as a computer tech, I've ran into this problem a few times. In my experience, a good place to check would be in the SATA operation in the BIOS. Make sure that RAID is disabled and AHCI is selected if RAID isn't supported. I've gotten that blue screen with INACCESSABLE DEVICE so many times lol, this has saved my life many times. It's not always the case, but just something good to check on the list.

Greg, I really love this series! I have been out of the PC building game since about 2005, and this series has been invaluable in gearing up for my new build. I don't know if, you noticed it or not. Also, Your series is Great! Believe me it is a pain when working on PC's that have "problem(s)" and i use that loosely because there can be multi-problems that are caused by just 1 thing! Its more of a lack of PC knowledge and common sense. The owner spent all the money to make it look good but didn't add fans to provide air flow to cool components. Also the choice to go with an AIO if you are not savvy enough to identify a pump failure is a bad choice imo. Also wedging the block against the RAM is clearly not smart. Their is no such thing as luck, things happen for reasons.
@SiliconPower74

@@MrNota500 Agree, however a lot of brands overlook some parts of the desing that could end up with issues like... Asus making those big VRM heatsink that are too close to the socket. NZXT with his nonsense USB. Microsoft for not including the IRST drivers that almost every intel computer needs. These issues are no challenge for a advance user but for lacking user, could be a wall that cant overcome

Might be best practice when working on a system repair to: first select "load default bios settings" (or simply clear the CMOS settings), re-boot, then double-check that the CSM setting is set to "off", and set to AHCI mode (instead of Raid mode). Raid mode setting should never default to "on". There is a set of DOS commands that may be useful: 1. Boot from the Windows installer USB thumb drive 2. Navigate to CMD prompt 3. Type "disk part" 4. Type "select disk X" where X=disk number 5. Type "clean" Note: for system data safety, only have the one target drive connected, so as to not unintentionally mess with any secondary drive.

@Mave-rick

Exactly. This reminds me of the transition from IDE to AHCI, Windows didn't have built-in AHCI drivers, so you needed a Floppy Disk or CD-ROM with AHCI drivers to install Windows. Neither Windows 10/11 have drivers for Intel VMD built-in, so before installation, as shown in the video, you'll need to provide drivers so Windows Install can see the drive you want to install to.

@Greg Salazar Hey Greg a couple of things about newer ASUS boards and the issues you were having. If you would have reset the BIOS it probably would have fixed your problems with the drive detection. The other thing you could have done is switched to EZMODE(F7) and turned Intel RST off (it is available in advanced mode but buried). This enables the RAID controller when on and all drives, including NVME, are under the RAID controller even when not set as a RAID drive. Most modern ASUS and Gigabyte (and probably others) motherboards don't show changes with certain items like drives until a reboot. If you were to turn off Intel RST the drive still would not show in BIOS until the reboot. Hope that helps if you run into similar problems in the future.

As good as the fans are, there are also those ugly bequiet stickers on them. I would definately put some black-cirlcled ones over original (or peel them off), because they mess up all the looks. And if they aren't positioned in perfect center spot, you have "concentricity error".
@luvingyouu

@@xsAMOR yeah that is true, especially the back stickers you see. I understand the front facing fan having sticks on it but I just wish they would give their own blank stickers included to put over the back ones that will be seen in the case. I doubt they'd want you covering the logo though so unlikely you'll get extra stickers to do that

12:20 my initial reaction the setting was on RAID instead of AHCI, this is something Dells are really bad at (since a lot of their laptops and at least older desktops) are installed with RAID by default. However some of the HP laptops I think are permanently stuck on RAID since there’s no option in bios I typically always reinstall with AHCI even though there are some commands to covert from RAID to AHCI by booting into safe mode simply because fresh install+I don’t want to deal with it down the road. Love to see this happen in this series

Good video 👍🏻, A tip, I ran into this when I was trying to use the windows recovery environment WRE, no drive will show up even though I can boot normally into Windows and see all the drives. I scouted the internet for months not finding any post or thread mentioning that. The problem is with RTS aka IRS aka IRTS, Intel Rapid Storage Technology. Even with RTS drivers installed sometimes you cannot see the drives. And Asus always tend to have it on by default on their motherboards. The solution was just to turn it off in BIOS and then your BIOS will see all the drives. I'm loving this series and im currently watching the entire if it.

Having recently faced this very same problem, I could have saved you some time. I too, like others in the comments thought it was a RAID issue, since I was transfering a drive that was part of an Optane Raid Array. Soon as I put that drive back into the original PC, it booted right up, but in the new PC I got the exact same issues you did. Turns out the fix was super simple. Turn off the stupid Intel Rapid Storage setting in the BIOS. Seems that if you don't have the driver installed in the OS (clean instal) it does not see it (wont boot from it). As soon as I turned off Rapid Storage in the BIOS, booted into Windows, installed all the mobo drivers and software, the problem went away. I could turn Rapid Storage back on in the BIOS and still boot without issue ever since. Also, like you, I had never seen this before. BIOS would see the drive, but any instillation software, and I tried MANY, would not see the drive at all.

