Love that picture/poster… it made me cry 😭 remember watching it with my dad and how passionate my dad was with both riders. But he wanted Greg LeMond to win

I got into cycling in 87 and rewatched that years tour countless times on VHS. I remember an Avocet poster of Lemond/Hinault that was included in a copy of Cycling magazine in 87. I still have it.

@@KnightOnBaldMountain Awesome! I was only 9 in 1987, but Dad was really loving cycling back then. Loved to see his passion for it! So glad he got to get overseas and see The Tour back in the mid-90s . Good stuff, good stuff!!! 👍🏻👍🏻

LeMond should have dropped Hinault, gained minutes. I have that GW poster. Brilliant.

There was no battle on Alpe d Huez. If you want a battle try the 84 tour when Fignon dropped Hinault

Alpe D'Huez, maillot jaune, combined points, Hinault, Lemond. Stuff of legend. Le Tour certainly provides the artist with a vibrant palette. The combined points classification jersey needs to return to the Tour. IMO, one of the most iconic jerseys in cycling.

Lemond should’ve won 1985 Lemond could’ve won 1987-88

Wasn't a "battle". Lemond slowed down for Hinault, per an agreement between them and the team. Just like when Lemond had to ride slower in '85 so that Hinault could survive and take a podium spot.

Hinault asked LeMond to back off the pace and let him lead Greg up the mountain. Seems like LeMond could have dropped Hinault up the Alpe but we will never know and have a great story and finish instead.

Greg says he could have dropped Hinault... I believe him... BUT it tells volume he didn't.. you just don't give the Alp away

1.* Eddy* Merckx* 2.* Greg* Lemond* 3. Miguel* Indurain* . MI is a nice guy but he was full of EPO. He quit pro cycling at the young age of 32 before the beginning of the 1997 season and right after UCI had announced they would run blood tests for amount of red bloodcells, an indicator for EPO intake.
