I cannot praise enough Sam Kiszka's organ playing. While he is typically playing bass guitar, he demonstrates a mastery of the Hammond Organ, including the use of the bass pedals, that unparalleled by most modern musicians. As a former organist, I can tell you that playing pedals in addition to the two manuals adds a level of difficulty that most musicians will never experience. Phenomenal!

Greta Van Fleet are really amazing. At the very first second you hear that voice and you know exactly who is singing. That's a very rare thing in todays mainstream music industry and a very high grade to this very awesome band. Also, a lot of people complain about them being a copy of Led Zeppelin, but I love that we have a newer band that reminds me of the music I grew up with. No autotune, just real people with real instruments.

@@digibirder Agree there. A Freak here who remembers the good, the not so good, and the revelation that has become Marillion as they went from almost being Fish's backing group to being a proper group with h and being allowed to expand in their musicality. Saw them in Aylesbury last September. I was a teen in the '70's (still the best decade, ahem) and was heavily into Heavy/Prog Rock. Only recently (last decade or so) have started to listen to newer, different stuff. Discovered Nightwish just before Tarja was fired, love me some Taylor and that's both of them ! Momsen and Swift. Have really diversified in my dotage. Loving The Pretty Reckless, definitely a self declared Swiftie and I love Gabrielle Aplin too. To be frank, they USED TO be a copy of LZ on their first EPs, but on both of their LPs they sound way more authentic and show a much wider range of influences while adding a lot of their own style and charm. But they make the sound their own, and it doesn't come off as hackneyed, nor cheezy. They're doing the music and vocals right, the set construction, costuming, lighting, and even the camera framing / angles / movement are right for the era. Kudos. Hi sunshine. I am so happy you are doing Greta Van Fleet. I have been a fan of theirs since the beginning. They are from Frankenmuth in mid-Michigan. I live just south of them. I saw them locally when they only had like 7 songs and when they finally went to Detroit they were told, Go home write more songs and we'll see. I had to laugh when you thought they were girls. The name came from an older lady that lives in the same town. Keep Listening. I love love love what you do. Your reactions are just so wonderful and I enjoy them so very much. YOu are wonderful. I found you when you were doing Led Zeppelin songs. That is MY band. I will be 70 this year and I was there when LZ came out. They stopped me in my tracks. I thought, Who is that, and What is that I hear. For me, I think LZ changed Music history. Even today they are still influencing bands and music. everywhere. I feel I grew up in the greatest time of music history. And to think that the 3 greatest guitarists came from the same band. The Yardbirds. And No, I have not forgotten Randy Roads. I still cry when I think of him and what he would have done if he had lived a longer life. Thank you again for what you do. If I may, I love you. I've been a music nut all my life. I even listened to Opera when I was in junior high school. I was hungry for music of all kinds. But R&R is my life. I hope you never stop. Me, I still listen to LZ every day of my life. I can not get enough of them. And I just adore your critics of music. Oh, and the singer for GVF, him and his brother guitar player are twins, and the bass player is a brother too, Younger. He said, He never knew he could sing. And the way he found out was, they asked who is the loudest, and he won. Said he had to sing loud to be heard over the band. lol Good ole, Gibson SG's and a Fender Twin Reverb, and a stack of 12-inch speakers. lol

I saw an interview with Josh where the interviewer asked him to give some advice to his fans. His advice was "Fuck fear. Live your legend through the intelligence of love." I think he & his bandmates follow this advice. I think they are incredible & I get irritated when I hear people comparing them to other bands. If you do a deep dive, you will find that these guys are genuinely "their own" band. If they have a similar sound, it is completely unintentional.

So glad you've found and are enjoying Greta Van Fleet! "Age of Man," "Light My Love," and "Weight of Dreams" are all great examples of Josh's range and vocal strength. I just saw them live, and towards the end of the set list when they played "Weight of Dreams," I was floored that Josh didn't skimp on the long holds as the song crescendoed. After the whole concert, he still had gas in the tank.

That lighting is pure Queen...Bohemian Rhapsody era and the vocal is a young, slightly cleaner Geddy Lee. And yet, they are distinct and original. What a combination. Excellent.

One more thing, holding down a bunch of keys on the lower section of a Hammond Organ is how you get the Hammond Growl - it sounds somewhat like a motorcycle revving. Check out the original Styx II recording of Lady and you will hear Dennis doing that Hammond growl that is missing from the live or remake. Jon Lord in Deep Purple did that regularly - it was very clear in Hush.

I saw them back on november and the EASE that Josh sings with is just jaw dropping. The best live voice I've heard ever. So clear and bright. In this video he sounds a tiny bit raspy, which wasn't when I saw them. He is one hell of a vocalist and I love how Elisabeth reacts and aknowledges his talent ❤❤

First time I heard Greta Van Fleet I was blown away by how the voice was another musical instrument. Loved that. Later I saw an interview of the band where Josh said he "played voice" and the rest of the band mocked him -- but that was exactly right, exactly what so impressed me. He is "playing voice."

i love your commentary because this is exactly what I was feeling, the organ, since I had some time to play an organ at my leisure (many years ago) and recognized in my adult years the potential of this instrument and hearing them utilize it so well, with the drums and subtle guitar opening...love it...I'm literally geeking out the same way you are and I love that! total vibes! Literally though, every thought I had you communicated!

Recently discovered your videos and have just been binging them for the past day or two! I'm not even a career singer or anything, I do play guitar and love to sing (whether it's very good or not haha), but listening to you analyze these singers, a lot of which are from bands I've been listening to for years (Disturbed, Avenged Sevenfold, SOAD) has just given me a whole new level of appreciation for their artistry. There are multiple layers of intent, technique, and purpose behind these vocalists that I never even considered, and listening to you break down their styles and techniques is helping me get an even deeper love for music overall. It's also helping pick up minor tips here and there on things that could help me improve my singing a little bit as well! Thank you for loving and respecting the music so much, and helping me do the same!

They are a really unique and creative band. And Josh's voice is truly amazing. I can understand some of the comparison to Robert Plant and the band to Led Zepplin, but they're to distinctly different vocalist and bands with some similar qualities. I didn't realize that he was actually yodelling during the song. So cool! I'm glad you're really getting into them. I look forward to more of your deep dive into them.
