Swedish activist Greta Thunberg says "we no longer have time to leave out the science," as she gave a speech at the U.N. global climate conference in Madrid - accusing world leader of “clever accounting and creative PR” to avoid action on the climate crisis. (Subscribe: bit.ly/C4_News_Subscribe)
Thunberg told the crowd that the world's rapidly declining carbon budgets would be gone within eight years based on current emission levels.
"How do you respond to the fact that basically nothing is being done about this without feeling the slightest bit of anger? And how do you communicate this without sounding alarmist? I would really like to know,” she said.

Yea. It is. I saw another video with her and it was the speech where she kept saying “how dare you.” I honestly thought that “how dare you” was helping her with getting to the whole point of the speech. Most of the comments said things about how she said “how dare you” and most of them were joking around. This is no joke, and I don’t understand how they (the people that commented about “how dare you”) can just make it like that. I feel that it is disrespectful to just make this all a joke. Greta Thunberg is just trying to help. She doesn’t give speeches to be funny. She gives speeches to help.

steezy Wills there are many who invent technology to improve the climate and find new ways to make the world sustainable, but in the end this is a global problem concerning everyone in the entire world yet according to polls in 2016 only about 54% of Americans saw climate change as a serious issue. Greta has illuminated the problem on a global international degree. She has in just two years gone from sitting alone with a sign during school hours to inspiring millions to protest in the streets and speaking to and influencing some of the most powerful people in the world. She’s not a politician, not a scientist or a millionaire social media influencer or even an inventor. She is a passionate 16yr old girl from Sweden who is aware of the largest crisis of our time and is doing everything she can to help the world and yet she is faced with criticism for no reason at all from presidents who should know better. Fundamentally there shouldn’t be anyone who disagrees with her. Ffs she is fighting and protesting for the life of the earth. She deserves nothing less than recognition. But of course that doesn’t mean others don’t deserve it too.

The truth is that greed is a far greater motivator than the threat of "possible" death/extinction. The balance is and will be tipped in favour of greed for the foreseeable future. My neighbour across the street has 4 cars for the two of them, a gas lawn mower, a gas leaf blower, a gas snow blower and they are business as usual but they have no kids to worry about when they pass away as I don't either; I knew about climate issues in the early 90's and my husband and I chose not to have kids, toughest decision we made but we are so glad that we did make that choice. The media sadly does not report enough coverage to inform the public. No solutions are being talked about, all the leaders of the world just smile pretty for the photographs.

Since the very beginning of her solitary movement back in Europe, the girl has just been trying to raise awareness of climate change in the political world, something which wasn’t done well before. The climate crisis is complex but it does have simple solutions, it’s just that they cost money and no one really wants to take an economic blow from it. Sadly, human nature during this pandemic tells us that we most likely won’t do anything about climate change until we see New York City underwater and the Midwest becomes a desert.

@beluga2857
@beluga2857 Жыл бұрын
First, a brief disclaimer. I fully support transition away from currently oil-dominated economy. But I firmly believe such a transition should be gradual, and should not cause a significant hit to our economy, technology, and living standards. Greta, just as her fellow teens across Europe and USA, enjoys unprecedented standards of living thanks to modern technological advancements, which, in turn, are based on uninterrupted supply of energy. She enjoys living in a comfortable home built with modern construction materials and heated with modern technology - which all require uninterrupted flow of energy. She enjoys a well-balanced vegan diet, which requires uninterrupted transportation of food across the globe by specially designed oil-burning freight ships with refrigerators onboard (you know, you can't bring bananas to Sweden by sail). She enjoys medical treatments that are produced by evil, evil pharmaceutical corporations whose factories - surpriiise-run on electricity. She enjoys traveling around the world by train or by sail yacht - which, again, are produced at factories and plants using energy and materials developed from fossil fuels. Does she even know that sails on the yacht that brought her to New York are made of Kevlar - a synthetic material produced out of oil using heat- and energy-demanding chemical processes? Yet Greta defies science and education that brought her these benefits. She demands policies-like complete ban on oil extraction - that she is directly benefiting from. If, by some miracle, she suddenly would get what she wants, she would have to move into a wooden cabin somewhere in Sweden, she would have to work hard in a field from dusk to dawn; she would quickly get unwell because of lack of modern medicines; and she would by no means able to sustain her vegan lifestyle. Because, in fact, this would move us not into XVIII century-after all, various steam engines were already up and running in XVIII century - but somewhere into Middle Ages. Why does she demand that? Because she is uneducated and ignorant. Because she doesn't understand what she is talking about. Because instead of promoting science and knowledge, she motivates kids around the world to skip on it. As a result, we have hordes of young people who demand immediate transition to 100% renewable energy, but lack even remote understanding of power generation or electrical grid operation (not even speaking of understanding why significant imbalance between electrical power generation and power consumption can cause catastrophic damage to a power plant within minutes). People who have not even basic knowledge of industrial processes their survival depends upon - like fertilizer production, or transportation, not even speaking of more complex things like metallurgy, mechanical or chemical engineering. People who have no idea what are the consequences of their demands. People like Greta and her followers dramatically underestimate importance of healthy economy for their life and well-being, because they have no idea what "economic collapse" mean. They were shielded from experienced that personally, and they are ignorant to learn it from education materials. They don't understand that if their country decides to de-industrialize, other countries would be eager to pick up their position in the world economy. They don't understand that the loss of industries would lead to mass unemployment and consequent impoverishment of working people; under-nourishment and premature death of millions; suicide epidemics, and rampant increase in corruption and crime for the rest. Economic downturn can bring as much death and suffering as a major disaster. When the Soviet Union collapsed and economy went into a downward spiral, the population of my home country, Ukraine, dropped from 52 million of people to 42 million in less than 15 years. Because of economic downturn, Ukraine lost more people than in whole WWII, and these losses continue. Compared to this, the all-feared Chernobyl disaster is a minor inconvenience, not worth of even being mentioned. In short - people hate Greta because she is unknowledgeable, spoiled kid who glorifies her lack of knowledge. A kid who makes unreasonable demands that, if implemented, will make many millions suffer.

