disappointed my flavor king isn't fruiting, 2nd year in ground and it flowered profusely but my dapple dandy was put in the ground this winter and only held a few flowers and not enough to pollinate my flavor king it seems. I also noticed that the bees don't seem to care for pluot flowers, they largely ignored mine and just hovered around the rosemary bushes nearby. Maybe I should cover up the rosemary while the pluots are in bloom?

Super grade, I have in my collection. I'm waiting for the harvest !!!

as far as store bought (trees not bearing yet) I like the dapples the best, they are softer juicier and much sweeter. Sometimes when I wake up with dry mouth, a nice cold dapple from the fridge is so refreshing and quenches the thirst

I noticed that the color of your Dapple Dandy fruit is much lighter than mine. They look exactly the same except that the dappled parts are a dark maroon on my tree. I am closer to the coast in San Diego so I suspect the cooler weather is playing a part in the darker coloration.

Which one blooms later? My area is prone to late spring frosts, so I’m looking for a pluot that actually works here in zone 6 (southern Idaho). Thanks.

Sorry I'm late to the video, nice descriptive video btw, i love in San Bernardino county but are you aware of a dwarf dapple dandy? I enjoy the taste, just don't have as much room.

You could keep any Dapple Dandy tree pruned down to about six feet tall and eight feet wide and still get lots of fruit, if that is small enough for you.

Would these grow in the Tropics where there's NO chill hours?

Got me a Flavor King, might put in a Dapple Dandy this winter. Persimmon tree is loaded this year, I took off a plastic grocery bag full of fruits today in anticipation of the high Santa Ana winds coming up over the next few days. Wassup Greg, haven't been around for awhile.

If I already have several apricot & plum trees would there be a reason to grow these as well ?
@gregalderdotcom7 ай бұрын
I have apricots and plums, and I like them both, but I like my pluots even more. I don't know if it would be the same for you, but pluots are the favorite stone fruit of my family.

Hi Greg whats your Chill hours like, do you have plums for pollination
@gregalderdotcom Жыл бұрын
I have a single branch of Burgundy plum grafted into the Dapple Dandy tree. That's all. I don't know my average chill hours, but based on a nearby CIMIS station I'd guess it's around 600.

@@gregalderdotcom That is Awesome, I remember a neighboring almond orchard in Chowchilla grafting pollinator limbs on to trees in a almond orchard, however I moved

any idea why I see flavor king with both red and yellow flesh inside? does it darken inside when maximum ripeness, or are there actually 2 types both sold as flavor king??
@gregalderdotcom2 жыл бұрын
The flesh color does get darker (red) as Flavor Kings ripen more, but I've never seen them with yellow flesh. That might be another variety being sold as Flavor King -- there are many other plums (and pluots) with yellow flesh and purple skin.
@G.G.T.2 жыл бұрын
@@gregalderdotcom afraid you would say that...I put a flavor king in last year. I hope I got the real deal!!! (y-tube search and some are yellow) any sure way to tell without a fruit set? leaves etc...?

Hi Greg, how I can buy Dapple Dandy or Flavor King. I live in Lakewood. You are a nice yard I guess maybe in San Diego county?
@gregalderdotcom4 жыл бұрын
Hi Huot, Yes, I'm in San Diego County. You can buy those trees from a nursery that sells Dave Wilson trees: www.davewilson.com/home-gardens/where-to-buy/retail-nurseries-southern-california Or you can order them to be shipped to you from, for example, Peaceful Valley: www.groworganic.com/ Look to buy them this winter when they are sold bare root.

Yes. I am in San Diego County. The farther inland you are, the better they'll do though.

Greg, have you tried the Dapple Supreme Pluot? It’s a fairly new Dave Wilson Nursery introduction.
@gregalderdotcom4 жыл бұрын
No, I don't think so. I tried some new varieties at a farmers market last summer but I'm having trouble finding notes on the variety names and Zaiger gives so many of the pluots similar names that I have a hard time keeping track: Dapple Dandy, Dapple Fire, Dapple Jack, Dapple Supreme, and on and on!

Is it sweet like a persimmon??? (dappled dandy)
@gregalderdotcom5 жыл бұрын
Yes, Dapple Dandy is somewhat sweet like a persimmon but juicier.
