🔷 ABOUT US 🔷
We're a DIY family building our "forever homestead" from 15 acres of raw undeveloped land in Tennessee. All of our content is family friendly and safe for everyone to enjoy.
In today's video we begin building our new 12 x 10 free standing deck on the back of our 1988 Palm Harbor Single Wide Mobile Home. The first step is to layout our string lines and dig footers for our foundation. We are using 12" concrete tube forms (sometimes called sono tubes) for our footers and j-bolts for our post anchors. Let's go!

I was so pleased to see that when your son made the suggestion to use the box cutter, not only did you acknowledge that was a good idea you praised him for it.. Letting them help is so fun to see because they want to feel helpful as well. Your teaching them things and making memories that will last their whole life! How refreshing to see the boys outside using their imaginations and helping mom and dad, instead of being inside playing video games as most kids are these days! I'm a single mom of 2 boys myself and watching your family is Awesome!! Keep up the good work folks 😄😉

Can’t wait. I just forwarded to my son and daughter-in-law (they just bought them an acre) now they want to build a deck. I was a single parent and my son had no help from me using a hammer or anything. He is 34 and his girl is too. I love them and proud. They are fans of you guys too. Keep schooling us all and thank you :) God bless

Love these building videos you do. Been there done that over 25 yrs ago. But i enjoy seeing others do it today. Brings back memories. Nice to see the kids playing, using their imagination making things out of what is around the house. To many kids today lack imagination, because they have cellphones and computers. Your doing the parenting thing the right way.

Near the beginning when Sam was talking, I was watching Isaac through the window make his way out of the front door wearing his boxes. I'm telling you, he melts my heart!! Then the smart one in the family comes up with the knife to cut open the concrete bags and said "I thought we could use this". I love when the boys get involved with the projects. They are learning a lot besides making memories that they can some day tell their children about and pass on to them while having them help with projects. Looking forward to the next video. Great job you guys (especially Angela with her OSHA approved shoes!!).

That's something I've been trying (and need to keep trying) to notice and fix... so often Elijah is eager to help and work while Isaac would rather play. He misses out on things that way, so I'm trying to encourage him to help me too -- not force, but encourage as "us time". :)

I also enjoy watching your videos and teaching your boys. My dad was a carpenter and when I was 5 years old he started teaching me his trade. One of the first things he drummed in my head was have respect for the tools you use. Each one has a purpose, remember that! I am 77 years old now and his words stuck with me all that time. The point, a level has a purpose and it’s not to remove air bubbles from concrete. I hope you corrected your son off video.

Good to see you letting the boys get their hands in. You're still using your level as a tamper? A piece of wood works just as well. A lesson I drummed into my kids was always look after your tools. I still have some of mine from when I started work in 1948. Without them, you can't work. Why not drop a plumb bob down from your string line? A good video.
@sam-and-angela
@sam-and-angela 2 жыл бұрын
Yep, using the level as an air bubble remover.. not a tamper. And it's fine. Every tool can have more than one use and still function fine. The level was repeatedly washed off and looks and works just as well as the day I bought it.