andrew and meredith kw that’s the problem, over 30 years of failed predictions and nothing has changed. AGW is a tax scam. Here are some of the lies they have been pushing for decades. They jumped the shark with Greta. · In 5 to 10 years, the Arctic will be free of sea ice in the summer. - James Hansen (NASA) 2008 · Our Climate model simulations for the late 1980’s and the 1990’s indicate a tendency for an increase of heat wave drought situations in the Southeast and Midwest United States.- James Hansen (NASA) 1988 · Heat would cause inland waters to evaporate more rapidly, thus lowering the level of bodies of water such as the Great Lakes. - James Hansen (NASA) 1988 · In 20-30 years the West Side Hwy (which runs along the Hudson River NY) will be under water. And there will be tape across the windows because of high winds, and the same birds won’t be there. The trees in the median strip will change, there will be more police cars. Why?, well you know what happens to crime when the heat goes up” - James Hansen (NASA) 1988 · Amazing….Remarkably prescient when it comes to the predictions James Hansen made decades ago and how it’s played-out. - Michael Mann, Penn State. 30 yr anniversary of Hansen’s Congressional Testimony. · Hansen got it right. - Stefan Rahmstorf, Potsdam Institute in Germany. 30 yr anniversary of Hansen’s Congressional Testimony. · Hansen in that 1988 congressional testimony nailed it. - Andrew Dessler, Texas A&M Scientist. 30 yr anniversary of Hansen’s Congressional Testimony. · Snow is rapidly disappearing because of global warming and by 2020 Australia may not have any left. - Catherine Pickering, Griffith associate professor. May 2019 · It may be time to stop describing south-eastern Australia as gripped by drought and instead accept the extreme dry as permanent…perhaps we should call it our new climate. - 2008 David Jones, Australia Bureau of Meteorology head of Climate analysis. · Drought may be new norm for UK. - 2012, UK environment secretary · However, the warming is so far manifesting itself more in winters which are less cold than in much hotter summers. Within a few years winter snowfall will become a very rare and exciting event, children just aren’t going to know what snow is. - 2000 Dr. David Viner, senior research scientist at the climatic research unit (CRU) of the University of East Anglia. · British children could have only virtual experience of snow. Via the internet, they might wonder at polar scenes or eventually feel virtual cold. - 2000 Dr. David Viner, senior research scientist at the climatic research unit (CRU) of the University of East Anglia. · 15-25 foot rise in ocean levels for the United States. The nation’s coastline would change markedly. - 1979 Dr. Stephen Schneider / Dr. Robert Chen of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. · Because of a manmade global warming trend, world sea level over the next several decades could reach heights unprecedented in the history of civilization. The seas which have been relatively stable for the last 6000 years could rise anywhere from a few feet to more than 10 feet. Large parts of the gulf coast and Florida would be underwater. - 1983 U.S. Environmental Protection Agency · Sometime in the next decade Greenland may pass that tipping point which would put us warmer than temperatures that Greenland can survive resulting in a 23ft rise in sea level. A rise in the range of 2C to 7C would mean the obliteration of Greenland’s ice sheet. - 2010, briefing to congress by Richard Alley, geosciences professor at Pennsylvania State University · Entire nations could be wiped off the face of the earth by rising sea levels if global warming is not reversed by the year 2000. - 1989, Noel Brown senior environmental official at the United Nations. · Every prediction by Al Gore’s “documentary” (An Inconvenient Truth) has failed to materialize. Ironically it’s aptly named.

We can dislike maybe some degree of fanaticism in her, or we could maybe say that she is a bit immature and doesn't have her feet on the ground. Come on guys, she is sixteen years old, it is normal that she will not have such a mature point of view at this point in her life. But, there is definitely something to appreciate in her courage, in how she is taking responsibility and addressing these institutions. Instead of being a self-centered teenager, she is dedicating her time to work for what she believes in, even at such age. We could all learn from that.

