Very sensible , non partisan verdict by Mr.Valsan Thampu, Although I slightly disagree with your view point on the priest who was reprimanded for acting. It will certainly caution other priests , indulging in similar issues and could restricts questions on, why he alone is exempted. We cannot expect a 100 percent success rate in Metropolitan's cleaning acts, but at least he dared and , regained trust back to church. Our prayers for him for more cleansing and strict discipline in church. Thanks once again.

I am very disappointed that somebody with extensive legal exposure took a stance like this. It is safe to think that Metropolitan had extensive valid information about this matter which Justice Thomas and general public did not have when he wrote that letter. What comes to my mind is the case against bishop Franco. When the judge saw lot of details and lack of solid evidence behind the accusation , he made the right decision and it stands as it is. Justice KT Thomas’s defence of Bishop Stephanos is highly intriguing and one that’s not deserving of any introspection, coming as it does from a judge. His loosely worded letter to the Metropolitan has been pounced upon by members of the laity and most have found holes in his defence of a rogue bishop, disgusting. Bishop Stephanos did what he did, with complete knowledge of his transgressions and he was in possession of his full mental and spiritual faculties when he opted to commit those transgressions, knowing full well the aberrations that he was committing and the sinful aspects to it. A bishop must be not only “clean” and above all the transgressions that are normally possible by the laity and those not in power, he and those occupying high office must be seen to be clean in every possible way. Justice Thomas had cleverly and ingeniously added the Christian concept of forgiveness- and that too- for a man who defied every possible Fiat from the Metropolitan and those in authority- and is he expecting us to forgive those transgressions? Of what use is a judge, siting on the Bench- if forgiveness is the hallmark of every case brought before him? If parties to a case are to be given justice, then the principles of natural justice must be meted out to all those who are affected by it. Law cannot be used as an instrument of deviousness and allow criminals to escape. Justice KT Thomas, long years at the Bar and the Bench have clouded your capacity for original and independent thought. The sooner you ease yourself(voluntarily) from public life, it’s the better for all of us. Circular Number 55 can be faulted on only one basis : the lack of an upholding of the principle of equivalence- whereby others- who have committed equally heinous crimes- have been allowed to go Scot free and their crimes brushed under the carpet. Sooner than later, the crimes swept under the carpet committed by specimens like Rev Baiju Samuel and many others, who have destroyed NGO’s and other institutions through their inept and/ or deliberate mishandling, will resurface, and like Lady Macbeth, Mar Theodosius won’t be able to wash his hands of the blood that’s on them. It’s better that Mar Theodosius sees the writing on the wall and engages himself in the task of cleansing the church of its nefarious and un- spiritual elements, making a clean sweep of the stables (House of God) once and for all, and also by putting in systems in place, whereby every possible or conceivable transgression is stopped in its tracks by a system of checks and balances Instituted and administered by upright men and women.

This the problem with the Church and people knew he was unfit to be elevated to the position of Bishop and 2 time he was rejected but the third time he was elected in. So it was a know fact to many that he is not fit and many objections were given to the selection committe and even from Malaysia where he was a priest for 3 years. This is the problem with our Church and in Bishop selection or selection of Achens they will never listen to the people who sent in the objections but decide on their own and elect wrong candidates as Bishop or Achens. Then you find Bishops like Stephenos or Achens who will show gheir original colour and do things detrimental to the practices of the Church. I think our past and present Metropolitans are the ones who condone the wrong Bishops and Achens and thus spoil the sancicity and good values of our Church. They are the ones who had received all the objections but continue to elect Bishops and Achens no fit to lead the Church. So many unfit Achens and some Bishops who could had been weeded out but elevated and Achens ordained and they show their colour and tarnish the name of our Church. Metropolitans should had used their power and nip these unfit Bishops and Achens on the onset with the objections that they have received from the people. Our Church is going downhill since 2008 after Christrom Metropolitan handed the baton over to late Joseph Marthoma and it is getting worse as years pass by. A reformation is truly needed to weed out the wrong Bishops and Achens who are spoiling the good name of the Mar Thoma Church, This is the sad state of the Mar Thoma Church these days.
