In regards to why Richter left the monster hunting business. Apparently his short stint as the lord of Dracula’s Castle had cursed his blood making him unable to wield the mighty vampire killer. So he passed it on to the Morris clan as they were distant relatives also capable of using it albeit at the cost of potentially destroying themselves in the process. The return to Julius is because in the events of Portrait of Ruin Johnathan Morris defeats the whip’s memory of Richter removing the curse. So he sets out to return it to its proper owners.

Basically, a member of the family founded a small village in the area to live in peace and slowly but surely, people went to live there, driven by some mysterious force. Thing is, as Albus of the Order of Ecclesia will find out by studying them to find out why demons don't fuck with the place finds out that most of the inhabitants were Belmont or Belnades themselves. Past the events of the game, Shanoa and the church would pounce on the Belmonts and train them back again in preparation for the prophesized battle of 1999. That's where Jonathan and Charlotte find them.

When I was little, I thought of an OC who I simply called 'the monster hunter' since he couldn't remember his own name. After defeating an evil witch, she cursed him to become a monster hunter for the rest of eternity, completely erasing his past identity and his memories. The only thing he remembers from his past life is this encounter with the witch. As a monster hunter, he possesses superhuman strength, speed, reaction time, combat skill, and is very acrobatic. However, each of these abilities, as well as other ones, largely stem from his primary ability; adaptive resurrection. Each time he's killed by a monster, his soul is transported to a certain realm. Within this realm, a seemingly-infinite number of extra identical bodies exist for his soul to enter and wake up in. When this happens, his body will adapt in some way to the monster that killed him, and then he leaves that realm to go back to his world. As a downside though, each time a monster kills him, his appearance becomes more ugly and monster-like. However, this appearance is just an illusion and isn't his true form. Additionally, he theorises that this resurrection won't occur if he dies in a way other than by the hand of a monster, but doesn't want to test it for obvious reasons.

One thing that's neat about the Hunter from Monster Hunter. Unlike some of the others on the list who are much more existenial in their job, the Hunters are basically beacons of prosperity for normal everyday life. Take down one giant Sand Whale? You can feed and clothe a village, for months to a year on the one Monster. To top it all off, as far as my present knowledge on the lore is, literally any average Jane or Joe can get some training, pick up a Greatsword or Bow, then fight a dinosaur or dragon to wear as a hat.

Her presence was always soothing to me for some reason, and you can help her in her own battles against other hunters. Don't forget, the hunters from monster hunter are just regular people, trained people, but they don't have any sort of super natural changes like The Old Blood or the witcher transformation. They are regular humans, and in High and G/Master rank, they go up against Elder Dragons, Literal forces of nature.

Wrong on several counts: the hunters are all superhuman, and the elder dragons are specifically NOT forces of nature. They are intelligent and magical beings that, for the most part, irrevocably alter the lands they move into to suit their needs/wants.

@@marmyeater You're kidding me, right? Most Elder Dragons have weird and poorly understood biology, but *aren't* outright magical. Like, it's not explicit magic, just abilities real disconnected from normal ecologies. For example, the horns on Kushala Daora and even Alatreon appear to be tied to their abilities, as attacking their horns interferes with them, and Kirin horns are supercharged with electricity to the point that Rajang hunt them *for* their horns due to that. It's weird, I admit, but it's not outright magic for the most part. The "most part" part is mainly due to Fatalis, which is kind of the ultimate exception, and Bioenergy, though to be fair it's got a sort of consistency to it and is not quite the same as, say, DnD Magic. Also, no, they don't alter the land for their needs with the exception of Xeno'jiiva and Safi'jiiva (which are the same species, Safi is just the adult). They just happen to be so powerful, their mere presence can cause what amount to natural disasters, thus making them effectively living forces of nature. The intelligence part is right, though, but not mutually exclusive with the "Basically a walking natural disaster" part. I'll cover your second comment as well, and the potions aren't really a magical cheat that make monsters easier to slay and more a tool to keep you alive if you can't dodge well enough. As for the weapons, given you get the weapons with elemental effects from crafting them with *monster* parts (not just scales, but things like flame sacs and fulgurbugs), you not only need to have already killed a monster to get the appropriate effect with the weapon, you aren't using magic but instead effectively using their tricks against them. I can't really explain the Hunting Horns, to be fair, but then again, the songs might be more a morale boost that manifests as a buff and it's not something Monsters can't use as the Qurupeco proves. Plus, you don't send magic music to harm monsters, the music is just for buffs. You instead smack the monsters with the Hunting Horn of your choice.

