As far a the battery voltage dropping when the electric fan turns on, check to see if it is a factory fan motor. I have the factory dual electric fans on my Firebird and the primary fan started to go. It would still work but, drawing way to much current. So much in fact it was melting the wire harness to the battery. I put in new GM fan motor and replaced the fan wires. About a year later, on a very hot day, the same thing happened to the secondary cooling fan. Replaced that motor, and both have work flawlessly ever since, with no crazy current draw.
@Greenlightfilming4 жыл бұрын
That could very well be it. I have spun the fans by hand since reading you comment and the motors seem to be "free", although that doesn't account for the motor's windings. It could be a bad fan, that's for sure. Thanks for the tip, I'll keep that in mind.

You used the wrong oil.. Its a flat tappet motor and you need to run Diesel oil like shell rottella T-6 because it has more zink in it for lubricating the lifters and cam. I Use a zddp zink additive also in both of my 3rd gens with flat tappet cams.. Newer 1987 and up motors with center bolt valve covers all have roller cams and lifters and you can run any type of oil in them!
@Greenlightfilming4 жыл бұрын
You are right, I have to give it to you. That's something that I totally overlooked! I'll add some of that zinc additive to it before driving it again. Thanks for pointing that out.
@HockeyGoon9392 жыл бұрын
Modern diesel oil isn't much higher in zinc than most regular gas motor oil. All the emissions on modern diesels has changed the formula. Unless you can find some specifically rated CJ-4(1200 parts per million), if it's CI-4 or higher (less than 800 parts per million, some times a lot less) the zinc content is so low it doesn't matter. Most of what's on the market is CK-4, the zinc has been lowered to keep the regenerater from burning up. Similar to the issues gas engines have with catalytic converters.
@HockeyGoon9392 жыл бұрын
If that 350 is from the 70s I doubt you need to worry about zinc. It's needed primarily during break in to treat the cam. After 40 years the cam is either good or it's gone.

Gm said the 5 speed was not strong enough. The belt setup looks wrong for that year. There are so many ways not to hack up wiring and do things right. Is this really an IROC or just a plain Camaro?

It was a real iroc that came with the 305 (LG4) and the T5 that was in it. At some point in its life, someone swapped in what turned out to be a mid 70's truck 350. I go over the whole engine deal in another video. Regardless, the car is an iroc.

@kennydemartini21694 жыл бұрын
Nope. You could still get a carbureted IROC through the 87 model year. 88 and 89 you could get a TBI IROC. In 1990 the IROC license went to Chrysler, (puke) and the Z/28 was the top Camaro, in which all were 5.0 or 5.7 TPI.
@Superkid7784 жыл бұрын
@@kennydemartini2169 I had a 86 IROC 5.0 TPI and I only saw some 85’s that were carburetors.. of course they were all supposed to be 4 wheel disc but they put drums on some of them too.. I don’t think GM stayed very strict back then 🤣
@kennydemartini21694 жыл бұрын
@@Superkid778 I had a 85 IROC that I bought new. It was the 5.0 TPI. My buddy had a 85 with a carb, and another buddy had a 85 plain Z/28 with the TPI. All 3 cars were rear drum. Rear disc was available on all IROC and Z/28s. All 87 and up 5.7 with the junk 2.73 geared 9 bolt rear were rear disc. Starting in 89 you could only get rear disc with the 5.7, then in 90 - 92 the 1LE Z/28 5.7 went back to the weak but better 7.5 rear with disc and available 3.42 gears. My son has an 89 IROC with the 5.0 TBI. In stock trim it ran a 15.4 quarter mile, which is pathetic, but my new 85 TPI cars best was only 15.2... We've since replaced the engine with a 383.
