This used to happen to me ALL THE TIME! 😞 To change this, I’ve started using the LOC+ method on my 4a/b, high-porosity, thin hair. I use a lighter leave-in (of the texture that she spoke about), a heavy oil (I usually use black castor oil), hair grease on my shaft, and ends, then my styling creme or custard. I haven’t really liked gels on my hair, but I think I’d use a gel for a longer-term protective style in my last step. My hair stays moisturized for at least 2 days, usually 3-4.

Same! BUT I use AsIAm jbco leave in conditioner and have found it keeps my hair moisturized for at least least 2 to 3 days. It make look dry on the outside but when untwist my twist it's still moisturized. I also do the LOC method then I two strand twist my hair and roll the twist up half way with perm rods, air dry or use a diffuser to dry. Unroll then untwist and you have a BOMB TWISTOUT!!! And my fine strands stay looking curly longer! Try it❤

The only thing that really helps my high porosity hair is henna. It's like a permanent protein treatment because the particles go and fill the holes in permanently. I also use mafura butter (which is naturally conditioning), Shea Nilotica (East African shea butter) and Muru-Muru butter which acts as a natural silicone. These help keep my hair 'intact', keeping moisture in and hair soft. Also pre-pooing with coconut oil or any coconut based conditioner before washing to help with hygral fatigue so the 'shingles' that make up your strands don't open up further while washing, causing more damage.

Henna made my hair super dry and brittle afterwards 😳 also you cannot dye your hair with regular hair dye after you use henna. It is permanent and must be grown out or cut off before you dye with salon dye. I know it really works for some people but just be sure to do your research. I wish I had known that before I did it because I really want to dye my hair.
@saludosalsol

Eman Eman the henna made my hair super dry and like hay. I had to give it lots of conditioning treatment to revive it and it’s still not as strong as before. I know this isn’t the case for everyone just make sure it’s right for your hair. Be sure you’re not planning to dye it with salon or box anytime soon because it’s difficult, you’d have to strip out the color and use bleach.

Wow I just figured out as well that braids aren't good for my high porosity hair. I would loose so much hair and have split ends all the time. Natural hair is definitely trial-and-error and I finally realized I can't wear braids and if I do wear then too long my shedding is worse!!! So I decided I need to stick with two strand twist or plaits that way no pulling and damaging my fine high porosity hair.

The things that helped my HiPo hair the most have been weekly mayo treatments w/ heat and monthly henna treatments. I know the protein in eggs isn't hydrolyzed so it can't penetrate but honestly out of all the expensive protein treatments I've tried, nothing leaves my hair smoother, stronger and shinier than mayo and henna. I have greater humidity resistance, less breakage & shedding, and easier detangling. They're both super affordable too!

Wait so my high porosity is self-inflicted due to coloring and over-manipulation, so does that mean that the damaged portion of the strand can never be nursed back to, if not a normal porosity (I figured that wouldn’t really be possible) but a lower porosity?? 😢 Once it’s shot out, it’s done??? If that’s the case I deadass feel like I’ve been punched in the stomach cuz I spent so long growing it. 😭 I FINALLY understand why some women can have such a strong emotional response and attachment to their hair and the different manifestations and circumstances around it that might occur over the course of their lives. I feel like it’s my baby, and I ruined it and now all I can do is patch it up every day and send it out into the world, and what kind of life is that? Sigh, well it does grow back so I may have to lip it off, and do what women have been doing for centuries, pick up my feelings, be patient, and grow it back. One things for sure, I’ve never experienced anything like this high porosity before with my hair and I’d be lying if I said it wasn’t more than just a little stressful and anxiety-inducing…leave the crib looking, not spectacular maybe, but it’s cool it’s presentable, and then an hour later, as I’m walking through the door to work, it looks like I got struck by a lighting bolt in the Sahara Desert during a drought. 👀😳😤🤬🤦🏽‍♂️