I'm fairly certain that the real reasoning is that the whip became a liability to it's users, rejecting the Belmont's because of Richter's actions in helping nearly revive dracula. Meaning while those are factors, the main cause of the morrison's rise to main character status was because the Belmont's literally couldn't anymore.

Happy Halloween! Monster Hunters are a unique source of beings having them be hired to deal with creatures or sometimes they'll hunt them just for the thrills. I can think of many that will fit the criteria like Gerald, The Belmont's, MH characters, etc so this will be a unique list to see which hunter is the best to decide who to call.

Another point in the Hunter's favor is the crossover event between Monster Hunter World and The Witcher 3. There's a mission called 'Contract: Trouble in the Ancient Forest' where you get to play as Geralt hunting down a Leshen in the Ancient Forest. But there aren't any monsters roaming around aside from some Aptonoth (harmless herbivores), the local Gajalaka tribes (who are dealing with the Leshen possessing their chief), some Jagras being controlled by the Leshen, and a couple of Pukei-Pukei that got caught in the tree roots. If you talk to the Handler, she tells Geralt that it's because the Hunter is busy keeping all of the other monsters out of the Ancient Forest so he can work uninterrupted. So at the very least, we're fending off Great Jagras, Kulu-Ya-Ku, Pukei-Pukei, Tobi-Kadachi, Anjanath, Rathian, and Rathalos (and possibly the subspecies Azure Rathalos). Possibly even Deviljho and Kushala Daora.

People say Aloy is a Mary Sue, yeah, no. A Mary Sue has no fear and/or weaknesses. Rey in the Star Wars Sequels Trilogy is a prime example of a Mary Sue, along with Captain Marvel in the MCU. Aloy was absolutely crushed when Rost died, the closest thing she had to a family died and she was heartbroken, and when she was picked on by the other Nora for being an Outcast, she didn't do what Captain Marvel did and crushed someone's hand, she simply ignored them.

On a side note, I have been a fan of your countdowns for years and enjoy it when you put a new countdown out. I used to watch several other countdown artists over the years, though have since come to prefer you and Joshscorcher in particular. Of the two of you, you are my favorite countdown artist because of your dedication to the research you and your team conduct. Every time I watch one of your countdowns, I always learn new things or tidbits of information I never knew before, and I enjoy how you tie your research into each entry as you go along. If you do not mind, I came up with a list of suggestions for countdowns you could think about doing. Other people may have offered the same ideas as I am about to, so you may already be aware of some or all of them already. If you do not want to do any of these countdowns, that is quite alright, I am just throwing out ideas for you to consider if you want. Loved this video, Oscar, but I have a few nitpicks: 1) Warcraft is actually more based on Warhammer Fantasy (and in fact started life a Warhammer Fantasy video game) 2) Leon Belmont was a crusader, not an inquisitor. 3) The Morris family is a branch of the Belmonts in Castlevania. 4) Yoko is in her twenties. She was not born in 1999 (which is when Julius killed Dracula so hard he reincarnated). on the note of how demons fear Doomslayer, I will forever love the visible shaking in fear the one Revenant is doing when being forced to hand you the super shotgun in 2016. Hell the fact that a beefed up shotgun is so legendarily tied to you that the demons gave it a specific sealing chamber. And that's not even getting into how in Eternal the demons got Marauders. Necromancied versions of Sentinels AKA *the faction the Slayer himself trained with*. The Slayer was so badass that during one of his stints of being forced into a box, the demons decided the best way to fight fire was with fire.

Fun fact about the witcher author he's actually bitter and angry at CD Red as he thought he got all he was going to get from his creation and had no chance of being more popular so he sold the rights to CD Red for a moderate amount of money now that their game series has blown up and become way more popular than the books while also have increased book sales because people want to know the backstory for the games he doesnt make a penny since he sold the rights and has been sueing CD Red for royalties for years now. And my reaction to that is my guy if you had a bit more faith in your creation and had a bit more respect for CD Red's reimagineing for your character you might have gotten the pay day you wanted instead of being left out in the cold. Fatalis is the best example of the hunters nemesis since it will melt down defeated hunters into its our scales just like how hunters make armour of the monsters. It also has an eternal grudge against humanity, which is kinda humans fault, its home is an abandoned castle that it itself destroy long ago. Also fun fact about its armour, its still alive and will eventually take over a hunter to make a new fatalis though thats only what the ingame descriptions say.

