This is my favorite Allman Bros song, when Duane was alive this was the opening song. Saw Taj Mahal back then at the Electric Ballroom. We were both skinny back then.

Taj never was "skinny." He was big (I think his hand could have wrapped around my not-small one twice when we shook hands). And, 45 years ago, certainly he was leaner; but "skinny"? No way.

Taj is my kindergarten teacher's son. Had the honor of her schooling in the basics (ABCs and 123s), and music during school year 1962 - 1963 in my hometown of West Springfield, MA. His stepdad would sometimes join his mom, who I knew as Mrs Williams, playing guitar to accompany her voice and piano playing during music time after lunch.

@Anna Tariska Can't do anything about past posts, but how's this? :) Two4Brew is my wife Anita and me, Steven. We share the email account, and brew together. Unless you went to Main Street School in the early to mid-60's, which would means you grew up in the Merrick neighborhood, can't see how my identity is important. Our home was on Hill Street.

While we are throwing out the accolades, lets's not forget Jesse Ed Davis, who played slide for this track on Taj Mahal's first LP, which was released before the 'Live From Fillmore East' Allman Bros LP featuring Duane's classic slide solos on this song. Although Duane took the song to another level, you can hear a lot of the same licks Jesse used in the earlier track. In the liner notes on the Taj Mahal's Album, it states that, Ryland Cooder plays rhythm guitar while Jesse Ed Davis plays lead & slide guitars. And yes, Ryland Cooder is the one and only, slide genius, Ry Cooder. Jesse Ed was a beast on guitar. I had the pleasure of meeting Taj and he couldn't say enough about Jesse Ed and his skill and talent.

@@scottsharrard I did a KZbin search of Gregg Allman videos, found you, and finally one that identified you in the comments. You are a terrific player, not just technically but in your phrasing. To me, that’s the most important thing in playing...playing just the right thing at the right time. It’s what I like about players such as David Gilmour, Dickie Betts, and Leslie West. Their fills and solos are always perfect for the song. I’m 68 and really didn’t start playing until 2016. Now I’m in a band called The Spyders (www.TheSpydersBand) and we gig regularly, mainly classic rock but we now have 8 originals with a half dozen more in the works. Here’s one called Wild Child about an old high school girlfriend: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qaO6ioqoa8mpmck I’m checking out more of your videos and studying your playing. I’m in the Nashville area...I need to catch you live sometime. I go to a lot of shows at City Winery and 3rd & Lindsley.
