What a remarkable cattle drive!! They just kept coming. You must have increased the size of the herd. Congratulations on a tremendous year for you and Jan. With all the land acquisition, fence building and other improvements, to say nothing of the travels and speaking engagements, you have been going non-stop. Thank you for all the inspiration and dedication. With the recent election results we can now start to heal our country and help feed the world. My very best to you in the new year as we get to follow along and watch.

Looking good as usual. I don't think you could overstate the importance of moving cattle. Once a person has seen what it does for the health of the animals and the pasture, there is no denying it! Thank you again and have a wonderful day.

Happy New Year. What a beautiful site: fat, happy cattle running through a field of grass against a backdrop of mature woods.

The running calves are almost as cute as little lambs racing into a new paddock.

Love watching them run. Even the calves. We have 2 kittens we rescued, and they are just at the size they can run fast. Course they are playing and running and paying attention to the three adult cats. This morning one of them sped past two adults, waited, and did it again.

Thanks for the video! Our cattle were running around when we brought a bale out for them. They like to run when we give them a new paddock too. I feel a little sore tonight because it was a busy day sawing wood and cleaning up areas too. I stayed up around 1am on New Year’s Eve.

You can hear them. "Are we finally free Farmer Greg? No more fences?" "No, but you're as close to bovine heaven as you can get."

If everyone exercised like those cows AND ate no grain (like those cows) then maybe obesity would decline. Nice video.

Seems that battery went flat. Was noting how they spread off the beaten path while trotting and galloping along the way. This gets them out of the perma-trail and better distributes the impact. Takes movement to build muscles and more movement-running is going to help build more faster.

Happy Hollydays it was, New Year seems promising when you see them running downhill with so much joy, the very same you bring to us with your vidéos! Brrrrr must be chilling right now, don't catch a cold movie making unrolling your 2 years old Hay ! Best regards!

Still moving and grazing at #NaturalGramma Sure, I have 5 bales in rings and 5 unrolled waiting in a grazed off cell. I'm waiting to see if we get that 10-15 inches of snow this Sunday/Monday!! I've been getting lots of #aluminumchickentractor orders in for spring delivery! Papa Hank & Laura

Greg, can you provide more detail on the process of culling a cow that can't carry a calf through the winter? What signs are you looking for? In what timeframe do you remove her? Are you keeping the calf or do you cull the pair? Thanks!

There has been a couple horned cows in the herd since 2013. I bought a couple 3/4 South Poll cows that had horns.

What does your process look like on weaning your calves? Do you separate them from each other to prevent inbreeding? When do you sell?
@gregjudyregenerativerancher23 сағат бұрын
Our cows wean their own calves at 10 months old. Most folks wean them at 7 months in the fall.

Can you overfeed South Polls in the winter? I've been told if they get fat they will have trouble with calving.
@gregjudyregenerativerancher23 сағат бұрын
Our do not get to fat, heck they still have their spring born on them. That ensures they don’t get to fat. In the cold weather, you’re lucky if your cows don’t lose weight.

Where did the black cows come from?

We've had a couple black cows in our herd for over 30 years.

That exercise significantly contributes to a juicier steak or roast. As muscles are exercised, the moisture-holding capacity of the meat increases and the intramuscular marbling of fat also increases. And just like with humans, exercise decreases stress and burns off adrenalin. Stress makes meat tougher and take longer to cook, but "de-stressed" animals (like people) metabolize food better, sleep better, and in general, are much more relaxed. So not only do these cattle drives build the cardiovascular health of the animals, that exercise significantly improves the final product. Hog farmers will often put a step in front of their feeders or waterers so that every time the pigs go to eat or drink, they have to step up and down, which ultimately creates larger and juicier hams and shoulder roasts. Over the course of the day, the pigs will step up and down hundreds of times. In this same way, a sprinting steer is a juicy steer. If your cattle didn't want to run, they wouldn't, so it's voluntary exercise that ultimately leads to much tastier beef. Great stuff Greg. Happy New Year.

How do you get the cattle size down?
@gregjudyregenerativerancherКүн бұрын
Use a smaller frame bull to downsize your heifer calves that eventually become your future cow herd,
