@@Karnalaura my guess is that the statue represents the earth as it was beautiful until the age of man destroyed it relentlessly, while it showed things like oil rigs which destroy the earth.

Laura Karna to me a big one is hyper analysing the statue, something that’s considered to be priceless and perfect. It’s about how the “age of machine” takes humans, the planet, animals etc and scrutinises them to the point that it’s so disturbing in any other situation, like this.
@ShelbyIvey13
@ShelbyIvey13 3 жыл бұрын
I interpret the statue as something that represents organic talent, not created with the use of technology. Sculpted from an image from someone's mind, with just their hands and simple tools. Destroying it is a metaphor for us destroying our minds by becoming hypnotized by the technology that we have all become so reliant on. Some will never take the time to set their phones aside and explore their own ideologies and creativity and will never know what they are capable of without those things. The same metaphor can be applied to the Earth and it's environment and ecosystems. We are taking our pure and organic planet and ruining it with machinery.

Literally. Apparently we live in a time where drawing inspiration from another artist is deemed ripping them off. If that were the case plenty of other bands would have never been successful. An example of another older band drawing a lot of inspiration from Led Zeppelin ; Heart. They've actually stated they love Led Zeppelin's specific sound and have even had mandolins on their tracks just like Zeppelin did. No-one ever complained about that! I feel truly sorry for anyone close-minded enough to not appreciate these YOUNG dudes rocking the hell out in an age where it's all auto-tune and rap.

exactly, led zeppelin was based entirely off 30-40s blues (Muddy Waters, Howlin Wolf, LEADBELLY???), and called themselves a blues band until they found their sound as a rock band for gods sake. People saying GVF are bad for sounding like Led know nothing about led zeppelin when they were starting out. People don't give artists time to find their sound in this period of music and expect bands to immediately be original and stand out (which is an absolute pipe dream), and it's why promising bands die out before they can bloom.

I no longer think anyone should say one single word about another band. Greta Van Fleet is THE band that makes this music. And I love the music so very much. They are male and I am female but guess what? I just love their music and like them as decent guys. I know enough about music to appreciate they are so very talented so just let this glorious music wash over you and embrace it - we have a great new band just starting to achieve pure greatness. This music video amplifies the message of the song so much. I like the concept of the chipping away at the statue, which is a symbol for humanity. The video looks like it takes place in a future where “machine” has taken over. I like how you were observing the statue as if you were trying to figure out what it was only to ultimately “destroy” it in pursuit of answers. The irony is that humanity isn’t something that can be excavated, measured, or cultivated in a lab. Humanity is around us and within us. The scary thing is that it is also something that can be lost among us.

Lyrical Breakdown line by line: What the song means to me personally Lyrics courtesy of @chica boogie: Perfect child (Person being born) Plugged in since the womb (Born into a world dominated by technology) Prophet of the dune (and was destined to be shaped by the natural world) In this electric tomb (But not able to because of a tech prison) Man has made (humanity invented-- next line An omnipresent force (the technology around us that we can't escape) Heading on a course (and the future of this reality can be seen if you pay attention) For interstellar shores (Although we know we are headed in a direction, and where we are going, we don't know the implication to us once we get there, but deep down we know potentially they are not good) God machine (Mankind) Malfunctioned as it grew (has lost touch with what is important over time) And the circuits blew (We are becoming overloaded and starting to see we are breaking) Falling down on you (We are about to collapse ......) (NOW WE ARE LOOKING INTO THE FUTURE OF ONCE WE HAVE BROKE FROM OUR TECH CHAINS) Now you're free (We finally reached our breaking point and we are going back to the way we were) Unplug from the source (No longer have our dependence on technology) No more underscores (a little play on words of no more under scores in a literal sense__ while getting the point across of reflecting and asking ourselves "what did tech really bring us as humans?") Open up the doors (once the chains are off we can open the door to the real world and enjoy what we have been missing) Feeling (That feeling that you are not free) Oh god, the feeling (You know its something but can't pinpoint it, only you and your god knows its wrong) We need some healing (We are asking for help to the universe/God) We need some healing (No, we are pleading for it) God knows if you feel defeated (That feeling you have like something is missing, it is not for nothing, listen to your soul telling you something is wrong) You have been cheated (The game was built against you, tech was designed to make you addicted and enslave you) You have retreated (You left what really makes you happy and it is up to you to go back to it and say no to the machines will over you)

Lots of haters saying they sound too much like Zeppelin bother me. If Led Zeppelin ever reformed and put out new album...who wouldn't buy it? Give them a chance. They are are young and talented as hell. Some songs do sound like the mighty Zeppelin, but in my mind that's a good thing

This band is incredible. Jesse Ventura brought me here using Zeppelin analogies. And I see it’s so much more than that. I’m a Blind Melon fan. This takes me to a very special place. Love the guitar.

