it deep in the summer this year with a lot of success. For your smallmouth trips make sure you have brown wolley buggers to imitate crawfish and black for leaches those colors work the best for me for bass. Good luck

Guessing it's a streamer hook? 1x? Not sure how to ask that question without seeming ignorant. I'm thinking 12s would be good. Mine had a bead, and a minor loot tail. Thanks for the tips on the woolie buggers. Will be sure to add! Kish on, Cousin!