First off, you write really well. I appreciate that b/c I love to write. Even on the most healthy head of hair, the ends are always going to have a higher porosity than the rest of the hair. From what you described so eloquently, yours are a bit more high in porosity for the time being. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! I was checking out a KZbinr called Curly Hair Ninja. She is a hairdresser ("Professional Curly Hair Stylist")who insists that this information is all wrong. This is how people become confused and end up not knowing what to do for their hair's health. She says that porosity has been taught backwards from what really applies! She states that low porosity breaks more easily and high porosity takes a long time to dry because it holds water inside longer and can't dry quickly. I KNOW that what you are saying is correct because I have been following your advice and learning about my high porosity hair ever since I found your channel. My hair is healthy high porosity, low density and fine. since I've been following your advice my hair has never done so well. Dryness is my biggest problem. The Real Protein treatment has been helping tremendously. I'm just figuring out how frequently to use it. Again, thank you for your precise, scientific explanations. It all makes perfect sense when you break it down. This is why I limit who I follow and listen to. I look around sometimes just to see what some people have to say. I always end up right back here where things make sense!

@@motherspiders3913 If you go to Green Beauty's site she has the BEST videos on hair care on KZbin (in my opinion). She sells a product called Real Protein. The great thing about it is that you mix it right into your favorite moisturizing conditioner (I like Curl Junkie's Curl Rehab) and you end up with the perfect balance of protein and moisture. She tells you the amount to use based on YOUR hair's porosity. There is a lot of information about it on her site so you can learn about your hair's porosity and how the treatment works before you buy it. The molecules in the keratin and many other protein treatments (like eggs, etc) are too large to penetrate the hair. Hers is made with hydrolyzed wheat protein, which is broken down (by hydrolyzation) to be small enough to fill in the gaps in the hair shaft. My hair is high porosity so it really has been a Godsend for me. Her entire site has been. All the things I've learned there I've share with others and suggested they check out her KZbin site. I hope that helps.🤗

Thank the lucky stars. I could hug you right now. Finally some info on high porosity natural hair, like mine. I was born with HP hair. It's very spongy. It dries so fast after I wash it. I literally have to re-wet the other sections, when braiding. However, my hair does grow fast, and can get dense, with a healthy diet. Also, my hair hates protein. I do use eggs from time to time. Some of the natural ladies in your vid have hair similar to my daughter's and mine. TFS this!!!

I think it would also be helpful to talk about moisture overload. I used your videos to create a customized hair regimen for my high porosity 4C thin medium-density hair. I made 2021 the year of hair care. However, I used too much moisture as I moisturize my hair most mornings(I've been wearing my hair in twist almost the entire year) and only used a protein treatment of rice water on a monthly basis. Over time, my hair started to shed like crazy and I couldn't figure out what was going on until I finally realized, a few weeks ago(yep almost a whole year confused), that I had moisture overload. It's something very few people on KZbin talk about. I used the intense aphogee protein treatment and the shedding stopped immediately. I wish I'd known sooner not just the importance of protein treatments but also the importance of the moisture-protein balance.

I wish I could like this a billion times. I was born with hair my mom calls “like a spider web of cotton.” My hair is high porosity, super fine, and ridiculously curly. And One drop off water flattens it. I loved my hair because I could wash it and go, until people started trying to tell me it was from damage. The only time I’ve struggled with my hair is when I don’t wash it, try to keep it straight, or put product on it. Since moving to the desert, it’s been difficult to keep it moisturized, so I’m super grateful for the advice about protein I’ve gotten from your channel. Thank you so much. I wish you would talk about sulfate free cleansing for those of us who simply must wash at least every other day. My hair cannot handle ANY BUILDUP whatsoever. So cowashing helps. But I wish people would talk about careful and gentle washing for us wash and go folks.

I love wash n gos but I realized that wearing it out like that all the time I needed to wash once a week because of products buildup and those darn single strands knots and tangles but since I'm a lazy natural I would never wash once a week only every 2 or 3 weeks so I felt it was best to stop wearing wash n go and start wearing 2 strand twist which is more gentle and i can keep moisture in my hair better by doing the loc method then 2 strand twist

I know you didn't ask me but I use to use the apogee 2step protein the same way Green Beauty suggests to use hers. By mixing a bit of it into some of my deep conditioner. I used the same measurements. I actually liked it better that way. Less messy. I think apogee is a vegetable protein. Can't remember exactly. I think it has a couple different proteins in it. I'm sure a Google search of the ingredients will tell you.

