Thank you for the video, It was helpful. I noticed that you have a sanitary tee on its side connecting the shower & sink to the toilet which is not permitted. On the 2nd floor you use a wye for the vent, It looks like the fittings were just used in the wrong place. The 3x3 by 2 wye fitting on the 2nd fl should be on switched with the one on the 1st fl. Then use a bushing and vent 90 on the 2nd fl slightly rotated. With your space constraints it might benefit stepping the 2nd fl tub pipe down to 1 1/2 also using a sanitary tee with a 1 1/2 vent 90 which gives you a tight turn giving you more clearance where you have space constraints. I hope these comments are taken the wrong way I really appreciate your videos they are informative and I learned from this video as I do all you're videos.

I have a straight down 4" ABS and fell the drop force might be too strong and though a slight turn on middle would be better - comment for you mentioned the part. I now consider my kitchen sewer goes above floor under kitchen cabinet (4" kick foot area), goes bathroom to merge to tub/toilet where are the only sunken area of slab foundation - I mean I don't pour concrete on bath sewer but leave small crawl or no crawlable space for them. Any suggestion?

At 5:30 the way you have the toilet plumbed in if someone ran a sewer machine to far and up that wall it’d shatter the toilet. It’s best if possible (and I understand sometimes it’s not) to have it where a sewer machine would travel up a vent stack

The wall behind the tub and shower valves should be bear . If you ever needed to change the valves or housing you would have a sheet rock wall to cut into replace sheet rock or put a vent . This avoid having to cut shower stall material such as marble man-made marble or tile . It’s easy for plumbers to get into the back and reinstall for maintenance any vowels or housing that need to be done they can’t be done in the tub or shower area . Always put shut off valves underneath sinks and kitchen sinks water supplies . This makes plumbing work easier for the plumbers with a lot less labor time .

You're welcome and feel free to point out the other 4 problems:) Some one already mentioned the roll in the wet vent, which is the only problem I found after making the video and will be making a follow up video to correct it. As far as the san tee, it's a combo sweep, but I would appreciate any plumbing codes you have on the 2- 45 connecters instead of a long sweep connector.

@montanalivin8248 Жыл бұрын
The current code states that the only clean outs you need are on waste stacks, kitchen sinks, and foot vents for island sinks. I would still install c/o's on washing machines and urinals. Bottom line, a readily accessible c/o will never be a bad thing. The more the better. Do not ever use a santee on its back. Always use a wye or a combination tee wye for a vent fitting.

@gregvancom

Yes, a 1/4 minimum is a good slope for all pipes. You should check with your local building department to figure out if long runs will be allowed. Most of the time they allow up to 75 or 100 feet before requiring a clean out.

The pipes are is being installed below the support beams which will make the ceiling too low, the minimum is 8ft. Running the soil stack pipes below the beams in my bathroom will make my ceiling about 7'5 inches at best with the sheet rock ceiling. Quick question ... on the second story drains, you run a vent by turning a fitting 45 degrees, going up a few inches, and then running a horizontal pipe in the joist bay to the wall before going vertical to the roof. Is this an exception to the no horizontal vents unless 6 inches above the flood line of the appliance, in this case the rim of the toilet?
@davidmarsh3750
@davidmarsh3750 2 жыл бұрын
For clairification, at the 7:06 mark you state vents cannot be horizontal, you have to angle it up at least 45 degrees, but then shortly after that the vent pipe runs horizontal in the joist bay to the wall before going vertical again. I would like to do this exact thing on a second story bathroom remodel, but not sure if it violates the 6" above flood rim level for horizontal dry vents? Thank you for any help!
@gregvancom
@gregvancom 2 жыл бұрын
First, I would like to thank you for bringing this to my attention. What I should've said is that the vent pipes cannot come off of the drainpipe perfectly flat and will need to have some slope to it. As far as the 6 inches above the rim of a sink goes, this is usually going to be the standard for any situation where you have another plumbing fixture vent connecting into another vent pipe. The vent pipes can be ran horizontal and sloping 1/4 of an inch per foot towards the drainage pipe system.
@davidmarsh3750
@davidmarsh3750 2 жыл бұрын
@@gregvancom Thank you for the reply! I am putting in a bathroom (WC, lav, BT, shower) over my garage. I have 16" deep wooden I-joists so I have plenty of joist space, and I would rather not drop the drains into the garage ceiling space. I am concerned with the local inspector citing IPC 905.4: "Vertical rise of vent. Every dry vent shall rise vertically to a point not less than 6 inches (152 mm) above the flood level rim of the highest trap or trapped fixture being vented." Maybe there are exceptions ("structurally feasible", etc) that I do not know about, but I do not see how the dry vent can be run horizontally in the joist bay and still be compliant with 905.4. I think I can either run a wet vent from the lav or get creative in routing and get vertical dry vents run until above the flood rim. The problem is having a good vertical wall close by, so the drain pipes may have to have longer runs than I would want to accomodate the vents. I am not a licensed plumber so I want to be ready for any questions the inspector may have for me. If you can think of any code work arounds for horizontal dry vents below the flood level, please let me know. Thanks again, and your videos are very helpful!

Hello how long can a drain vent run horizontally before going vertically up to the roof? Is there a maximum feet for venting.? Using 2” ABS pipe I’m not a plumber I hope my question make any sense.
@gregvancom
@gregvancom 2 жыл бұрын
This isn't an easy question to answer, because is going to depend upon design and layout of the other plumbing pipes. However, I think it's safe to say that as long as you're not going to making it longer than 5 feet, then you might be safe for practically any situation with a 2 inch pipe. Check with your local building department for clarification on using longer pipes.

@@gregvancom So the reason I’m asking is because I want to add a bathroom downstairs and there’s an exiting vent that runs up to the roof. The exiting vent is capped off about 20ft away from where I want to add the bathroom. I was thinking to add a sewer injector pump and connect that to the exiting 3” drain and run 2” ABS to the exiting vent that is 20’ away before it elbows up through my upstairs wall to the roof. I guess I can install a new vent but didn’t really want to make a hole on my torch down roof. Any thoughts on that? Thanks!

don't connect the tub drain to the toilet stack, that creates a lot of sewer gases from the toilet. better to rough in the lines individually
