🔷 ABOUT US 🔷
We're a DIY family building our "forever homestead" from 15 acres of raw undeveloped land in Tennessee. All of our content is family friendly and safe for everyone to enjoy.
In today's video we use a Bobcat E32 Mini Excavator to connect our driveway to the road, excavating and feathering our connection point for our driveway tile or culvert drain. We then use a 1960s model Ford 2000 tractor with a set of discs or disk harrows to smooth out and prep our driveway for compaction and gravel delivery.

Yep....more trees. (don't mind me, I'm the local, neighborhood tree hugger) Any of the folks around here take out a tree....I plant 2. My late father's prized Austrian Pine had to go because it was blocking the view onto the road so the kid and I gathered cones and planted as many seeds as we could. We came up with dozens of viable trees that now grace every possible space. Say, how about a small orchard? Can't go wrong with fruit trees. How about a black walnut tree? They grow big and beautiful here and I hear not bad in TN either :) I heard Angela mention trees and I sorta went off in a tangent. (But...that driveway will be the perfect tree-lined drive...don't you think?....but mind the water line)

Hey Sam and Angela!! Love the land and your layout. FYI..."poor" people are truly the "richest" people on Earth!! We work hard for what we have and appreciate every aspect of life, the sun rises, the sun sets, the precious time we spend with family, a good pot of pintos and a big pan of fried taters, if our vehicle makes it from point A to point B and how thankful we are when it does!😄 And we know how to truly laugh and be happy!! So carry on with your budget friendly ways and when you save all that money, it will help towards the final big home move!! I can't wait! Love sharing in y'alls adventure!

You've caused my husband and I to separate...temporarily. Lol. My husband has been a diesel mechanic for over 35 years. When he walked into the room and sat beside me and heard the purr of that engine, he said, "WHAT are you doing?!! Are you out of your mind? I love you and everything, but I can't sit here and listen to that!" LOL. I enjoyed it. There is something therapeutic about watching someone else work. 🙂

I'm not sure if you said this or not but I would recommend putting a heavy underlayment fabric down on the driveway. I think it would save you lots of money in the long run for maintaining the driveway. But I'm sure this video is a week late too so it may be too late haha. Either way I'm glad I get to watch a whole new property take shape with you guys at the wheel.
@GreenAcreHomestead
@GreenAcreHomestead 2 жыл бұрын
We heavily considered installing the fabric, but decided not to for a few reasons. Having the geo fabric below would never allow us to use implements like box blades with rippers, land planes, or other sculpting equipment. It would also require us to have a much more finish graded and sculpted driveway with crown, drainage ditches, etc. than what we have right now. Lastly, the cost for the geo fabric was just too much for us to afford. We're running very thin on finances to hopefully accomplish the project in a timely manner so we have to be very careful on what is necessary vs. what we would do if we had all options. :)
