I used two 5 gallon buckets for my compost bin. I used the larva to give to my bearded dragon when he was a baby. I supplemented his cricket and roach diet with the BSL What I didn't give him I put in the bucket with wood pellets and kitchen scraps like watermelon rinds and carrot peelings, I didn't and still don't have chickens; but, if I lived in a place where I could, I definitely would. I live in Washington and the soldier flies might survive the summer, even though it is not very humid; but, I think our winters would kill them off.

Chicken psychology! I'm always amazed at what you can put together with the various connectors that TinkTube offers. Great design Tom!

Welcome back Tom. Good seeing your design and fabrication process on this channel. This is a great recycling project if you have chickens. New motto for this year, Safety first and science second. Peace brother

Chickens are so funny. I often find myself talking to them and explaining things to them lol. Great video and I really like the simple design.

It was a kitty litter box ... if it was EVER peed in by a cat it is amazing the birds ever even got close to it

Chickens are like cats - it's quicker and easier to leave them alone and let them figure it out.

Nice design! But how do the fly get in to lay eggs?

It was an issue. I made a modification later to address it. There another short video about the modification.

Our chickens would always prefer to scratch their food off the ground than eat it from a bowl. Strange birds. Could you do away with the catch-tray altogether, if it's going in a chicken coop?

I wondered same thing or would larvae burrow down before chickens could get them
@GreenShortzDIY7 ай бұрын
I think you’re both right. The bugs might hide, but perhaps within the range of a good scratch. Makes sense to let the chickens eat like they usually do. Hunt and peck. :-) Thank you for the feedback.

Maybe problem was color ... maybe chickens don't like blue ... ???

I think they were just intimidated by the new thing in the coop. :-)