Hi Green Beauty! I've definitely enjoyed this series. The answer to the giveaway question is: You use beauty from a blowdryer to stretch your hair. This, along with the scoop and spread method (sometimes using a little water to loosen up the sebum), allows you to attain full sebum coverage! You then put your stretched hair in comfortable twists! It's how I've started doing it too :) So glad to see you back :)

Basically just roll the hair in large/largest curlers, and let it dry overnight. I've been using a Tea Rinse after shampooing for about 2.5 months. Pour that big picture of STRONG BLACK TEA on my hair, then finish my showering before rinsing it out. No conditioners. I am still continuing with the castrol oil treatment. I'm losing less than half the hair I used to! My hair is recovering!

Hi! I have very fine hair and I use heat, I never have damage. (thats my afro lightly blowed out in the thumbnail) There are only 2 instances that I use it: 1. When I condition or deep condition, it improves your conditioning process results if you sit under a hooded dryer with a plastic cap on for 15-30 mins and let "heat" warm your conditioner and open your hairshaft, then I rinse in cool. 2. I completely STOPPED flat-ironing! They are ALL( ceramic tourmaline titanium etc.)flat plates are damaging. I use old school electric pressing comb, NO heat protectant, no need to trace with a comb and just use the back of it as hair goes thru. You can use some oil, I use grape seed oil before you blow-dry, not after. Oh yeah and I use the tension method to blow dry, holding the hair straight out and blowing it dry, half the work right there. Then hot-comb press. My hair looks straighter than those who use flat-irons, lasts longer... but i only do it a few times a year. Try it and they are like $25-50 compared to the $75-200 professional flat-irons.

Going forward, preventing self-inflicted will be the goal, but for those of us who presently have low porosity roots/sections of hair and higher porosity elsewhere, what do you recommend? Applying protein to ends only? I used a tea rinse that had mucilaginous herbs in it and my hair felt AMAZING. Mostly... my scalp went mad and flaky and my roots weren't too impressed either! Hopefully, it was just a case of not rinsing well because I want to do it again for sure! Do you have a video on flaking scalp? Are there any substances that react with sebum to make it flake? I wonder if it was just a hard water issue.

I know you're not asking my opinion but if sounds to me you have low porosity hair. High porosity is naturally dull if it's not moisturized and shine is hard to achieve. If your hair doesn't like humectants, it is likely low porosity. I have high porosity to the T and my hair does extremely well with humectants but if you feel you still need it I recommend blue magic although it may not be "green" or flaxseed gel. Lastly, adding heat to a deep conditioner for example won't do anything extra for high porosity because the hair has no problems absorbing the product! Hope this helped.

Method:》 Scrutch and Preen To get full sebum coverage》1st on clean hair you will do a blow-out then Scoop and spread before your hair gets dry...if dry you will use water based spritz with acidic ph. To start if on twist from ROOT you use fingers to message and warm-up your sculp, so that the SEBUM loosens up and slides out easier. Then you take down one twist at a time using base of your nail or tip of your fingers to scoop the SEBUM up and SPREAD it down to MIDDLE, remove shed hair lightly>> keep on scooping and spreading little by little consistently til full coverage, when you get to the END you fluffy your ends then you twist your hair back-up again.

You keep your hair stretched by scoop and spreading method; this is done before your hair gets dry. First, you massage your scalp using your finger tips You scoop the sebum on 1-2 inches of the hair closest to your scalp and spread to the entire length of your hair. Working your way down, you spray some water-base spirit to further break down the sebum on 1-2 inches of your hair. You Only use small amount of spirit so your ends don't shrunk up. And using organic oil applied to your finger tips to slide down even more. The process also helps to remove shed hairs. After this process you twist your hair.