An honourable mention I'd like to make (although I'm not sure it counts) is Legionis from Astral Chain. While not obvious, the Legionis does fit aspects of a monster hunter, just put into a sci-fi setting. They face down the corruptive influence of an entire other dimension, the Astral Plane, which not only sends monsters to our dimensional side to kidnap and kill people, but also corrupts the little remaining land humanity has left. With the use of some fancy high-tech gear, as well as LITERALLY CHAINED AND ENSLAVED forms of those same monsters, the Legionis is responsible for ensuring humanity's survival, taking up tasks of eliminating threats from the other dimension, cleaning up the damage that place does to their home, and even exploring the Astral Plane to fulfill the prior tasks, as well as gain a better understanding of it.

Another thing relating to the Monster Hunter hunters and a bit of Geralt. Geralt got flung into the Monster Hunter universe in Monster Hunter World, along with a Leshen from his world. Geralt can even save a Pukei-Pukei who helps in the fight to kill Leshen. After the fight, Geralt gives the hunter the ability to use Igni…which came in handy when an Ancient Leshen shows up! The World hunter can even fight and kill a Final Fantasy Behemoth despite not having any magical capabilities (even someone like Tifa can use magic). As an aside, I have my own head canons for my hunter across World, Rise, GU, 3U, 4U, and later Wilds. They may look different, but they share the same mind. After all, if I the player can jump from game to game, why can’t my hunter’s mind do the same? In particular, she loves the monsters that she hunts as designs. My funniest hc is that any black dragon cultist, who believe that black dragons shouldn’t be studied, wouldn’t think to destroy my character’s because they’re almost childish with only one section talking about something actually useful to the Guild.

Not to mention that if you have Geralt talk to the Handler during that quest, he asks about where we are during all of this. She explains that we're keeping the other large monsters out of the Ancient Forest so Geralt can work without interruptions. So at the very least, we're busy fending off Great Jagras, Kulu-Ya-Ku, Pukei-Pukei, Tobi-Kadachi, Anjanath, Rathian, Rathalos, and Azure Rathalos, possibly even Deviljho and Kushala Daora.

Personal honorable mention for me is the main cast from the God Eater series (tho if i had to choose one character, it'd be Soma) which is basically a grittier, darker, edgier and more anime version of Monster Hunter plus guns. The hunters must all go through not just rigorous training, but also be exposed to the very destructive cells forming the monsters they hunt. If they survive the procedure they get to be God Eaters, if they don't...well, that's one less candidate. And even then, losing their lives while on missions is VERY common regardless, so... But they don't got much of a choice, living in a post-apocalyptic world where humanity is on its last leg so why not at least try to keep the survival of humanity gig up for a longer time. Anyways, an underrated series imo, fairly solid plot, fun characters, and very interesting setting, overall a big combination of all the series in the list.

Hoi, Castlevania fan here.. absolutely loved this video but in case ya wanted to know, the reason Richter Lost the Vampire Killer was because he tainted his blood with Chaos. The act of raising the castle and trying to resurrect Dracula himself set his familly on the super lengthy quest of purifying their blood before the year 1999. In 1999 Julius Belmont became purified and regained the Holy Whip, and with the help of A large Army, The Hakuba Shrine Maidens, Alucard and the rest of the allies of the Belmont clan.. Julius sealed Dracula's Castle into an Eclipse and finally killed Mathias once and for all. Unfortunately this Unleashed so much magical power that anyone born around the time of Dracula's death could inherit some of Drac's wild out of control power. Until Soma Cruz awoke as the Reincarnation of Dracula and fought Chaos itself in order to retain his humanity.

I'd say the #1 entry becomes even better if you account for the Hunters from Frontier. Because that game starts out mostly the same as its mainline cousins, but as soon as you hit the game's third rank "Elite/Gou rank" they start throwing... more and more balls-to-the-walls monsters at you. Even the more tame monsters, such as the floral status-maestro Forokururu, or the Cave-dwelling Espinas-relative Meraginas, put pretty much everything from World and Rise to shame with how ridiculously strong these guys get. Oh, how about Raviente who takes over an hour if not two hours to kill with how much HP it has and the fact it can one-shot you with every move? Or Dhisufiroa basically being an Alatreon that forewent its Thunder and Dragon powers to crank the other elements to their breaking point? The G Rank exclusive Zenith White Fatalis can LITERALLY SMITE YOU ON THE SPOT NOT EVEN LEAVING A BODY FOR THE FELYNES TO CART AWAY!!! *_AND YOU STILL KICK ITS ASS!!!_*