I know how you feel Greg. With My Dad's older Precision T3600 I had to load drivers for the SAS ports in order for them to act like normal SATA ports into the Windows setup in order to see the hard drives. And With an older Windows Server 2003 server I had to load drivers for the RAID card or I would end up getting a BSOD via USB floppy drive. Very frustrating. Also very recently with the same T3600 my dad did some tinkering with it and some how his boot drive had a loose SATA connector and it was making his PC act weird until he restarted the PC and he ended up getting a BSOD with the same error message and it was caused by the loose cable it was loose enough to cause a problem but not for the BIOS to see the drive connected and after he plugged the connector back in it fixed his issue.

I've had this issue with windows installations in the past with new drives and found that it's easier, (providing you have another PC handy) to format the drive first and then install it in your desiggnated MB. I thought the case was way too white from the first, so you were correct that the be quiet fans would compliment it.

I've run into an issue like this before. But on an older system that doesn't natively support M.2 drives. You have to load an additional driver to get windows install to detect a M.2 drive on a pcie expansion card.

I've encountered similar issues with M.2s a couple fo times. One tool I use is an external M.2 drive enclosure. When I get a drive acting like this, I'll take it out, pop it into the enclosure, plug it into another PC, and diskpart and clean the drive. That's "fixed" supposedly bad M.2s a few times. You can get an M.2 drive enclosure for around $20 or so. Worth it as a troubleshooting tool, has saved my bacon a few times.

As soon as you showed the M.2 drive in BIOS but not in the install screen, I knew it was because of missing drivers. Had the same issue previously on Intel boards, once the driver is loaded, drives are visible as expected.

I just had this exact issue, along with some other small ones on an MSI z790 board. Super frustrating, eventually bought a new one and have not had a hiccup since.

90 degree adapter for the USB type c plug near the pump. It will free up some space, reduce the pressure on the ram, and you could get a white cable to let the whole thing be white and aesthetic.

Greg already mentioned about it, plus probably informed the owner as well. Now it's upto the owner whether they want it or not. Though i think AIO makers like NZXT should include those adapter in the box, for cases like this (they should cost more than $5).

This happened to me when I built my first PC. I was annoyed by the fact the driver was not detected (all the other drives SSD and HDD were detected). I made some change in the configuration of the nvme settings but I don;t remember exactly what but that worked. I am glad you finally did it...

Had a problem extremely similar to this where in the bios automatically places the drives into the raid manager. What i found worked was turning of the VMD setting in bios and completely fixed my rig. Still have no idea how that setting got turned on in the first place.

Hi Greg! Im having an issue where i enable the XMP in the BIOS, it shows it's turned on but when i boot up my pc it sill says that it's running on 2666Mhz instead of 3200Mhz. Why is that, and how can I fix that?

My buddy had this issue on his old setup, doing a quick google search on cpu ram limit it only allowed 2666mhz, the motherboard supported up to 2900mhz, but the cpu can't go any higher than 2666mhz. The cpu was an i5 10600k and it's ram frequency limit was 2666mhz. You would have to upgrade either your motherboard or cpu. (EDIT: just learned that non z variant motherboards for intel don't allow for higher ram frequency than the cpu limit.) Both have their own frequency limit, whatever has the lower frequency limit is the part you have to replace. I have an I7 10700 cpu and it's max frequency is 2933mhz, but my motherboard supports above that and I can enable xmp for 3200mhz. Due to my motherboard being an asus z490 I am able to go past the 2933mhz cpu limit; however your cpu downlocks your ram back down to the supported memory speed limit of the cpu

@TheBlueBunnyKen
@TheBlueBunnyKen Жыл бұрын
@@Splyngz You can enable a frequency past that limit if your motherboard is a z series, if it's a b series or h series you can't go past the max cpu supported ram speed. I saw online that even though you xmp to 3200mhz and your cpu only supports a max of 2666mhz it will run at that speed always. Example the I5 10600k has a max supported ram speed of 2666mhz, you can use xmp to change your ram speed to 3200mhz if you have a z series motherboard; however the cpu will downclock the ram back down to the max supported speed it's compatible with

We had this problem at my work place, We were imaging some Dell desktops with NVME drives, and we had to create a custom windows install that had the driver for that particular drive pre-loaded so Windows installer could find and install it. This is actually an easy fix really. And it's not bios related, at least for us it wasn't.

I had this issue when trying to install windows on my Samsung 980 pro. No matter what, bios would not detect the drive as bootable for windows install but it could see that it was there connected. I was too tired to keep messing with it so I dragged a sata ssd from my old pc over as the boot drive and just reinstalled windows on it instead.

That’s very nostalgic, I used to have the same problem on my old Athlon XP machine that was set up for RAID and needed drivers to be loaded during Windows Setup or it wouldn’t detect any drives The worst part is Microsoft didn’t even have a “need drivers?” button back then, you had to know to press F6 while the setup was loading

That was a common thing back with windows 3.0, 3.1, 95, 98, and ME to have to load drivers for the on-board controller during installation in order for windows to see the drive. Didn't think I would ever see this happen again since XP.
