I’m gonna start doing this instead of spending so much money on gesso for my paintings as I’m learning. I only started painting about three months ago and have MUCH to learn. My teacher is all about gesso but I’m not a money tree. She charges enough, I should get a small bottle of gesso after every successful lesson as a prize. 🤣

This is fine with a tiny canvas like yours. If you use a large canvas this will not work properly because the white layer will be drying out before you can get the other colours on it and then trying to blend it won't work at all. It might help if you use an extender mixed with the paint instead of water because the water is going to dry out much faster. However, we have nothing in the acrylic paint field so far as I know, that acts like the clear coat in oil painting which is a shame.

From my experience too much water isn't good for blending because it weakens the binder, making the paint lift.
