It's so frustrating to me how flippant she is about calling it diabolical... Jesus said to love your neighbor even if they're different from you! You don't have to like it, but the least you can do is show some respect and leave people be. Whether or not you believe someone chooses to be gay, there are people in the LGBT+ community who are literally born intersex, a biological happenstance that they had 0 control over. It makes me so sad to see them constantly left out of the conversation regarding transgender issues. And that they believe somehow these children or parents or even Disney itself is somehow pushing a "gay agenda" is absolutely mind boggling. "it was ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, and dreamers of all ages" all the mouse did was shorten it 2) my trainers encouraged us to use terms for kids that were neutral because you never know if the boy is a boy with long hair. They said use your eyes and call the kid by what you see. Princess dress = princess, starwars shirt = jedi or when in doubt call them "friend" because everyone is Mickey's friend at Disney. I have had little girls get sassy with me if I called them princess because they were actually a super hero and so I mainly stuck to friend unless they were in costume because why would I want to upset a child at Disney. end of the day it boggles my mind how people get upset over calling kids thing other than prince and princess when Disney owns half of all media so kids have the chance to be anything when they are at the most magical place on earth. When I first realized that I'm similar to that, I was considering also telling my parents until my dad said that her being bi was a fad. I waited until 4 years later to come out because I was scared of my dad thinking that my sister evilly influenced me to the queer side. But in reality, I have liked anyone regardless of gender since before I could remember. Apparently I would get in trouble at school in kindergarten because I was kissing boys and girls at Catholic school. I don't remember that at all and I wasn't even told that until last year. I think as a binary gendered person it's easy to underestimate how something small like an announcement can make a big difference. Once I hosted a trivia night at our school I said "boys and girls" instinctively but then I remembered to add "And all our non-binairy friends in the audience". Afterwards two non-binairy students told me they had never been included in an announcement like that. Yeah, when Disney does something liek that, it's mostly just getting that sweet press, but the act itself is still important I think.

A general policy of not referring to people based on gender might benefit everyone in the long run. "What if I don't know to say Hello sir or hello ma'am??" Uh how about you just say "hello"
@AirLight16462 жыл бұрын
It’s kinda hard for me because I like saying sir and ma’am and there’s no neutral version of those that I’m aware of lol but I don’t use either unless I know that the person is fine with that

@Random Username god “his/her” pisses me off so much, not only are you purposely ignoring a large majority of non-binary people but also you’re wasting space and my time having to read it lmao
@synchrai29692 жыл бұрын
@Random Username which tcgs have you seen do this out of curiosity? I can’t think of any cards with that in mtg at least, which tends to avoid using pronouns entirely at least in reference to players.

I'm glad that lots of cis-het people don't care about this change or go "cool" and move on but as a trans person this makes me really happy. Before I knew I was trans, I was so confused about why disney employees calling me "princess" as a kid made me so uncomfortable and that feeling sucked. I would've loved being called "dreamer" or "friend" or whatever wasn't a feminine word as a kid. I'm glad trans kids who love disney won't feel uncomfortable and confused at being called prince or princess like I did.

I think the issue is that for most people, that’s it. And they’ll defend fucking Disney and call that activism or politics. Then it just plays into what you consume is your politics and morals and it all gets blended together into culture war bullshit, and nothing actually changes. And those people are marks. Rubes. Probably see Lockheed-Martin and PNC Bank rainbow floats as a sign of “progress” and not what they actually are. Like, do y’all understand how close we all are to this completely falling apart? Think about it. I big corporation uses identity of marginalized people to make more money. Then that is used as fodder for these unhinged far right people and christofascists like we just saw try to attack an LGBTQIA group this weekend. And nothing changes. Really missing the forest for the trees here.

yes same! im fully aware they are simply doing this cus they think its gonna make them more money or improve the general public opinion of them or whatever but if it makes little kids that are so excited to be there already and looking forward to it so much feel welcome and comfortable? it's still a great thing and it makes me so happy even though it is absolutely corporate bullshit and they do not actually care. lol.

@@m1zumisaki I found that lots of my coworkers at Disney also identify with gender inclusive language so even if the company may just be "doing it for show" please know this is something the cast members are so excited to implement!!!

I get so annoyed when people try to use the excuse that “they’re just kids” as a way to cover their homophobia. - like bro I’ve known I had the feelings “normal” people have for men for women since I was five and my best friend held my hand everyday

I was at Hot Topic the other day and overheard a mother and her child that identifies as her son talking and the mother disregarded them when they corrected her and it made me so sad. I didn’t want to be creepy so I didn’t speak up but my heart broke for them.

If I was an employee I think I’d be incredibly grateful that instead of having to say all day long ladies and gentlemen boys and girls they can just say dreamers and just save a few seconds of time I don’t know I just think it’s more practical than woke