Everyone watching this KZbin video knows there is great controversy associated with climate change, especially the reasons for it, if anything can be done to reverse it, and if so at what cost. While each of us is entitled to our own opinion on this subject I am convinced that no one is likely to change the mind of another simply by preaching their gospel or by beating that person over the head. So that brings us to what we each can do to talk about climate change in a responsible and respectful manner. IMHO I think that regardless of one's position on the climate controversy it is worthwhile to examine the current impacts of climate change (no matter what the cause, manmade or otherwise). This may be less controversial than the causes of climate change or methods to abate it. These climate changes include rising seas levels due to ice melting at the poles, shifting of coastal landscapes, more frequent and violent storms due to warming of ocean temperatures, extended periods of drought and flooding, and many other measurable impacts. As always, education is the key to understanding and being able to intelligently talk about this subject. Learning through reading about the subject, even reading fiction (some would claim climate change is fiction), can lower the temperature and make people more open to discussion of what is actually factual and measurable and what is just conjecture . Of course there are many articles and books on the environmental impact of climate change, both science and science fiction based, so we should all read. If reading fiction is your escape then may I suggest "Seeds of Our Future" on Amazon and others like it. No matter how we become educated however if we want meaningful discussion of this subject we should start by addressing the effects of climate change even if we cannot agree on the causes or about solutions to stem or reverse the changes.

Climate change is real but it has been happening since mankind evolved or even before that. It will warm up and cool down we cant do anything about it except for reusing water and things like that. We should be worrying more about our oceans and stop using plastic. Thank you for reading my name is Jessica swain and I am 12 years old.

I am twelve years old as well and I know that in the 1980’s they didn’t have the technology or the knowledge that we know now back then that could of just been a predicament but now that fires are happening sea levels are rising and the ozone layer is crumbling. The ozone layer is what protects us from the sun and take thousands of years to heal. In that amount or time including pollution would take even longer in that period of time humans will start becoming instinct from lack of resources and fresh air due to air pollution and due to overpopulation and if you think we can start eating other types of animal we couldn’t because they would become extinct before we do because they’re already 41416 animals that are endangered because of pollution. The earth has never been in a crisis like this created by Man U may think volcanoes earthquakes and other natural disasters are worse but the earth was built to deal with that it was not built for the pollution that we have caused. All this nonsense saying that the earth can handle it is not true we have been on this earth for only 00.009% of the time that earth has been living and look what we have already caused. This is a real crisis that we should take seriously and try and stop before it’s too late

@@dineomuganda6376 I respect you for taking the time to comment that. But there are things that are false and they aren't as bad as they are made out to be. I do agree that climate change is a thing, but one thing people seemed to ignore is that most of the fires in Australia right now are not Bush fires. 183 people were arrested for starting fires in Australia. Now I know this doesn't prove much but it proves my point. Things are not as bad as they are made out to be. I think what we should focus out more is our wildlife and our sea, we also need to reduce, reuse and recycle. Climate change is more so a natural cause and if the world is overpopulated there is nothing we can really do, except make everyone who is pregnant get an abortion or start killing everyone and everything. But that would make humans and every other living creature go extinct.

Jessie lolly thank you for answering seriously and yes many fires where cased by humans but not all where on purpose a lot of fires where lit either due to the embers or ashes from the other fires and from accidents such as a cars gas catching on fire or electrical ropes falling and also catching on fire. As well as the fact that your right about plastic and the fires, you also need to remember the’re other things damaging the earth that is far more worse that will wipe us out before we can start a big cleaning impact. We should stop using plastic all together but it’s not the time to clean up yet we need to end air pollution so we don’t have to wear masks while cleaning the ocean. Or we need to fix the global warming crisis so we aren’t sweating when we are picking plastic from the ocean. I get your point but plastic isn’t the only pollution.

But I wish they would because not only do our conversations show that we are both giving each other a lot of respect, but it shows that 2 people can have different opinions and still have a calm and non-opinionated conversation. The thing about climate change is that the whole situation has caused an outburst of rage and hate for one another. I think we (as humans) need to work together to make our earth a better place for everyone and everything. The hate and rage is unreal between everyone and so think that we need to get over it. I also think that electric cars are a good Idea for the future. Would you possibly like to be friends? Do you have any social medias or anything ❤

Something quite wrong is building regulations... Here in the UK someone can buy a log cabin to live in as a holiday home. All natural materials, it's sustainable etc. but if it doesn't meet certain requirements (I'm not sure exactly what these are) then that person isn't aloud to live in their property permanently... if it's not fit to live in permanently, then it's not fit to live in at all. So pre-fab companies offer what looks exactly the same building only it will cost an extra £10k, £20k depending on the size of the model. If someone wants to go green, they don't want a brick house which is more expensive to build, it's not thermally efficient so there's a higher carbon footprint in running costs, as well as building it in the first place... Why should someone have to pay tens of thousands more for one log house that looks the same as another? They've already done a good thing by choosing a greener option and as I've pointed out already, the one that they won't be permitted to live in permanently is actually ok to live in for a certain amount of time - just not all the time 🤔
