The Florida thing is related to the Miami house that collapsed and killed a bunch of people a couple years ago. There was pressure for that not to happen again so now properties get assessed every year because of the new law. People now are paying housing insurance and property taxes based on what there homes are actually worth now and we all know real estate values have exploded over the last five or six years.