I saw these guys last night five minutes from my home in Spring Hill Tennessee. Had never really listened to much of them before, but they were absolutely amazing. A true class act. Super professional and spot on. Iron Maiden, Rush, Gojira level performance. 10 out of 10.

This is such a timely song, given the year we have all experienced, and what is to come. Greta Van Fleet put a great deal of thought and time into this masterpiece. I was blown away by how haunting the lyrics were, with the audio version. Once I saw the video, I was in tears. They are making references to so many issues or potential issues. I had to watch a few times to catch them all and there still might be a few I will see later on. I'm an empath, so I really 'feel' the emotion put into this song. I went to bed thinking about the video and dreamed about different parts of it as well as the lyrics that went along with it. Everyone has their own take of what they see here. While we cannot erase history or things we have already done, we can all try to do better going forward. If we don't, we will end up with nothing. Whether it be a statue, an animal, or the environment, we have no right to destroy it. It is important to be mindful that we are ALL hurting in some way, so be kind. These young men are exceptionally talented artists and visionaries. They managed to create a powerful song and pair it with a video that was both sci-fi like and beautiful at the same time. I'm grateful to Greta Van Fleet for giving us good music again, which had been missing for so many years. They have their own sound and perfect it more with each song. They are actually too good for today's music industry. Josh, Jake, Sam and Danny are old souls from another time, but are meant to be here now. Blessings ~

Question, have you been living under a rock? So many people before this band have been trying to get your attention on the same issues. WAKE UP
@tiffanys.1995
@tiffanys.1995 3 жыл бұрын
@@Stiegosaurus I have saved more lives than anyone will ever know. I work 7 days a week, making a difference regarding these issues. I wrote a book over 10 years ago, about these issues. I have an active website and blog (over 13 years old) and have done public speaking and radio shows, about these issues. You are telling me to WAKE UP to issues that I am already well aware of and have asked people for some time, to please be mindful of. That is preaching to the choir. Have YOU been living under a rock? I simply gave a positive comment on a band whose music and lyrics I truly enjoy. Esp. given their age and passion about various issues. I even wrote a blog about GVF over a year ago (also on the site) because I could see they were out to save a dying music industry and spread some positivity along the way. They are so far ahead of their time. As many people in their age range are not as focused on what is happening in the world. Maybe they will inspire others to get involved and to care more? They choose to address current issues through their music. Just like I choose to address issues in my own way. If everyone made this kind of effort, we could all move mountains. So, I would say to take your own advice about waking up and have a Merry Christmas.

Everyone hating on them: People who hate on GVF for lack of originality clearly aren’t musicians. Any musician would understand that literally ANY group / artist takes influence from others. Yes, even zeppelin. Taking away from the incredible skill of these musicians because they sound similar to zeppelin is just plain stupid. In fact, in music, something like this is flattering to zeppelin. Believe it or not Robert plant enjoys GVFs vocals, and jimmy page likes GVFs guitar.

@@stephenmelton7706 I’m 15 and I knew that and to be honest I think Robert Jimmy and John are all happy for there sound to be emulated into new music as it’s clearly over saturated with hip hop and rap u think it’s fantastic that rock n roll is back even if it sounds like the legends of before it’s still brilliant music so I think the haters should grow up and respect great musicianship and understand that they are happy they aren’t hurting anyone and they are writing original music. Anyways it’s all love from me they have slowly became a favourite of mine

Just got back from seeing them in El Paso. My wife is a die hard fan, and I gotta admit she's absolutely right about how good they are. We listened to them on the drive back, and this song played while we drove through the mountains of New Mexico. It was very badass, with the music and the visuals all together.

The camera work and the imagery here are so haunting and heavy-handed--and they progress so slowly that the existential dread builds at a pace you don't notice until it's ready to burst. Perfect fit for the heavy vibes of this song. 5 stars.

it's kinda poetic people criticizing them for sounding like other bands in a day and age where all the genres are saturated with the same sound but notice the content of their lyrics... you don't hear this stuff in rap, country, hip hop, or even the rock that's coming out they are addressing the real world issues and human experience the youth are suffering with and consoling us that they too feel what we are feeling...I can't relate with any of the music that's coming out these days but this here is absolute treasure for the free thinkers and peacekeepers who still stand as the last bastion of hope in such a corrupt and hateful world. it's deeper than just the sound of the voice and instruments and that's where you find the real art.
