Great video Greg. I always enjoy your informative videos. I like that you showed different examples of the Nabal tree and showed a related variety. I do love Nabal and Reed avocados. I have a Nabal but its still very young about a year old but boy does it grow fast. Its probably the fastest growing avocado tree I have in my yard. I've been having problems with getting onto your website. I hope everything is ok. Thanks for all you do, great information. I have learned a lot from you about avocado care.

Thanks, Sam. I'll try to show different trees of a single variety in the future. I figured it would be appreciated.

Greg I remember when you did that video showing the effects of the cold damage on your various trees through out your orchard. The one that really caught my attention was the Nabal . I had always heard that Nabal was really tender but as I recall your tree didn’t appear to be more than a few years old and didn’t sustain too much damage from the 25 F cold event. I have a young Nabal that I will be planting into the ground this next spring. I plan on protecting it while it’s young.

Nice! Probably a seedling. Wonder if the weather plays a role in the fruiting. Kinda like mangos need that cold dry winter to trigger fruiting

I'm in esco NE of the 78 and the 15 so about 15 miles from the water. I have been having trouble with all my avocados due to the gophers but my Hass died from the roots being eaten and my nabal is struggling to come back 😔.

Anyone familiar with Julia's growth habit? It's a Nabal seedling but can't find information on the growth.

Hi Greg, is it possible for Nabal to flower around this time? I’m in central coast of Cali

Thanks, Greg! How old was that Reed. I’ve never seen one that large. But then I haven’t seen very many.

You're welcome! Unsure about the age of the Reed because the current owners didn't plant it.

Hi Greg! Thanks for your helpful videos and extremely valuable information. I think you're my only hope. I'm looking for some scion cuttings of Nabal and Gem . I have contacted different places out in California but no luck so far. Here is my story, we live six months in Jersey and six months back in Portugal. I have a few avocado trees there in Portugal. Four varieties, Hass Bacon Reed and Fuert. These are the only varieties available there.I would like to take back some scion cuttings of Nabal and Gem I know you have both. We are going back in April. Is there any possibility of getting some? Or two small trees. Paying for them and the shipping of course. Thank you so much. Joe

Can you make a video? Which type of avocado are frost resistance heat resistant? Also price by varities.. Oil content by varieties? Specially my area is humid sub tropic .. 10-38 degree normal .. but for some .. its under 6 sometime .. and 2-3 month it's 45 and more .. heavy rain .. ... If drainage is good then no water problem ... Mainly mango, lichi, pineapple, rice, corn, potato grow here .. little cold winter and hot summer but less hot then tropic ..

He has a long video on avocado heat tolerance which is well worth watching!

Where did you get your Nabal trees?
@gregalderdotcom3 жыл бұрын
Hi Eddie, I got mine from Subtropica in Fallbrook, but they are available elsewhere too. I have seen them at Atkins sometimes. I saw one at Clausen's just today.

I was told that Nabal produces bad tasting fruit in Florida so it should be grown in California. I'm going to prove that concept wrong. Guatemala should be more like Florida than California.
