Same. It's always been so frustrating to me how I could hum the craziest and most melodically rich guitar solos to random music I hear (which is basically my brain putting my daily stimulii together), but then sound so boring as soon as I pick up my guitar. But I concluded that the bottleneck is just me never having sat down to learn those imaginary licks. But being able to create and hear them internally is a great first step, we just gotta get them on paper and get to play them on the guitar, that's it. And also, quoting Scott Henderson, learn from the licks rather than just learning the licks, which will unlock the ability to repeat these sequences and patterns on different harmonic contexts.

In my 35 years of playing, I’ve always been made to feel bad for not liking the blues or incorporating it into my own playing much. I respect the blues I just have never ever ever been drawn to blues as a style I felt passionate about. However, when Greg Howe plays anything blues related o am genuinely excited. Greg is the epitome of how I wish I could incorporate blues into my own playing at times. He fuses it all together so beautifully I think better than anyone else ever has in my opinion. I just admire him so much and adore this man’s playing.

There isn't a single 'best' guitarist, they're all absolutely fantastic musicians.

Maybe Im wrong, but I feel like everyone thinks the blues is easy but no one actually has taken the time to learn about what the blues really is. Im told the blues can become very complex and requires a lot of learning theory even though its based on a simple I IV V progression. Im not sure if Greg actually know the blues well and is covering it up or maybe he just plays cliche blues sounding licks.

And Im not sure if Greg is being serious or not as to whether he is playing the blues. The point I am making is that I think people should be more serious about what the blues is, since all modern music: rock, jazz, soul, etc is built on the blues.

I just think we are at a point in history where the last few great blues players are just a few steps away from the grave. And I think its time that young musicians now have to come to terms with what the blues really are, is it just cheap music we can forget or are we letting the real stuff become forgotten. Just about any rock musician thinks the blues is easy, that its just the blues scale over a I IV V chord progression. But I think its a lot more complex than that. So I think its time people like Greg be honest about what the blues really is, is he just playing blues-style music or is he really playing the blues.
